What do you like...

.. about your city.

I mean after living in a certain area you grow to love it for some reasons or hate it I suppose.

So what do you like about your city?

BigJustinW 04-25-2002 12:31 AM

What to I LIKE about Bakersfield?

*dies from laughter*

jeepnut 04-25-2002 12:32 AM

Don't you guys love it how BreakABone always asks these questions and then never answers them himself?

Yeah...me too.

Anyway, my town is first and foremost, the greatest sports town. Second, we got the Arch. No one else does. And then, you got the great midwestern weather and culture.

EDIT: For those who don't know, I live in St. Louis, MO. That is all.

If he did answer it, then he wouldn't have a legitmate reason to bump it in the event this topic fails; or so I'm told.

GameKinG 04-25-2002 12:35 AM

Uhhh....lets see:

-Prostitutes
-Hobos
-Hollywood
-Stars
-Lakers
-Downtown
-The county district is larger then the smallest two states or something like that...
-only eight states have a larger population including Ca.
-Jillian on Good Day LA
-Lots of Bars...
-Corrupt Cops (not too proud of that)
-Dodgers

-one thing I dont like: Venice Beach (i.e. freak town) mostly just shops that sell hindu statues and marjuana shirts.

Yeah the stuff above is a little, But I could go on forever...I might do that later even. Buts is really confusing when you get down too it. Most people view LA as a city, but its a county with about 88 cities. So im just viewing the county, since all the sports teams are like that too. Though they are trying to split up san fernando valley, the bulk of LA, from the county...which is also confusing...

GameMaster 04-25-2002 12:41 AM

What I like about my city...

• Money is not an issue
• There's a lot of sidewalks and some parks to enjoy the city from your
bicycle, scooter, or skateboard.
• There are lot's of bike trails to travel around my city on
• It's generally a safe place
• The schools are excellent
• We have a variety of restauraunts and other forms of recreation
• The houses are all spread away from the downtown except for the
apartments
• There are endless opportunities to play sports on organized teams any time
of the year
• We are a friendly community
• It well kept and clean
• It's landscaped well

TheGrimReaper 04-25-2002 12:42 AM

Lygon street and Music Junction.

DeathsHand 04-25-2002 12:43 AM

eehhhhh well I've lived in arlington all mah life... I dunno what I like about it... it's nice though :D

I guess it's convenient... lots of stuff everywhere... don't gotta go very far from where I live to get to the mall or the metro or whatever...

And the metro connects you with so many other places... DC and such...

And it's just nice... all country emptiness, but not like a huge crazy city...

Oh and did I mention the all-star sports lineup?... The wizards... and capitals....... and........ redskins.....

although that's DC and not arlington, close enough... BTW, I still like the redskins :sneaky:

uhh yeah... so..... yeah..... It's also got nice biking stuffs... a nice bike trail... and also some nice lil' offroad areas down by the river...

yeah.... bye

GameKinG 04-25-2002 12:49 AM

You have rivers in your town? I wish we did...that would be so cool. We have the LA river, buts its walls are cement and its only 10-20 feet wide ussualy. About 4 feet deep. And the water dosnt seem to appealing.

Yeah... it's the Potomac... it seperates Arlington and DC :D

Then there's the Anacostia river or something that runs up through DC.... but.... that's probably like.... filled with bodies or something

;)

TheGrimReaper 04-25-2002 03:09 AM

And you killed them, didn't you Deathshand ;)

Revival 04-25-2002 09:05 AM

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Derry is the ****tiest town ever. I've been wanting to move for years now.. no such luck :(

Ric 04-25-2002 10:57 AM

Nothing, I absolutely hate it, it's complete sh*t. Oh wait, I dont live in a city do I  guess I was wrong.

What do I like about it, the fact that the countryside is right on my doorstep and that its... its my place, part of me, where I grew/am growing up.

Perfect Stu 04-25-2002 11:06 AM

Toronto

Great sports city, especially hockey (this is the REAL hockey town, not Detroit)
Lots of things to do
Great golf courses
Great climate IMO (I like snow in the winter)
Has this damn good nightclub (The Guvernment...although I've only been there for like 2 hours on some youth day garbage)
CN Tower
Friendly people (unless you get too close to Lake Ontario [way downtown]...then the people get freaky)
Uh...and...great golf courses...again...:sneaky:

Then again, the people in my specific neighbourhood are just evil...

Ginkasa 04-25-2002 06:32 PM

Eh, its just the place I live. Nothing really special about it....

Where exactly did you hear this at?

I'm just curious that isn't the reason I don't answer to my own threads when I post it, but I'll stay you when you reveal this source.

The Germanator 04-25-2002 07:26 PM

There's npt much to say about Wilmington, in fact, downtown Wilmington is pretty scary. Newark is a good town though, good cd stores, good restaurants, that kind of thing. Then I guess Philadelphia is very close by and I don't go there that often, usually for sports games and concerts. The Trocadero Theatre makes Philly worthwhile on its own.

P.S Did you know that Delaware has the highest Herion abuse rate in the country? That's why I stay out of downtown Wilmington.

ghettodude 04-25-2002 10:32 PM

yo.. i went to the "guvernment" like.. a few months ago! they got a crazy light system! they got all these lazers and ****! hehe.. its so cool!

there are rivers in toronto too.. quite a few actually...

i like looking out my window and seeing the CN tower.. its just so big.. and... whenever i look out i can say "thats the highest anything manmade has ever been attached to the ground... "

and the skydome the huge... dome right beside the CN tower... and the lake.. even though its pretty nasty water its nice to look at...

high park... this huge park... (about.. 1/4 of central park in new york in size) ...

and of course the RAPTORS and the leafs... amazing teams...

i like the transportation too.. u can get like.. anywhere in toronto for like $1.50 ... although now i drive so public transit doesnt really matter much anymore... but yea this city rocks... i love it... i wish it was a country.

Ravishing Rick Rude 04-26-2002 07:53 AM

I live within Explosion Distance of two Nuke Plants

either then that?

This town has nothing.

Andromida_ 04-26-2002 05:34 PM

Well for once I actually have to agree with Shooter about something... Derry is a crappy town. I guess the only reason I am still living here now is because of the schools.
Well we wanted a bigger house and one that was closer to my dad's work, so we were going to move out of Derry. Then my dad's work moved and we didn't have to :(.... Well we still needed to move because we needed a bigger house and I wanted to move away from Derry... we were still going to until we found our dream house and guess what.... it was still in Derry  oh well I guess I'm stuck here.

BlueFire 04-26-2002 05:40 PM

Well, I live in a portion of the city where there are Cubans and South Americans everywhere. Nothing great about here...But the beaches are nice :)

London:

The good:
Speakers corner
The highly varied nightlife
The weird shops you never see anywhere else
The amazing buildings (e.g. St. Pauls Cathedral)
The museums
The stimulation
Loads of different cultures
London in the summer - Hyde Park, and all the rest of them - is beautiful
Public transport 24/7

The bad:
The expense (rent costs a fortune - I pay £65 a week, and that is considered extremely cheap)
The homeless
Crime (thankfully, no exposure yet - but there are some scary people about
The scary people
The way that, at times, although you're surrounded by 8 million people, it can sometimes feel very lonely
The blind spots you develop

If I'm able to, I'd love to live here for the rest of my life...

J3]IMaster 04-28-2002 11:04 AM

Not really a city, but I live in a small village in the heart of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire:

Good:

The Views
Peaceful
Lots of Shops nearby (Nottingham, great city)
Lots of Heritage (Castles and stuff)
Many Parks and Skateboard facilities
Close Community
Lots of Bike trails (Have to travel through them every day)
The fact that Robin Hood could have lived in a tree in my Garden :D
Massive Fishing Lake about 2000 yds away

Bad:

Too Peaceful...
Lots of Tourists
Varied Weather

BreakABone 04-28-2002 11:14 AM

Well, since GameMaster never did answer to my post and SDT already pushed it up. I will take the time to answer the question. Stupid BaB always asking these weird questions!

Well, let's see the thing I love most about my city (And for the purpose of these thread my city will refer to New York City which is the 5 boroughs because I'm still a tad confused on these whole Brooklyn thing) is the fact that there is so much here. Ok, I could account some of that to being one of the biggest tourist cities in the world or the fact that we had Ellis Island with all the immigrants from Europe coming through but there is plenty of stuff in NYC.

We have musuems of all varieties. We have musuems for art, history, science and even trains.

We have tons and tons of nightclubs (Heck there is one about 5 minutes form me just don't care for it)

One of the biggest collection of porn shops in any city (Not that I've ever visited them)

Plenty of forms of enterainment. We have BroadWay plays (I've been to like 2), we have concerts in the Park. events at the musuems (like the Star Wars exhibit that is there now), we have plenty of arenas for sports one of which is MSG and well just some other little places like arcades (Found one right around the corner from my school with Tekken 4 and some other games but most are old and I own for my DC), lazer park and ofcourse the movies.

The advantages in living in such a city. We were the first city outside of Japan I believe to get a PokeMon Center, we have WWF New York, AllStar Cafe, the Statue of Liberty and many others.

The history is diverse and sometimes interesting. Like there is an area of Brooklyn built upon Indian's ground. The Canarsee Inidians or something. There is Fort Greene which I forgot the importance of because I haven't visited that place in like 9 years.

So that is about it. I would point out the bad of my city, but I think I did most in my old thread "Freaks..."

The_Dunadan 04-28-2002 12:50 PM

i actually like mah city, dayton ohio. its not too big, its not too small. everybody is pretty friendly. we're not just white or just black or just mexican, its a pretty good mix. crime isn't bad. its not trashy or anything. we've got some sports teams or they aren't too far away. it has tons of stores and stuff. some famous ppl have live there(wright brothers, martin sheen, etc.). we've got all kinds of entertainment. the downtown area is undergoing huge changes like more buildings, a baseball stadium, getting ready for the anniversery of flight and stuff. its a kewl place to live.

Angrist 04-28-2002 02:36 PM

My city??? lol, it counts 30.000 habitants. http://www.sneek.nl/
What I like about it??? :D Ehm... my house of course! And... I gotta admitt my school is pretty neat actually, it could have been a lot worse!
Our cinema is nice, but it could be a lot better.

The Waterpoort (watergate), a monument I guess, pretty famous (do you know the brand Gaastra?? It has a logo of the Waterpoort).

What I don't like?? Ehm... we could use some more stores I guess....

Look! The street where I was born!!

DeathsHand 04-28-2002 03:41 PM
