Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
IGN has walk through videos of the demo.
|
Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
Very interested. I just recently played through Homecoming and very much enjoyed it.

Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
Does anyone else hate the IGN video player?
|
Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
Yeah I do.
Oh that one. Hm I've gotten used to it. I hated their Eł player a lot more. It always starts with a highly annoying (and loud) ad for Red Faction. And it completely freezes all FireFox windows for 10 seconds or so. |

IGN video would be better even if they slummed it over at YouTube exclusively. Hell, IGN video would be better off if they just had no videos at all and instead had all of their video links simply pointed to this gif ![]() In short, IGN video sucks. |
Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
Wow, the game looks good. I can't wait to see more.

Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
This is the worst idea for a Silent Hill game ever.
You get no weapon at all, so you know full-well going into it, that you have to run from every enemy. All the time. You run. You can't kill them, so you know all you can do when you see one is run. The problem I have with that, is the good thing about a normal, or real Silent Hill game is ammo management. Running out of ammo, reloading clips, changing weapons is part of the game that adds to the scary factor. When you have to conserve ammo, you get really on-edge, but when every scary leap, or high pitched squeal comes a button mash fest of running away, I don't see how that's exciting. It's predictable. You run. If I wanted a predictable dialogue-based game where there was no resolvable action via gun, I would just play Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. |

Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
I haven't played the game nor am I a big Silent Hill fan, but I will say this game has piqued my interest because of the no fighting concept.
I think at its basis, you are looking at it from a very basic understanding. I see a game where the developer has the option to create some very high tension situation using setpieces and enemies. And while there is no combat, you aren't completely helpless, you can't kill them but you can toss them if they jump on you, and use your environment such as the flare in the video to hold them at bay until it goes out. Also from what I read, there will be boss encounters in which you have to manipulate the environment to your advantage to get away. Maybe pushing a dresser in front of a door, sliding underneath a fence or something. And it really comes down to how well designed the game is around the concept of fight or fright. |
Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
I just don't like the transition of Silent Hill from a Zombie-Shooting-Horror game to a Zombie-Tactically Flee - Puzzle game.

The emphasis has never been on shooting anything. Especially not zombies because there have never been any. Tactical fleeing however has always been a part of the game. Like BLueFire said, it's about atmosphere and the scares have never been about holy shit a monster is coming but rather about build-up of suspense and psychological scares. Monster never run at you in past games. They kind of come at you at a ginger pace, taking their sweet time. I'm hoping this game maintains that and knowing that they could burst into full speed at any time would be somewhat harrowing. |

You're a smart lad, child. I would have assumed you know what I meant with my generic "Zombie" term. Okay, fine - just for you. I am not a fan of the running away from spirits/apparitions and the like. You know full-well I've played a Silent Hill game. We played through Silent Hill 2 together, so I'd really hope I'd at least played through one of them. Tactical fleeing has always been part, you're right. But tactical fleeing when you're out of ammo/don't have enough/the right type, you flee. Not an "Oh shit, let's flee again" type of thing. Apparently people can't let someones opinion go. I don't like the idea of the game, because it's not for me. If it's your type of game, sweet - play it. You won't change my opinion. |
Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
So you just assume that they're doing it wrong in this game?
To conclude in a similar way, if you want to shoot zombies, don't play it. |

Yes, that's exactly what I was getting at. I won't play this game. Next time any of you have a personal opinion, remind me to drag it on for a long time and make it seemingly unneeded. I don't have any desire to play this game. Deal with that. Why is it so hard to imagine someone not liking a game for a reason? |
Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
Why can't you just play the games we want you to play? Why do you always have to be so childish about it?
Bah. |

Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
Hm we already knew all that stuff.
The chases look tense, but when the monsters jump on your back, it's always the same. You shake them off and continue to run... Which makes me fear that the gameplay will suck at times. We'll see. |

Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
Previously in the Silent Hill series, instead of repetitively running away from everything, you repetitively pressed the aim button and fired until the monster dropped, at which point in time you walked over and stomped on it.
Also, I haven't been keeping up with all the vids, but I only remember seeing a single type of monster... You could apply the "you shake them off and continue to run" comment to pretty much any other monster in the Silent Hill series... Except you may (sometimes) substitute repetitively running away with repetitively pressing the aim button and firing until the monster drops, at which point in time you walk over and stomp on it. Repetitively. |
Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
I know it's probably better than combat in the other SHs. I'm just not sure it will be thrilling throughout the whole game.
But we'll see. :) |

Are there other creatures in this game besides the gray children? o_O

Cuz Silent Hill is crap but people will still buy it no matter what.

Re: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
I actually love the silent hill series, I have played like almost every game. I mean sure if your looking for nonstop shooting action dont play them, but if you want a deep involving story and some really scary parts, you will enjoy it. Im going to rent this one eventually.
