Things you wish you were good at but totally suck at.

As title implies, what are some things you wish you were good at but you totally suck at?

For me....basketball, cooking, math and physics.

I guess music. I wish I could play piano and guitar.

Skateboarding too. You should see me stand on one. Looks like I'm balancing on a tightrope.

Keyboard. I love keyboards and pianos and all that stuff but I cannot teach it to myself at all.
Also shooting games.

Everything I do. I like to try out a lot of different stuff, but I never have the patience to hone my skills. It's like I'm mediocre at whatever I do :)

Math, definitely - that's going to be one hurdle in my career for sure.

Organization. I'm creative but my lack of organization limits my productivity.

But that's because I am not practicing enough

Quitting...

I so should have been rid of this job months ago.

Not to be arrogant, but I'm pretty much good at the things I wished I was.

So we are gonna put you down for being humble. :p

I'll agree to that.

Actually one thing I'd want to be better at: I'm pretty bad at fighting/FPS video games, just through a sheer lack of un-caring most of the time.

Hmm, small talk is a good one...I'm not good at that and general conversation. Especially around new people I don't know all that well, both dudes and ladies (maybe especially ladies)

Let's see...cooking too. Math is a bummer as well.

I want to be better at using excel and coding. I don't necessarily suck it either, just haven't had much practice. Shouldn't be too hard to pick up.

Same with instruments. I fiddled with a guitar for a week or so and picked it up quickly until I injured my hand doing handstands and then couldn't find the time anymore after that.

I don't think anyone really sucks at anything. We all have the potential to decent with a bit of practice.

I wish I could swim better than I can, it would give me a good way to cross train for cycling.

I also wish I could play guitar or bass, maybe I'll learn soon.

Writing, studying, being opinionated or not being apathetic.

I used to read really slowly as a kid, so that was one that I wished I could do better, but I actually fixed that one.

I wish I was more self motivated and could manage my time a little better. I can't motivate myself to do anything and I am constantly wasting my time. Thinking about it pisses me off. Anyway, I know I will be here tomorrow reading this thread so I might as well ask.

Can anyone suggest a way to help me manage my time better and to motivate me?

Write stuff down. Make a journal. And find something you have interest in. Find a novel to read, start a blog, pick up an instrument, etc. Record progress, and stay on top of it.

A lot of it is really just finding something that genuinely interests you.

You do IT right? I did IT for a while...nothing like a job where you get to sit around and think about stuff for 8 hours a day.

Oh...and I wish I could sing. I cannot sing to save my life, which is too bad because I love music.

Wait, you think blogging is GOOD for time management?

I agree with writing stuff down. Make a list of things you want to do. If it's always the same things that you're pushing to your next list, you know you need to put a deadline for it.
Like I always had to make an appointment with some student counsellor. I never got around to it. Now I'll probably miss out on €500 or more because of that. :(

That sounds familiar. I often start something, but I never finish it. For example, I can draw (sketch) pretty well, but I quit that years ago. People tell me I can write nice stories, so I've been wanting to write more. I rarely take the time. Learning to play guitar is going slower than I want.
I'm quite decent at games like SSBB and Perfect Dark. Just not hardcore enough to be among the elite (to be honest, I don't want to).

The thing I want to be better at most is self-control. I'm often a bit lazy. It's getting better though.

Yep, now that sounds familiar to me. And I, too, think it's getting much better.

I'd also want to be bit more self-confident. I usually find that I know the answers my mentors ask during rounds, but never have the confidence to answer. Then when someone else says it, I'm always like "damn, just blurt it out for once!"

And this. I just sit and look around when I'm sitting with a person I just met. And that's always a very stupid thing. But if there's somebody else and we're talking, I talk just fine, and am pretty good at being fun.

And I'd really like to cook. I don't know anything about it. I can just re-heat :D

Make yourself exercise. First thing in the morning after you get some water in ya...go exercise. minimum 15-20 minutes of intense cardio. This will wake you up to the things that need to be done. Time management is easier if your endorphines are firing.

I'm not good at singing or music in general. I guess i have a knack for rhythm but I'd like to be better on my guitars. I'm disorganized, so I wish that wasn't so.

Drawing. I feel so stupid for being bad at it. So many years of practice with no results.

And algebra. I am horrible at algebra, which is fairly pathetic since I'm close to finishing my math minor.

If I ever come to Canada I will so teach you how to play fighting games. Lol.

I will say money and time management. Like right now, I should be in bed, but I'm spending my time on GT instead.
