Re: NHL Playoffs

I'm a Flyers fan. Currently, they're playing the Rangers in their last game of the regular season, winning 3-2, and if they get at least 1 point, they secure the 4th spot in the Eastern Conference. They're playing the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round, which will be a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Finals.

I am actually currently in Pittsburgh because I go to school there, so I'm sick of hearing about the Penguins. I'm glad that I'll be home for the semi finals and finals of the Stanely Cup Playoffs.

If the Flyers fail, then I think I'd like to see the Blackhawks do well.

AHHHHHHHHHH STUPID PHILADELPHIA SPORTS TEAMS ALWAYS SCREWING AROUND.......

Flyers fan here as well. I can't believe we blew that last period and now have to go on the road. Ah well. This should be a hell of a series and I think the Flyers match up okay with the Pens. The series was 2-2-2 this year which is pretty much as even as it gets obviously. I really don't know who will win. The Flyers haven't played their best recently.

You bet. It's the best sport around.

Baseball - slow and boring.

Football - brutish and homoerotic.

Basketball - tedious and repetitive.

But hockey! That's a true gentleman's game.

How is the NHL not brutish and homoerotic?

Well it's brutish but the players don't tend to tackle, grapple, and grope each other as much.

I was just giving you a hard time! I like hockey, I'm just mad there isn't a team nearby.

Why then cheer for the Canucks, my good friend!

They have it all: grit, heart, determination, Swedish twins, solid goaltending, and a dream to win their first cup in franchise history.

I kinda laugh at this though. I love hockey, but most of the fights do involve a ton of tackling, grappling, and groping.

Yes but that's fights which only happen every so often. The very sport of football is built around this homoerotic behaviour.

It exists in its core.

God damnit I'm so happy that we're playing St.Louis.

Dylan...the real question is now on Wednesday, what do we do about Hockey/Lost?

Canucks are on at 7. Lost is on at 9.

We watch hockey, then we go on the A channel website and stream Lost the next day.

You can't see a black puck on a white surface?

Get HD.

It's honestly a million times better in HD. By far the best sport to watch in HD, and the most useful.

Objective odds of Canucks defeating the Blues?

Re: NHL Playoffs

If Luongo plays as well as he did in the playoffs two years ago, I'd say the Canucks have a really good shot. There's a lot of hungry players on our team.

Considering Luongo is arguably the best Goaltender in the entire league, let alone the world at the moment, I'd say the Canucks have a very, very good shot.

Granted goaltending doesn't always come through, but I would say talent-wise, the Canucks have a more solid lineup than the Blues.

I'm just glad we didn't get matched up with the Hawks.

The Germanator 04-13-2009 04:11 PM

Re: NHL Playoffs

If only Fox still had NHL coverage and we still had the dang glowing hockey puck!

I don't have HD but can still enjoy watching the game on TV. You certainly lose the puck every once in a while, but so do the players at times, so you can't really complain.

Dylflon 04-13-2009 04:16 PM

Re: NHL Playoffs

I don't know what it is with you Yanks!

For some reason I've never had a problem following the puck.

Maybe our Canadian eyes have evolved to do this?

Re: NHL Playoffs

I really hope that the Flyers crush the Penguins. Penguins fans were no where to be seen before Crosby came around, they're such a bandwagon team.

Should we make picks like we do with the NFL playoffs?

I watched this youtube video yesterday where Rutuu picked a fight with Phaneuf and Phaneuf goes to throw down and then slips and wipes out so hard.

I need a gif of it.

I can get it for you.
Phaneuf doesn't slip, Jaarko puts his stick between his legs and pulls one of his feet out.

Give me a minute.

Also, if you can find a gif of Hordichuk body checking Marty Turco, that would be amazing as well.

Re: NHL Playoffs

The one lame thing about the playoffs is that rink side seats cost $300 in Vancouver.

Hockey has been turned into a rich man's game here. I was watching this thing yesterday where they said you could fly two people to St Louis, pay for a hotel for the night, and go to the game, and it would be $12 cheaper than for two people to see the game in Vancouver.

Sean, if we play someone within bussing distance these playoffs, we're going to a game.

Typhoid 04-14-2009 03:49 PM

Re: NHL Playoffs

The only teams realistically in bussing distance would be Calgary - or for a longer busride Chicago/Detroit - and Calgary wouldn't be cheap - and I definitely wouldn't want to roll up to the Saddledome in the playoffs in a Canucks jersey.

Cheap seats at Canucks games (second bowl) aren't too expensive. For regular season games, depending on the team they're roughly 60-80. They're not too much more than that for playoffs.

Edit: I just checked Ticketmaster for seats tomorrow and Friday (out of curiosity) the cheapest seats are balcony seats roughly around 100 dollars. However, they are both sold out.

Haha, there's no logical sense that you're rooting for them seeing as Vancouver is so far away from you, but I guess that there's a lot of influence for them on the forum. They would be one of those teams that I wouldn't mind at all seeing win a Stanley Cup, they are from a hockey town, and country, afterall, not like the Tampa Bay Lightning or the Carolina Hurricanes....

2-1 Canucks second intermission.
