Avatar Trailer
http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avatar/hd/
I don't think the regular trailer links are working yet. Pretty funny on the IMDb board for this movie. Apple's trailer site had a countdown and then none of the links worked. People were flipping out. Anywhoo, think Mr. Cameron went a bit CGI crazy. Even for simple shots of humans he uses CGI instead...and pretty noticeable which is which. Hyped it up too much with the photorealism talk of his. Looks pretty though. The cat people look too human (proportion and feature wise) that they might as well just went for makeup and just used CGI for the tales. Furries are gonna love it. Back to the IMDb board. Anarchy there. So much hate. So much fun. |

Heh. I prefer those gifs to the trailer. Looks cool like that.

Re: Avatar Trailer
HD can really betray CGI. I can't watch Transformers in HD because it doesn't even look like the live action and CGI characters are in the same movie.

Re: Avatar Trailer
So thus far opinions have been across the board.
From people not knowing this isn't related to the cartoon, to people expressing the overuse of CG to people who will gladly have James Cameron's (most likely CG) babies. I don't know, the movie is supposed to be entirely in 3D so maybe some of that was lost in the trailer. |
Re: Avatar Trailer
I was disappointed when I saw it. Not sure why... overhyped?

Re: Avatar Trailer
Blue creatures being hunted by men in machines... could be coincidence, could have inspired Cameroni.
Edit: This part looks SO fake and ugly: ![]() |
Re: Avatar Trailer
Looks like an awesome sci-fi action movie. :)

Re: Avatar Trailer
Thanks. I tried posting at the Avatar forum on IMDb but there were new threads every couple seconds and quickly got buried. Posted it at the only other forum I belong to and I was told I raped this guys childhood and psychologically scarred him for life. That made my day.
But then today I found out there's real smurf porn. People dressed like them and painted blue all over....everything is blue. That's going to haunt me...especially after Papa Smurf showed up. :( |

Looks much nicer. It's growing on me. |
Re: Avatar Trailer
Myeah I guess I'll go into an Avatar silence now... just not to get my hopes up, and to prevent spoilers. I'll give it a watch, but not in the opening week.

Avatar Trailer
August 21st will be "Avatar day", which means that Fox the distributor of the movie will show for free 15 minutes of the movie in as many I-max theaters as possible, all around the world.
I think the trailer will also show up on internet after that day. |
Re: Avatar Trailer
August 21, thanks for the timely heads-up!

Re: Avatar Trailer
A few weeks ago a friend and I went to the theaters. We saw the trailer for Avatar.
Now my friend later says to me: 'That was weird, it started with live action, and then it turned into computer-animation.' Which made me realize how bad the CGI graphics are. Another realization came when I saw Star Wars: Episode 1. The CGI-created creatures look so real that you don't notice it's CGI. Even in Jurassic Park you didn't notice it. Those movies are 10 and 16 years old. HOW IN THE WORLD can Avatar look worse than those??? Somebody please explain. (I have my own explanation: they purposely made the trailer look bad. Now when the movie launches, it will look much better. People will be so excited about how good it looks... forgetting that it looks the same as technology from 10 years ago.) |
Re: Avatar Trailer
Original JP didn't use much CGI. It was all animatronic (sp?). JP2 I think mixed both, and JP3 was all CGI (correct if wrong). CGI still has a ways to go to reach the point that it's hard to see a difference.

All JPs use both animatronics and CGI. Animatronics usually for close-ups, CGI for the rest. So even in the first JP it was mostly computer graphics, maybe 80%? Doesn't change my point anway... there are CGI movies that look way better than the incredibly hyped Avatar. |

Re: Avatar Trailer
I think I'll stay spoiler-free from this point on. (The point before the trailer.)
Also, I think it will disappoint, so I'm not getting my hopes up. |
Re: Avatar Trailer
Still haven't seen the movie...but apparently a number of folks who did saw my Smurf pic from back in August:
