Megaman 9
Sometimes, the best way to move forward is to move back? I don't know. I can't come up with expression.

Re: Megaman 9
So I guess these old games are suddenly popular again now that we have to pay for them? Or did I miss an article that said this was going to be free, cause that would be swell.

This is a WiiWare title so I am hoping no more than 10 bucks. It should be 5 like all the other NES games. Speaking of Virtual Console, Nintendo needs to start offering discounts. I mean some of those games have been on for over 18 months already. A VC PC line. |

Re: Megaman 9
As I've said before, they could have kept this 2D but they didn't have to give it NES graphics... what audience are they trying to appeal to anyways?
|
Re: Megaman 9
So, is this a new game designed using NES graphics? That's interesting, to say the least. I guess it will appeal to older gamers who want the nostalgia.
$10 isn't bad though, especially for something that's new, and not a remake. You can't just give out new games for free, businesses have to respect their investors. |
Re: Megaman 9
I think you guys missed the sarcasm in my response. The underlying context goes something along the lines of: why would I pay for something that is immediately and easily available entirely for free? Aside from the N64 portion, the virtual console is seeming more and more irrelevant to me.
|
Re: Megaman 9
Sorry, the thought of the words "free" and "capcom" together make me laugh uncontrollably no matter what the situation. :lolz:
As for the virtual console, it's true. But I do love the convenience and the comfort of the controller and my couch. |

I dunno, I think it's an interesting idea... Instead of making an old game with newer graphics, they make a new game with older graphics! Video game nostalgia has been "in" for the past few years... Mega Man has hardly benefited from new graphics anyways, the series has been on a steady decline since MM3 (and 2 is still by far the best)... What have they got to lose at this point? If they can make and sell it for cheap, it might just catch enough people's attention to work... And they might even make a really fun game... Mega Man 2 became one of my favorite NES games ever, and I never really played it until a few years ago... My only question is... If they can fully re-make Bionic Commando with HD 2.5D graphics, new gameplay elements, new boss fights, etc etc... And sell it for $10-$15... What could they possibly ask for MM9 NES redux? |
Re: Megaman 9
I just love the :-o expression on his face as he jumps.
And I agree, Megaman was really awesome on the NES, and for the first 2 games on SNES, until they introduced all the new characters, and took away from the whole "Megaman" aspect of the game, and it just sort of became another Sonic. |

In which ways does it become another Sonic? Focus on other characters? |

Pretty much. I just dislike when games like that, (Really - only Megaman and Sonic) try to appeal to new markets (usually a younger target that didn't grow up with the title) by putting in new "edgier" characters. Like Poochy. |

People say side characters ruined Sonic. But in all honesty he hasn't been without a sidekick since the first game. Granted, the influx of hedgehogs is pretty annoying as is his romantic interest. Though gives me an idea for a thread. |
Re: Megaman 9
I think the issue was adding characters that were better than Sonic. They did the same things and more, which detracted from Sonic being awesome. :p
At any rate, Mega Man 9 is a new game. But if I had to bet money I'd say they just slapped together some used and unused art from the 8-bit era for a quick buck. The real question, how will the music sound? If it has an original (and good) Mega Man sound track then I'll buy it. :D |

Re: Megaman 9
I don't know.
I can understand if they're trying to appeal to people that played the Mega Man games back in the day, and maybe to the people that enjoy them that are closer to my age, like BLue and myself, but I think a take on the Mega Man series like they're doing with Bionic Commando would have been for the best. 2.5 HD games are great ways to make simple games show power from a system by using crazy lighting and particle effects, etc. You also would like to keep the flavor of the old school going too. Why wouldn't they make visual upgrades to games like MK2 and Street Fighter 2 on XBLA and PSN? People remember it that way and that's what they like. |

They're certainly aware of Mega Man's 2.5D potential... Quote:
Adding flashy HD particle effects to the Mega Man series would be about as effective as making Police Academy 8 a Square Pictures CGI event. So long as they're going to stick with the exact same formula without adding anything significantly new to the table, they might as well throw in some extreme retro flavor... |

Seems like the game will be 1k Wii Points or just 10 bucks. Not bad. |
Re: Megaman 9
The rollercoaster ride continues.
New Trailer which looks friggin awesome. And oddly makes me wish for a Sonic game done in his 2D style. And info. http://wii.ign.com/articles/888/888041p1.html -Not WiiWare exclusive, coming to PSN/XBLA. -Megaman 1 and 2 coming to VC. -Online leaderboard. -Trailer looks sweet. |
Re: Megaman 9
"Mega Man 9 is set after the events of Mega Man 8"
Which was set between the events of Mega Man 2 and 3, neither of which actually took place despite doing so only a day before the events of Mega Man 4, which itself was sequentially the last Mega Man game since, if you follow all the clues, you'd come to realize that 5-7 were all part of the futuristic X series. |

So then Megaman 9 takes place 48 seconds after Megaman 8, and 13 seconds before the start of Megaman 4? |

Cool, old school platforming!

I like the idea, but ive never been much of a Megaman fan. I actually consider it overrated.

My only memory of Mega Man 2 as a child was Quick Man's level, and not being able to get past like the 2nd screen... And dubbing the game impossible... Upon picking it up a few years ago, I found the game overall to be surprisingly easy by comparison, and extremely satisfying... MM3 and up got a little bit harder because you could only hit the bosses once every second or so, whereas in MM2 you could blast the crap out of them and every hit counted... |
Re: Megaman 9
Maybe my bro and me should try MM2 again this summer. We bought it because we knew it was a classic, but we never really bothered much with it.

Hah!
Only the first two Mega Man games' covers featured him as a normal-sized human man... MM3 and on he was featured in his typical munchkin manchild form... Good times... |
