First Screens of Banjo 3

Stolen from neoGAF.

Looks pretty good.
But lukewarm after Banjo Tooie and DK 64.

Here's a little surprise that popped up a few days ago...

Take the subtle hint as you will...

Looking fantastic.

And the above is a mock-up of the purported Wii-mote for the 360.

gekko 05-11-2008 09:11 PM

Re: First Screens of Banjo 3

The beauty of the 360 is it doesn't have a Wii Remote.

Tht aside, Banjo's world seems to dwarf him. Oh, and Mumbo Jumbo rules.

Honestly I wouldnt say it looks that good at all. The Banjo design is horrible.

and that does not bode well

Or a platformer with vehicles.

I'm so out of touch I didn't even know this game was being made, but it does look good and that's exciting. Agreed that Banjo looks weird though.

Seriously, Banjo has square legs. What's up with that.

The scope of that level makes me pine for this game though. So torn. :(

Re: First Screens of Banjo 3

"Reading some of the comments, it's nice to see that people think the game is quite pretty, but its definitely not a racer, which is what some people think it is," said George Kelion, community liason. "You're better off waiting until tomorrow, when we reveal what is for us the most spectacular feature of the game, which is the gameplay mechanic."

I kind of like it. Depending on how the other characters turn out, and how it meshes with the game environments and overall aesthetics, it could give things a unique look.

I dig Viva Pinata 2's style much more off the bat though.

I liked Banjo when I was like 14,15 i dont even remember, I don't think this game does anything for me right now.

Re: First Screens of Banjo 3

Yuck, Rare has sucked since Microsoft bought them and half of the people working for them jumped ship. Those pictures look terrible, but I will reserve judgment till I see some gameplay footage or play it myself.

To give credit where credit is due, Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie were both awesome games. They were easily in the top post-Super Mario 64 games. After Super Mario 64; Rayman 2, Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie, and Conker's Bad Fur Day were pretty much the only essential adventure games you needed to buy for the N64. For some reason I could never fully get into Donkey Kong 64....

I'm going to echo gekko's comment, Mumbo Jumbo is the man.

I wish this was the most terrible game I had seen this generation.

Stolen from GAF which got from new Gameinformer

Quote:

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (360)
- RARE says they didn't want to make a hi res version of the old Banjo platformer.
- You create vehicles with parts you find around the levels.
- GI says their first vehicles was a 4 wheeled kart with a spring attached to the bottom that allowed them to jump things. They later found a helicopter blade that allowed their kart to fly. Later they added balloons to the vehicle and put the blade on the back and created a hovercraft.
- RARE showed them a vehicle that was a monster truck that was able to detach its chasis to become a mini bike. When the bike ramped off a cliff it revealed collapsible glider wings and started flying.
- There will be 1,600 parts including weapons that you'll be able to attach to the vehicles.
- The town is called Showdown Town.
- GI says that despite the large focus on vehicles it still features platform elements from the previous games like traditional platforming, tight rope walking and jiggy piece collecting.
- Showdown Town is 16 times larger than anything RARE has created before.
- Every level has a different intro. Nutty Acres begins with a credits spoof of 80's soap opera's like Dallas.
- Note collecting is back and will act has currency that'll allow you to bu vehicle blueprints.
- RARE says there are 15 different challenges spread across 6 different levels. There will also be side missions.

Alright, that sounds fun. Count me in. Balls deep, if you will.

Re: First Screens of Banjo 3

Even if the vehicle focus doesn't pan out, kudos to Rare for not simply remaking the N64 game in HD with fur shaders.

Banjo Threeie is a better title than Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts though.

Dyne 05-12-2008 06:53 PM

Re: First Screens of Banjo 3

I don't know, nuts and bolts has a lot more innuendo. I hear that's good for sales.

Renwood 05-12-2008 07:18 PM

Re: First Screens of Banjo 3

Ratchet & Clank have the market cornered on buddy platforming subtitle innuendo.

I read a thread about it on VGChartz, it seems like a love-or-hate game at the moment.

That looks really good but... wow, there is a lot more vehicle stuff than I bargained for. :(

Renwood 05-13-2008 04:39 PM

Re: First Screens of Banjo 3

The vehicle customization could be great or not. What I don't understand is what necessitates them removing every use of Kazooie. I can't even glide after a jump? Something?

Why is he even there?

Or, why is this Banjo-Kazooie and not a new IP?

Oh, right. Marketing.

Graphics are fairly nice, kind of cool art style, but the square character thing is kind of pushing it too far. Really reminds me of Jak3, where they kinda dropped a lot of the platforming elements the series was known for and added a bunch of vehicle shit (though it was fun).
