|
Re: MGS4
Well, I'll be keeping the dream alive on the PSP end of things with Portable Ops Plus. It's the closest I'll be getting to Old Man Snake for years to come, no doubt.
Here's hope a new Metal Gear Acid comes out, to lay a fresh heap of fan service in the form of cards. |
Re: MGS4
Oh dear lord yes. I went to the Rogers Video Dylflon works at because it's MUCH more convenient on my drive to work, and it turns out they had the Limited Edition. Woop woop! The only problem was it was $5 more but I didn't have to wait in line or worry about preorders or anything. :D
I can't wait to play this beast. |
Re: MGS4
And what else does the limited edition have? Or is it just that: no waiting in line?
|
Re: MGS4
It's got the game, cover with badass Shinkawa boxart, A 2 hour making-of Blu-Ray, adn the official soundtrack.

Re: MGS4

It's amazing how we have about 5 other people watching me play this game. We go to people's houses and bring my PS3 to just sit and be amazed. Truly, truly awesome. |
Re: MGS4
Definitely my top GOTY. MGS4 (my friend has it and i've played the crap out of it) and (call me crazy..) Condemned 2 have given me so much gaming pleasure already this year that it's crazy.
I can really see MGS keeping me busy for a while when I get my hands on a copy. |
Re: MGS4
10/10 from IGN!!!
That's HUGE, considering they just handed out the same score a little over a month ago. Only one of those games deserves the 10, though. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/881/881472p1.html |
Re: MGS4
Wow! Nice. I can't wait to see how it compares to GTA4. Kojima Productions is the master of detail in games and GTA4 was quite detailed.
|
Re: MGS4
HOLY SHIT
|
Re: MGS4
After an intense cram session on all things Metal Gear last night with the dvd and internets and today with bird explaining it to me while at lunch I am ready to start it up. Just picked it up from Gamestop and it's installing now!
|
Re: MGS4
I want to play this so badly, but of course I don't even have a PS3 or a nice TV to even make it worthwhile. I do have that economic stimulus package coming soon, maybe that's where it'll go, haha...Nah, I'm still too poor. Damn you guys, I'm jealous as hell.
|
Re: MGS4
Add another 10 to the list... Gamespot just gave it one.

Re: MGS4
Holy DAMN...another game scoring 10s from IGN and Gamespot? Not a bad couple months for PS3 gamers. I'm picking up this badboy tomorrow, really excited!
|
Re: MGS4
another 10 wow. Go ps3 :)
I started playing it, looks real real nice :) |
Re: MGS4
Finished. Good game. I'm not sure I enjoyed how split up the areas were. The diversity felt good, but I loved the first two games for having an interconnected game world that could be, for the most part, traversed and retreaded at will. MGS4 is definitely a tunnel, and I never felt like I truly got to know any of the setting represented. This may be in part because of my anxiousness to get through things quickly to keep the plot flowing.
Story suffered heavily in the way that many conspiracy plots do when they finally attempt to answer all the questions. I'll give it to them: almost everything was wrapped up or explained in some way. The problem is in what those explanations were. Sometimes, it felt very much like a fan-fic with high production values. On the other side though, MGS4's strength shines through when it hits the player with specific moments, not narrative or plot. When you reach a certain area, and certain audio and visual cues start hitting, it really gets to you. I will not spoil it, but Metal Gear Solid 4, for all the criticism of the series as being interactive movies, is best in ways that only work as a game. And that is a good, good thing. If I think too much, there are some real concerns. But in the moment, and as an experience, great fun. New Game+ now. edit: ty |
Re: MGS4
So, I ended up playing a solid 12 straight hours yesterday. Only stopping once for dinner. This game is blowing me away in every way. I love it to death.
I can't wait 'til I get off of work tonight so I can binge on this game some more. :D |
Re: MGS4
Gameplay is much more fun now that I'm not running through the game to see the story. Experimenting with the Mosin-Nagant Tranq. Sniper Rifle is very fun; you can buy different types of ammo to cause soldiers to cry, laugh, and go insane, along with standard putting them to sleep.
One thing that I've found disappointing when dealing with enemies was the lack of recognition on where the bullets penetrate; yes, headshots register, and you take them down quicker if you don't hit them in the vest armor area, but I miss torturing my holdup victims by slowly crippling each appendage. Wonder why they took that out. |

Re: MGS4
Fair enough.
I played more today, and will play more again this evening. I have not had this kind of urge to immediately replay a game that has been beaten since Metal Gear Solid 2. It is a strange thing to feel that again, and I think I did not at first expect it. I finished the game yesterday, and by habit, I ejected it from my system and put it in its case, and placed the case back on the shelf. I'm used to this. And once its on the shelf, it doesn't get played again. It sits for a while until it is sold. But then this morning, I wanted to play it again. Reviewing my criticisms of the game's failings, both those I have posted and those I have simply thought, I am coming to a point where those concerns are marginalized and replaced simply by the desire to play the game more. It's nice. |
Re: MGS4
I know the feeling. I just really want to play the game again after I'm done. It's that good.
|
Re: MGS4
Yeah, after working all day I'll be playing starting soon... I'm trying to decide whether or not to just finish Act 3 and eat dinner while watching the cutscene or not... I think I'll just do that actually.
*turns on PS3* |
