Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
****! I can't find this anywhere!
The only downside of working full time for a video game company is working full time. |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
Eurogamer gave it a 7 because they say the Wii controls made it worse.

Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
Seems like nobody agrees on the Wii controls...
People either say they work very well, and the Wii version is the best of the 3 versions, or they say they are awkward and bring the Wii version down to the worst of the 3... I'm kinda sorta planning on picking up the Wii version for myself... Just for kicks (and the PS2 version's extras)... |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
seriously, take it from me. the wii controls are just plain perfectly awesome. a couple times you'll end up looking up or down by accident, but that quickly goes away.
what i have noticed though, is when you are supposed to quickly press a button to get out of the way, or the dodge a boulder, it doens't change like in the gamecube version..... it's always a+b. played 4 hours yesterday, and loved every single second of it. better than the cube experience. |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
First thing I noticed about the game is that it doesn't actually have the 16:9 resolution like I had heard it does...
There's absolutely no difference between the view/image quality having my Wii set to 4:3 with my TV set to "Zoom" and having the Wii on 16:9 and my TV set to "Stretch"... But maybe that's the whole idea... I'm kinda new to this whole widescreen, 480p, HDTV, LCD, BBC nonsense... |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
Is your widescreen setting on on your Wii?
And yeah, I finally got a hold of this. From the half an hour I played, I loved it to death. No problems with it. And I like the increased difficulty. |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
increased difficulty, I was thinking it was easier. At the beginning, before the belltower tolls, I did die 3 times though :-( That part seemed tough.
after 3h 30m i just rescued ashley and returned to the village. |

It looked exactly like the Gamecube version's view (which I was playing the night before)... So out of curiosity I turned my Wii to 4:3 with the "Zoom" (the one I always use for standard signals when I want them to take up more of the screen, as I was doing the night before with GC's RE4) and it was exactly the same... Same view, same sizes, same amount of blurriness... I saw someone else point it out on the IGN forums... "THIS GAME DOES NOT RUN IN 480p Widescreen. The review got it wrong. If your Wii is set up for 480p widescreen display, the game still runs in 640x360 like the Gamecube version but it zooms in on the image (which you had to do with your TV previously) to fill your screen. A disappointing discovery, not because of Capcom, but because of IGN."... Maybe it's something with the 480p setting I dunno I'm confused... |

probably no difference, i dont know about your tv tho....... but you dont want it on 'stretch' for widescreen... some tv's will display wide screen the wrong way when they have it set like that. widescreen should be on full. but some tv's stretch wont do anything on a screen that already takes up the full widescreen. but as i said, some will stretch it out more thinking the widescreen is a full screen picture. |

The only settings that deal with widescreen sizes (that I can find) are the screen fit options... "Sidebar" for standard 4:3 stuff in it's normal size. "Smart Stretch" which gradually stretches the sides of 4:3 stuff to fit the whole screen. "Zoom", which it says is "Suitable for viewing wide-screen 2.35:1 anamorphic DVDs in full screen". And "Stretch", which says "This mode is useful for viewing 1.78:1 DVDs." When I'm playing videogames with the TV on Sidebar and I change it to 16:9 (both Wii and PS2), it stays in it's 4:3-sized box, but everybody is tall and thin... So I select "Stretch", and it fits the screen keeping everything in the right proportion, without cutting anything off... I was under the impression that that was just the way it worked... There's no trouble with the image in any other cases, and there's no trouble with the image of RE4... It all fits, it's all in the right proportion, there's just no true widescreen... The game itself simply zooms in on the picture to cut off the black bars and fill the screen in the exact same way my TV would a regular 4:3 image were I to select the "Zoom" option... Edit: Wait a tic, I might just be retarded... *closely comparing the different versions* Edit #2: Aha! No I'm not retarded... Sorta... ![]() Top Left = Wii set to 16:9, TV set to "Stretch". Top Right = Wii set to 16:9, TV set to "Sidebar" (just for kicks, and the show that it's showing the whole image) Middle Left = Wii set to 4:3, TV set to "Zoom" (3 cheers for bumping the analog stick) Middle Right = Wii set to 4:3, TV set to "Sidebar" Bottom Left = Gamecube version, TV set to "Zoom" Bottom Right = Gamecube version, TV set to "Sidebar" |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
Incredible TV, eh DH?
|
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
wait wait wait, so the game always ran in widescreen anyway? just with the black bars on top and bottom, even if you had a normal tv?
(sorry, i've never touched the game yet) i thought the issue was that you were saying the game isnt really wide screen, it just zoomed in on the full screen version, taking away some of the top and bottom of the picture. the real issue your talking about then is just the resolution quality of the image? |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome

I guess taking pictures of the screen is not the best way to demonstrate the quality... But yes, the Gamecube version is simply programmed with "pretend" widescreen... Black bars at the top and bottom of the screen simply put there for effect, despite the fact that there is no actual 16:9 setting for widescreen TVs... The Wii version has the same bars when running in standard 4:3 mode... The PS2 version supposidely has true 16:9 widescreen, though I don't own it so I havn't tested it, but the Wii version was said (by IGN and various other reviews) to also have true 16:9... But I switched back and forth between the two settings a number of times (either with my TV zooming in on the 4:3 picture, or the Wii displaying the "true 16:9 widescreen"), and it's the exact same thing... Both are slightly blurred and jaggy due to the zoom... |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
I hate it when they cut from movies to fake widescreen. My Jurassic Park DVD shows less image than my VHS. Go widescreen!
Hm, thinking about the Jurassic Park suddenly makes me long to my family's home..... weird. |

It runs in what I guess amounts to letterbox. It looks like a widescreen movie run on a normal TV but it looks that way no matter what TV you play it on. And isn't natively 16:9 I believe. |

i didnt say cube version was set up to run on a widescreen tv. but it has the blackbars on it. so no matter what, the image was in widescreen. i didnt know that. i thought the game took up full screen on normal tv's. Quote:
very few movies do that, im not totally sure on Jurassic part. but this is true for little miss sunshine. the movie is shot in super35 i believe its called.... so no matter what view your watching it as, your missing something.. widescreen chopped a little off top and bottom but you see the full left and right...... fullscreen chopped off from the left and right but you saw the full up and down. ![]() kinda the jist of it. im not sure if this was the case for jurassic park tho |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
Some guy on the IGN board better explained what the Wii version does in 3 simple steps...
Step 1: Original Image Step 2: Wii's 16:9 option stretches the image vertically. Step 3: Your TV stretches the image horizontally to fit the screen Resulting in a blurrier, jaggier, but larger image... Exactly what you'd get by playing in 4:3 with your TV set to "Zoom"... What I don't understand is how so many different reviews could label it "True 16:9 widescreen"... Kinda lame... And misuninformeducating... |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
But on the Wii, graphics don't matter! So there's that.
|
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
Well, in Jurassic Park you can really see that they cut off the top and bottom when the Mr. DNA presentation runs. Near the end, they show a drawn dinosaur, but you can't see its head. It looks really stupid and I can assure you that you cán see the head on the VHS version.
The same with the scene where the helicopter lands. Now you can't see the spoof where the chopper is suddenly parked a few meters away from where it was parked in the previous shot. I don't think Jurassic Park has extra material on the sides, like that picture you showed. JP was shot in 1993, I'm not sure if they knew about widescreen TVs back then.... :) |

Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
In Holland, they're selling the game for full price (€60, $80). -_-'

It's still worth it at that price! |
Re: 4 Wiidition is still awesome
Yeah this game looks sick, I was considering buying it because it's only $30. Does it have any kind of mode other than the regular campaign mode in it?

It was in the original Gamecube version and every release since then... Seperate Ways is the title of the Ada scenario Dyne was talking about... 5 new "Chapters" chronicling what Ada was up to during the events of the game... It was first released on the PS2 version, so this is the first time it is available on a Nintendo console... Then of course, as Dyne said, there's the Mercenaries mini-game, though I'd hardly call it a game in itself... And on a minor note, it has the third costume set and the special parasite-removal laser gun that were first introduced with the PS2 version... |
