Heavy Rain

This is one of those games that looks outside the box, but not sure how feel about it. Since it is heavily dominated by QTE, which I loathe.

A majority quick time event-game would be interesting. It would mean you can't just laze around, and you always have to be on the ball.

Wow, this game looks like a blast! Will keep in an eye out for this one

Re: Heavy Rain

Gonna bump this instead of starting a new thread, but just tried out the demo and gonna have to say I liked it more than I thought.

It isn't your normal video game that much is for sure, but it just feels so right at times.

One of the key things is during crucial scenes (like the solo fight in the demo), you can't fail QTE, where most games would have you replay the section Heavy Rain simply has you continuing so like in the fight, I ended up having to defend a lot more often since would fail an occasional event, but would be back on the offensive after one or two events.

Also the whole crime investigation stuff is kind of cool, even if it pretty much is just you scanning an area and your character deciphering it all.

That's so adorable, thinking that you are equal to me. :lolz:

No the demo isn't due to come out until next Thursday, I just got a hookup from another forum.

You're breakin' my balls, BaB, breakin' my balls.

Just wanted to make sure you saw this somewhere, but I sent you the information on Facebook like 2 days ago, and haven't heard back so just wanted to make sure go to you. :lolz:

Played the demo, and yes, this game kept me engaged the whole way through.

It was hard to keep track of all the facts flying around though, so I'm interested in seeing how vital it will be for players to put together these pieces themselves.

Wait, this is a GAME? We watched the trailer in my AI class this summer. Thought it was just another tech demo.

This is one of the few games that interest me on the PS3.

Yes I got it, thank you! Sorry, I usually go MIA for the most part on weekends. I haven't been able to login and get the demo yet, hopefully I didn't waste it by missing a time limit.

Is this game similar to Shenmue? I kinda get that vibe. Can anyone tell me?

Angrist 02-09-2010 06:33 AM

Re: Heavy Rain

Yeah it's the same as Shenmue. Except that it's totally different.
Hope it helped. :)

It does, I suppose. What Shenmue did was try to mix a lot of things to create a very realistic world that helped story telling. But since there are so many elements in the mix the developers can create very different experiences in that "genre."From what I saw in the IGN video review, it's pretty much a progression of what shenmue was doing with the series.

Ok, you went to see a review. Then I guess my comment did help. ;)

For Blix and Acebot,

The game looks really good still can't justify 60 bucks on it though.

Im contemplating getting this or Bioshock 2. Cant decide.

Re: Heavy Rain

So picked this game up for 20 bucks at Sam's Club. Think the price just dropped that low recently, cause I was at Sam's last week and pretty sure they still had it listed at 58.

Anyway. Must say it's unlike anything I've played before.

A tad predictable probably in terms of how the story is playing out, but also realize a lot of the story is crafted by my actions and stuff.

I dunno how to describe it, but the game gives me weird vibes.

I just bought this game yesterday will play it maybe next week, but I have heard a lot of good things about it. It's supposed to be a really depressing game, you're suppose to feel what the characters are feeling. It's like a depressing novel

Now that it's $20 I'm gonna grab it too lol

Re: Heavy Rain

I'd buy it if I hadn't already played it. I'm getting fickle in purchasing one-playthrough games.

Yeah it's unfortunate because they're usually good but I just can't justify 60 dollars on a 7 hour game with little replay value.

So I've been waiting until they drop price like a good boy.

Re: Heavy Rain

The previews make it sound like it's more then one playthrough, and make it sound like your decisions can impact how the story ends. Is this not true?

TheSlyMoogle 08-10-2010 03:46 AM

Re: Heavy Rain

Yup you can fully change how the game ends by how you play. However I got what is considered the true ending or the best ending on the first play. Also no matter what happens certain facts never change or contradict. Aka the oragami killer never changes or is someone different. Think of it as the many worlds theory in which the choices you make can go a or b and you just get to see both.

When are they porting this to the Wii? ;)

I just got through playing this over a period of a 5 day rental. I have to admit, I like it, I liked it a lot. the real question though, did you guys go all the way with Madison?

Fuckin yeah I did.

The Real Question: Did you manage to save everyone?

Jason1 08-28-2010 07:04 PM

Re: Heavy Rain

I managed to save the main 4, the only person I did not save was Scott's sidekick, the prostitute girl.

My brother is playing through it right now, and its really interesting to see the differences when you do something different or dont accomplish something. For instance, when Madison and Ethan are escaping the apartment where you cut your finger off, you have to cross the street to the subway. I accomplished this feat, while my brother did not, and he had a rather lengthy sequence of Ethan getting caught by the police and interrogated, and eventually getting freed by the FBI guy. I did not have this sequence at all during my playthrough.

This really keeps sounding like a game I'd really like. But I'm not going to get a PS3 for it.

Well the best part is you can pick and choose scenarios to go back and replay through them instead of playing the whole game over.
