How is everyone doing?

This is, of course, traditionally the time of year in which GameTavern is very slow due to school, work, and such. Just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing with this and that?

I think most people here pretty much know I hate my current job, which in turn makes me a more negative person.

As a few know, also working on going back to school next year and hopefully complete this long journey.

You should audition for Fallout 4.

Very full from Thanksgiving.

Gonna try to nab a new cell phone tomorrow in honor of Black Friday.

Yep, I'm a souless, materialistic, consumer-whore.

I'm working on an essay at the moment. As soon as I finish it, I'm writing my MSc thesis proposal, which is due on December 11.

It's just that I'm a bit illish today. Two nights ago I suddenly got very nautious, it was scary. Lying down only made it worse, as if I was in a carousel which kept going harder and harder.
I e-mailed my physician about it, waiting for a reply.

Just finished a comic to be published in February. Working on another now which might be downloadable on iPhone. If I have time will do another for the first comic collection for February.

Going to school for what?

Anyways, next week I got 4 more assignments due, two math tests, and then we have a presentation and turn-in on the first playable builds of our games. Then it's finals week, and this semester finally will end.

I have medical problems and can't have a job because of it, but life is fantastic.

Whats wrong?

I'm hoping to grab a blackberry today, then buckling down and getting ready for finals, plus two papers due tuesday.

A few weeks ago I decided to pick up an African American Studies minor along with my History Major, so thats what next quarter has in store, plus a Entertainment Business class that I'm TA'ing for with Peter Guber as the lecturer. It's lining up to be amazing (Chad Hurley and Will Wright are both set to be guest lecturers).

Also, I woke up this morning feeling a slightly bit tristful. It's always around this time of year that I feel like I want a girlfriend, then I end up getting one and break up with them within a month or two...But I don't wanna mess around anymore!...ah well

I am pretty busy with school, I have one more week then finals week and the semester is over so thats a good feeling. I have an interview for an internship on wednesday, its for a job in the box office of the Peoria Chiefs, which is a minor league Cubs affiliate. Shame, they used to be a minor league Cardinals affiliate.

About time.

I have been working early mornings Monday through Fridays, climbing Saturday Sundays. Going for my license in about 2 weeks. Hoping I get into the school in January though I doubt a spot will open up.

Um......hmmm

Masters in School Psych.
really want to mess with the kids' head when it counts. ;)

And today is just one of those days, my body can no longer go on. Physically exhausted. Worked 6 days this week. Including a holiday. Spent 2 days in the hospital with my residents. Working on 3 hours of sleep for the past 3 days due to work schedule.

Yeah, think gonna go home and just pass out.

I've been more or less on tour since mid-September with only a few days back at home. We go back out through the North East/ New England from December 3rd - 13th hitting some smaller cities. After that I'm home for Christmas and New Years with not much to do in January. I'd like to pick up a part-time job or something, but I'm not sure what I could find for just a 1.5 months.

I know that feeling. But I decided to stay single for at least 6 months, concentrate on my own life for a while. Finish my study, find a job, etc.

Of course it helps that no (worthy) girls are interested in me. :D

Super. Finally graduating in spring. Done done and done.

Contract is ending at Propaganda soon, on December 19th. I've learnt a metric fuckton of game programming. I'm really happy I landed this Coop. I'm a lot more confident in my abilities now. I've thought tandemly about working while at school. I've sent my application off to Rockstar but I haven't sent to anyone else. Propaganda straight up told me they had to put a hold on hiring because of the whole economical bullshit thing. I'm willing to bet every other studio is like that right now. Oh well! Maybe if I put effort into school next semester I'll enjoy it. >_>

Hey, I wouldn't have mind your TG break.
You got to see Boston, Philly and New York in a short time.

And you got to meet new people.

well it's just typical stuff, which most of you wouldnt find worthy getting upset over; problems with a certain girl, my friends, family; but mostly that girl.

it's stupid, but i'm surprisingly new to a lot of stuff, so it's hitting me hard.

DarrenMcLeod 12-03-2008 01:34 AM

Re: How is everyone doing?

ah, don't worry about it, bud. it's not stupid... it affects us all. it hits us all at some point or another. but as it turns out, all the cliches are true: there are lots of girls out there, the things that seem important now are completely forgotten in a couple of years, etc.

but i realize that you've heard those things a million times and they don't mean much right now, so what I will say is that no matter what happens, just be honest about the whole thing, don't overthink it, and have fun with it all. if you're not enjoying it, then why bother with it?

and if you need any advice or need to talk to anyone, i'm pretty sure BreakABone is the ladies man around here. Right?

"One day Solomon decided to humble Benaiah Ben Yehoyada, his most trusted minister. He said to him, "Benaiah, there is a certain ring that I want you to bring to me. I wish to wear it for Sukkot which gives you six months to find it." "If it exists anywhere on earth, your majesty," replied Benaiah, "I will find it and bring it to you, but what makes the ring so special?" "It has magic powers," answered the king. "If a happy man looks at it, he becomes sad, and if a sad man looks at it, he becomes happy." Solomon knew that no such ring existed in the world, but he wished to give his minister a little taste of humility. Spring passed and then summer, and still Benaiah had no idea where he could find the ring. On the night before Sukkot, he decided to take a walk in one of the poorest quarters of Jerusalem. He passed by a merchant who had begun to set out the day's wares on a shabby carpet. "Have you by any chance heard of a magic ring that makes the happy wearer forget his joy and the broken-hearted wearer forget his sorrows?" asked Benaiah. He watched the grandfather take a plain gold ring from his carpet and engrave something on it. When Benaiah read the words on the ring, his face broke out in a wide smile. That night the entire city welcomed in the holiday of Sukkot with great festivity. "Well, my friend," said Solomon, "have you found what I sent you after?" All the ministers laughed and Solomon himself smiled. To everyone's surprise, Benaiah held up a small gold ring and declared, "Here it is, your majesty!" As soon as Solomon read the inscription, the smile vanished from his face. The jeweler had written three Hebrew letters on the gold band: _gimel, zayin, yud_, which began the words "_Gam zeh ya'avor_" -- "This too shall pass." At that moment Solomon realized that all his wisdom and fabulous wealth and tremendous power were but fleeting things, for one day he would be nothing but dust."

Quick observation: Final Exams are the only thing that make me nervous. How can professors get away with having 80% of your 10 week course depend on 1 test?

American education system sucks and is deeply flawed and broken?

I wish my parents had home-schooled me.

Then I could be quirky and introspective like DeathsHand.

Because passing the class means you should understand a majority of the material that was taught to you. If at a moment's notice you can't stop what you're doing and pass a test, I'd say you don't really know the material that well.

I don't like that idea one bit, but it makes sense.
