Zelda GCN
Has anyone picked it up? Sure is strange going through the game mirrored, east is west and west is east, Link is left handed, pretty neat. I'm not sure which version of the game I prefer yet, but I can say that I definitely missed having full camera control with the Wii game.
Using the c-stick to move the camera is sweet, but then aiming isn't as intuitive as using the wiimote. Both games look fantastic, but I think the Wii version has widescreen? Not sure, but as a GCN title, Zelda TP is absolutely gorgeous. Anyway, curious to hear the thoughts of anyone else who's played both versions. |
Re: Zelda GCN
I'd like some Gamecube feedback, and some contrast between the two, because i need to decide which version i want....

One difference is that the GC version's disc is significantly smaller than that of the Wii disc. We can call a Wii disk a Wiisk Do they use the term Wii-mail, coz i use it all the time |
Re: Zelda GCN
I'm trading in my Wii version for the GC version. I officially cannot stand slashing with the Wiimote. It's tiring and not as responsive as I would like.

But hey uhh... Fishing is awesome. ... I think I might pick the GC version up... Circuit City has it for $37.99 this week... |
Re: Zelda GCN
I'm not very far into it, but I think I prefer just hitting the B button, and aiming with a real remote is much steadier than my own hand. Being a purist, I also prefer playing it like it was originally envisioned instead of flipped around...

Re: Zelda GCN
anyone tried the classic controller with the Wii Zelda? i've heard the classic controller works on some wii games, and i cant seem to find any website that says if it does or doesnt, just that the gamecube controller doesnt work.

Re: Zelda GCN
I completely forgot about the GCN version. Perhaps I should get being Wiiless and all. Would you say the game can be beaten in 2 weeks?
|
Re: Zelda GCN
Yes, depending on how much you play it.

Re: Zelda GCN
Question: is the Wii controller that annoying?

If you can find a copy to try, do it. But don't judge it on 30 minutes of pissing around. Real combat doesn't occur for a while into the game and it requires real combat to get you acclimated to the new system. |
Re: Zelda GCN
also, if you really slash your arm like a sword. it gets VERY tiring. all you really need to do is flick your wrist. its not really bad or tiring, i'd of prefered if they gave you a button to use to slash the sword, and still use the controller to point, because its really good at that.
this is kind of what i've always been worried about, nintendo FORCING you to use the motion sensing in times where its not needed. they did that with the DS for a while. but eventually stoped that. but its not really bad and it doesnt ruin the game, i dont find it tiring. its just not needed when we coulda just pressed a button. |
Re: Zelda GCN
well reading through the gamespot review of the gamecube version, they had some interesting notes to make on the control comparison.....

im happily going to stick with the wii version.. aside from my only slight problem with it (the sword slashing) which really isnt that bad..... the other benefits of the wii version make up for it anyway. |
Re: Zelda GCN
I have to disagree with Gamespot's assertion that camera control and aiming is easier on the Wii.
Now, I could go on a diatribe about how the Wii version doesn't even have camera control, but I suppose I can just assume he was talking about the first person camera. But even so, I personally found it a pain having to use the control stick to move the camera in one direction, and then point the Wiimote to move it in another. Same with aiming. I also find it easier to aim with the "steadier hand" of the GCN version, even without an aiming cursor. It comes more naturally to me, I suppose... Of course, these are just opinions and they don't mean that Gamespot is wrong, but they do mean that Gamespot isn't necessarily right, either. Whichever version is better depends entirely on the person. Oh, and BTW, you can do spin attacks virtually continuously on the GCN version, which you can't on the Wii. Just keep spinning the control stick around in circles and keep hitting B. No recharge "sching" time either. So, they are wrong on that point. *shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Zelda GCN
actually, they already made a correction of the spin thing at the end of the review.
but i agree with the easier movements for other weapons, sure once you get it in the spot with a controller its more steady cuz it will stay where you put it. but for those who have a steady hand its really easy to point and click with thoes weapons. makes those much easier and quicker. not for everyone, but its much better for people who are used to quick precise aiming like fps on pc. |

That's pretty much what I just said: depends on the person. The point of my post, though, was that Gamespot didn't allow that; they just said the Wii version was better because the aiming was more precise, even though people like me have it easier on the GCN version. *shrugs and walks away* |

but all reviews are opinion based. they dont have to say it in every damn review. :P plus some people dont take the time to learn aiming with a certain way. not saying you. just saying in some cases. |
Re: Zelda GCN
How do the graphics compare? Sometimes I wonder if the Cube could pull certain things off.
About the Wii controls..... I love them. Shooting is so satisfying. The sword is a bit gimmicky (yes, this comes from a Nintendo fan) but it's still cool. I often find myself mimicking the sword movements more than needed. Not that I swing hard though. I love this game, I just can't understand why some reviewers won't give it a higher score. |
Re: Zelda GCN
The graphics are exactly the same, besides the whole mirroring thing.

I probably judged it after just 1 min of pissing around. But anyway does anyone think the music at twilight hyrule sounds vaguely like Silent Hill? |

Re: Zelda GCN
Wow, I like the GC version much better than the wii version. Anyone else played both?
Just having the free cam back (even though it's not as good as in WW) and controling the sword with a button makes it much better for me. |

But either way, I don't think you can go wrong. It's certainly not difficult to play it on the Wii and if you're a roleplayer I think it can be a lot of fun. |
Re: Zelda GCN
I got the Gamecube version on the first day it came out, but then took it back later because I thought the Wii version might be better to play. I've played a demo of the Wii version at least, and the control scheme seemed more fun that way.

Re: Zelda GCN
I was shooed out of the other Zelda thread since I have not yet finished the game, but I wanted to say that I'm much more impressed with it now that I've gotten further along. The ball & chain is my new favorite implement as I love to smash things. Also I recently discovered a whole section of the castle town that I had overlooked before, and I finally found out that you can actually redeem those little golden bugs for prizes.
The puzzles and hidden secrets still seem a pale imitation of prior Zelda games but I suspect this has more to do with age-related perception than anything else. After all there's nothing particularly clever about randomly bombing a pixilated wall in hopes of finding an old man with a heart container. |
Re: Zelda GCN
I really liked the idea of the 5th(?) dungeon, just a 'normal' house with people living in it. The ball & chain is nice to have, but I don't think it's a keeper like the hookshot and the boomerang are.
And sorry for shooing you out boss. ;) |
Re: Zelda GCN
I love the ball and chain. It's so fun to use. I just wanna break everything. And I love the Ice Temple. It feels less like a temple and more like a mansion :)
