Team Fortress 2
Not sure if anyone has pre-ordered the orange box, but I did and I can now play the beta of Team Fortress 2. Although I havent gotten to it because its taking forever to decrypt the files...if anyone has it we should definatley play together, im sure it will be awsome.

Re: Team Fortress 2
i'm probably going to buy it this weekend, so i'll be there...
i know Null will be playing it for sure, not sure who else though... |
Re: Team Fortress 2

EDIT: Quote:
Alriiiiiiiiight my computer can handle that. I'll be playing tonight if I can download in time! |
Re: Team Fortress 2
My steamid is barneyis666. I can see Null is already playing it, he said something about the graphics being awesome.

Re: Team Fortress 2

Re: Team Fortress 2
yea. i got my new GFX card couple weeks ago. 8800gts 640mb. and man am i glad i did. the game defaults me as every setting on max. and i fly through this game without a stutter. :D
game looks fantastic. i love the graphic style. theres a lot of moments that just make you laugh. :) it is a beta tho, expect some bugs, altho i havnt seen many. really only 1 i can think of. which is very minor. maps for me take a little getting used to, because the only one i know and recognize is 2fort. which looks great, altho i could do without the roof over the bridge. gets in the way of my sniping :P my steam id, should be nullifedone |
Re: Team Fortress 2
I was able to jump on for about half an hour late last night. A little earlier I jumped on to a 2Fort server for just to quickly try it out, and within only 3:00 minutes I racked up 7 kills and 15 points as a sniper, getting "critical hit" after critical hit, all while talking on the phone with my girlfriend. Perhaps the sniper is too powerful?
That seems to be impression thus far -- some classes are much more useful than others. The sniper, demo-man, and, somewhat less, the scout seem too good. But I'm sure my impression will change... It was fun! |
Re: Team Fortress 2
more i see the more i feel its actually pretty balanced. because it feels like a different class is more powerful at different times.
spy seem to be pretty powerful at times. and will get somewhat annoying if theres too many of em. it really depends on what the other team has to counter you. if the sniper is allowed to stand there uncontested then hes going to rack up some kills. demo man is quite powerful if the other team is in a group in a hallway. otherwise i find if you get up close to em, they'll have a much harder time hitting you. because they have to hit you directly then instead of just lobbing the grenade near you. scout i've never seen over powered in any way, only takes like 1 hit to kill em. hehe |
Re: Team Fortress 2
Ahh the spy moments brought back great memories from TFC. I love looking at a fellow teammate and thinking how odd he is acting for his class, and how he seems to have an odd interest in following me! Shooting him to make sure and revealing he's a spy is so gratifying.

Re: Team Fortress 2
Okay I got you guys invites. Anyways, I would be playing this game, but for some reason right now I cant play any steam game, they all immediatley crash with this error upon launching...
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: hl2.exe Application Version: 0.0.0.0 Application Timestamp: 46ccbf79 Fault Module Name: shaderapidx9.dll Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 46eac7f4 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00029816 OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: f708 Additional Information 2: 2d645f9807c58f9e6bcea951e3ac2c9c Additional Information 3: 9f8c Additional Information 4: 984133996adf5c791b56cc8e5d498863 If anyone who knows a lot can make any sense of that let me know how to fix it. |
Re: Team Fortress 2
well it is a beta, thats what they're looking for people like you having thoes problems so they can get it fixed in time for release.
whats your system and OS ? |
Re: Team Fortress 2
Amd Turion x2 blah blah,
1 Gig Ram Geforce Go 7600 Windows Vista I found an article about this ussue on the steam support pages, but none of the available fixes actually fix it for me...oh and just today I realised the problem isnt restricted to just TF2, no steam games will run, they all just pop up with that error. Ive heard around the forums that whatever is happening might have been caused by the latest steam client update, but so far nothing I do seems to fix it. In any event, I have been able to play steam games fine on my laptop before, so its obviously something that has happened since the last time I played a steam game, which I dont know when that was... |
Re: Team Fortress 2
might be a driver issue with vista. i have vista. but i had to work at getting bioshock to work for a little bit at first... this ran right away with no problem, but maybe it was because of something i did for bioshock
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
Yea, if it is a driver issue I would love to find where I can get updated drivers for my graphics card. If you go to Nvidias driver update page it dosent list any drivers that support the Geforce go 7600.
And people said ATI's driver support was bad... |
Re: Team Fortress 2
ati does the same thing. you dont find drivers for a specific card. you find drivers for that cards series. and all the cards in that series are in the same package.
goto http://nzone.com/object/nzone_downlo...etadriver.html and try the beta drivers for your system. those are what im using. |
Re: Team Fortress 2
Okay it dosent list Vista there...
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
oh, they updated. 163.69 is now the default for vista. no longer beta.
so you can find those the normal way. |
Re: Team Fortress 2
Well I played it at home, it works fine on my home PC running a Radeon X800 GTO
Fairly fun, although I always get my ass kicked in these multiplayer games... Oh and Null, about this Nvidia drivers...you say that you can now download them the "normal" way. Well I go to Nividias webpage, click download drivers, and there is no selection listed for Geforce Go drivers...there is one cateregory called "Geforce Go 7800/7900 laptops" but thats not what I have, I have a 7600. If I click Geforce 7 series, and go to the supported cards, my card is not listed. |
Re: Team Fortress 2
what is your card exactly?
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
Nvidia Geforce Go 7600
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
what brand though? asus, bfg, gigabyte, evga, etc. ?

Re: Team Fortress 2
You might check the Everex website then (or whoever makes your notebook). I have a Dell laptop, and I am required to go to Dell's website for any driver updates, even though I have a Radeon 9700 in there.
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
Hey your right, never even thought of that, ive never had to do that before. We will see if it works though.
EDIT: Well I installed the updated drivers, but it didnt fix my problem. Based on the error that comes up with the crash, I think its a DirectX problem, but I re-installed directX and that didnt fix it either. And I tried all the fixes that were on the Steam page. Im stumped. |
Re: Team Fortress 2
I just loaded it onto all the cafe computers at work by sunday morning it will be playable!
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
i'm downloading it now, killergremlin is my id...it's gonna be a partay, i'm excited

Re: Team Fortress 2
oh blissful bliss, how TF2 rocks socks
I maintain that TFC is the best Capture the Flag game ever made. It had so much depth and personality... So far I'm pretty impressed with TF2. It definitely is more balanced and conservative than TFC. Taking the grenades out really changes the style of gameplay: you can't get 3 instant kills unless you are a Demoman. Sniping is much slower and laid back. Initially I did not like the new sniping style, however after hammering out a few rounds on Dustbowl I've changed my mind. The full charge isn't necessary to kill Scouts or Snipers or Engineers if you get headshots. Rocket jumping seems ten times easier in TF2 than it was in TFC, and you can still grenade jump as a Demoman. The Pyro is just as annoying as he was in TFC, although without fire rockets you really are limited to close range. I still haven't got the hang of the Spy yet, although the few times I've made a successful flank have been very fun. It just seems that every time I get behind enemy lines I want to start blowing stuff up with grenades...that I don't have. Overall, TF2 seems much more tactical and teambased than TFC was. The Medics are the class that appears to have had the biggest overhaul, no longer is the Medic an offensive unit. I already miss grenade jumping with the Scouts and Medic, but I'm sure I'll find other things to love about them in TF2. The Engineer looks pretty solid, but I need to be in a lazy mood to build sentrys and play defense. The Scout is fast as ever, and the baseball bat is surprisingly efficient considering how novel it looks. The graphics are fantabulous. They really hit this one dead on. Now I hope the community develops their own deviations and mods for TF2, and I expect to be playing this game for a lonnggg time. But, I still also plan to drop into TFC every once in a while as long as their are people playing. |

But I digress. I wanted to comment on your "I want to start blowing stuff up with grenades". By stuff, I'm guessing you mean sentries and other Engi stuff, at least for the most part. Maybe you already figured this out, but it took me awhile to figure out how to use the Spy's number 2 weapon, the energy sapper or whatever. Now that I have figured it out, I think the Spy is the strongest weapon against engineer sentries. I love disguising as an enemy engineer when the other team has a whole load of them, and then placing that energy sapper on every sentry while they scramble around trying to fix them and figure out what's going on. Then I'll sit back for several minutes and yell for an enemy medic to come heal me hahaha... So yeah, just wanted to say, if you're looking to blow up some engineer shiz, then the spy's energy sapper thing is where it's at. Most importantly, you don't lose your disguise using it. |

Re: Team Fortress 2
http://steamcommunity.com/id/nullifiedone/stats/TF2
my stats for most points and kills were for sniper... but i played demoman this afternoon and beat my sniper scores.... now imma have to go back sniper and try and beat thoes. hehe. my friend was playing spy the other day, he was on the defending team, so he ran over to where the attacking team comes out... waited till it counted down to release the attacking team, went invisible... all 12 players ran by him... he uncloaked and knifed every damn one of em on their rush... it was hilarious. and i never really liked TFC. so i loved the original TF though. played it for 4 or 5 years. :) |
Re: Team Fortress 2
can't wait for the full release
my steam: sethmatic |
Re: Team Fortress 2
ah, the spy is a lot of fun once you get the hang of switching between enemy disguises, cloaking, knifing, and blowing up dispensers and sentry guns all while staying moving. Very rarely do I stop as a spy or stay as the same class. I think the cloak ability almost gives the Spy too much of an advantage, you know...disguise, knife, cloak, disguise, knife, cloak, disguise, blow up some supply depots and turrets, knife...and so on. But oh man is it fun, and it really helps clean up the enemy snipers and engineers. Nothing is more satisfying than killing a HW in one swift knife stab either.

has the video on there for the Demoman... best one of their videos yet. hilarious. :) |
Re: Team Fortress 2
Picked up my Copy yesterday and I am very impressed by TF2. The classes i find myself being the most ( in order of time spent as) Sniper, spy, scout, soldier
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
That Demoman video is freaking amazing................
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
Had my best point total for one life, 39 points, 29 kills. I was the only engineer on my team on the 2fort map.
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
my best engy is 21 points... it was on gravelpit i went into A as defending side... put my my sentry on top of the middle rock... put up depot behind it. stood ontop of the depot and kept jumping and hitting the sentry with my wrech to repair it as it totally riped them up.... until they gave up and went B, got it and came into A through C... then i was kinda screwed. lol
|
Re: Team Fortress 2
my most points is as a spy, i think i got them on granary when i went behind enemy lines and killed like half their team and then went on to nuke a few sentrys, engineering is fun but i haven't spent too much time doing it yet
