The Dark Knight Thread

Yeah there has been a few threads, sure more than enough started by me. But with the movie a little more than a week away and some reviews coming in. I figured we could have an all TDK thread where you ccan discuss latest reviews or nerddom (mostly me I assume)

Like last night as part of the ever growing viral campaign, I went to the City and saw the Batsignal cast upon a building. Where it became a part of the NYC Skyline for the night.

Also reviews have been pouring in. And you can keep an eye on the Rotten meter.
Rotten Meter: TDK
Currently at 100% with 10 reviews in.
Lots of rave reviews comparing it to Godfather II, Heat, Empire Strikes Back.

The score is available online but officially out next week.
At last check, there are 15 commercials something like 5 trailers, the prologue and more on the web. All in all,, about 30 mins of the movie is viewable online. At this point, I would suggest avoiding.

Watched the animated Gotham Knight last night. Pretty darn good, I'd love to see another Batman animated series start up with a darker style similar to these short films. Though I am quite disappointed at the lack of behind the scenes material, as the main reason I buy animated films on DVD is to check out each company's different approach to story, animation, etc.

But anyway, got my midnight tickets for the IMAX showing in downtown Ottawa next thursday. And an appropriate Joker-ized desktop, of course.

The animated films are on my Netflix queue, and I will probably go to the theater to see the movie. Batman and Joker have always been one of (if not the) my favorite Hero/Villain pair, so I am really psyched.

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

I am EXCITED to say the least. I went from being lukewarm to ecstatic after watching that trailer where they show the joker and his henchmen robbing the bank. The film is going to be so dark and gritty. And all the reviews have said that the film has tons of depth and a dark undertone. I'm expecting a film much better than Batman Begins. I've already discussed how I enjoyed Batman Begins, but thought it wasn't a perfect film. Rarely is a sequel better than the original, but much like Spiderman and X-Men, I anticipate that this sequel will blow the first film out of the water. Plus, The Joker is simply one of the most fantastic villains.

Yes...I am officially lost in the hype for this film. And yes, I have officially raised the bar and my expectations. But based on the previews and the reviews, I expect the film to meet and surpass my expectations.

Spoiler:

BreakABone downloaded the official soundtrack! The music definitely reveals some stuff that hasn't been released in the trailers. Again, if you don't want the ending for the movie ruined, DO NOT listen to the soundtrack!

Oh I know. I'm trying to keep this thread informative. I couldn't believe it wasn't in the original post!

Release date is Friday July 18. Midnight showings on Thursday (technically Friday).

That's too far away! But it gives me more time to watch Batman Begins :)

I saw the trailer before Hancock last night, and..well..it's got the Batman atmosphere spot on. I think I've become a big Batman fan.

I'm officially stoked for this film.

De Niro (The Joker) plays a professional robber who is a calm (crazy) and methodical introvert, while Pacino (Batman) plays a veteran LAPD homicide detective (hero) whose devotion to his job (being Batman) causes him to neglect his personal problems.

This movie (while I stoppd posting them after a while) had an awesome if not long viral campaign.

Which culminated in the giving away of free tickets to see it in iMax all over the country (and even parts of Canada)

There is also a cool news segment, which for anyone who saw the prologue would get a kick out of the most recent one.

Bigger screen.
Better image quality.
Sound.

In the case of this movie about 20-30 mins that were filmed with imax cameras so will look their best in the imax format.

You will go see in theaters.
Even if Wen and I have to drag you to a midnight show after the concert.:p

Maybe I'm just spoiled. At the theatre I used to work at we had a screen that was 70'x30'. That's not as tall as an IMAX, but its as wide as some, and you don't have to suffer through the black bars or edited down movies or anything.

And now I work at a theatre that's all digital, which is better no matter how big your screen is, so...

IMAX is wasted on me...

Nah, you're wrong there. You get way more detail out of 70 mm film than you will from digital movies for at least the next decade or two.

But most movies that run on imax in regular old movie theaters aren't using 70 mm so the point for the most part is moot. But for a movie like Batman, much of it filmed on 70 mm? Oh buddy I can't wait.

Holy shit Batman, holy effin shit. I just got back from a advanced screening. I dont even know who I am anymore, except that I'm nothing compared to this movie, and never will be. I can't even watch another movie now because I know it won't be as good as this one. I've got tickets for the IMAX showing this weekend that I bought weeks in advance and I absolutely cannot wait to see it again. I'm actually more excited to go see it again than I was before seeing it for the first time.

Anyways, yeah, guess I hyped it up a bit...go see it

I just got back from an advance screening as well. In Imax.

The movie is awesome. even with my level of hype and everything I knew they still managed to surprise me.

And they broke a rule of comic book movies which was nice.

And you have to see the Joker's magic trick. :lolz:

I've seen movies in IMAX and it was nothing special, at least compared to what I've seen. If you're used to smaller "regular" theatres and the projectionists aren't very good, I'm sure IMAX is amazing. But when you've been able to go to something like the Cine Capri and digital, its not that great.

There's a difference in seeing a movie in imax and seeing a movie filmed for imax.

Its like saying you watch DVDs on an HDTV so you don't need Bluray.

Even though it is a few shots you can TELL the difference. Trust me.
And here is a more visual comparison.

So its just....taller.... Maybe if I have the opportunity I'll check out TDK in IMAX (any excuse to see it again!). But it seems to me like a) its a load of nothing and b) the only something is just to reverse the industry standard and call it better (taller rather than wider).

Oh, and The Dark Knight is flippin' sweet.

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

My mind has indeed been blown. :)

The experience was very surreal. It was like I wasn't even there for the 2.5 hours it ran, instead I was somewhere in Gotham.

Any ideas for who will be the villain in the next movie? The Joker isn't dead, but I doubt they will have someone else reprise the role. Two-Face is seemingly dead, I'm not sure how he could not be, with his body there and all. But then again everyone thought Gordon was dead.

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

The movie is even better the second time around (just because I saw for free doesn't mean not gonna use ticket paid for)

And I don't know, it feels like more than just another comic book movie. It is so solid.

Actually most of his parts were creepy in a weird way.

The part where Batman drops Sal also makes me cringe

I actually think I'll enjoy it more the second time around as well. Not that I didn't love it the first time, but it's greatness hasn't fully sank in yet.

What is the "Look at Me" part you're talking about? I can't remember off hand the scene you're referring to.

During the video that the Joker was filming, the one that appeared on the TV news, he was all normal Joker voice taking to that Batman copy cat, until the guy wouldn't look into the camera. Out of frustation Joker says "Look at me....LOOK AT ME" in a terribly dark voice. After that scene I was waiting for him to talk like that again later in the film, and he got close to it a few times but never quite as frightening.

Maybe we should start up a spoiler thread or something?
