Virtual Console Explodes.. Sega and Hudson

Well if 20 years of Nintendo games wasn't enough. Now we get Genesis games as well. :D

Quote:

Iwata also announced partnerships with Sega and Hudson to offer downloadable access to their classic games via Revolution's Virtual Console. Revolution owners will be able to relive their past gaming glories from the Sega Genesis console by playing a "best of" selection from more than 1,000 Genesis titles, as well as games sold for the TurboGrafx console (a system jointly developed by NEC and Hudson). These games join Revolution's access to 20 years of fan-favorite Nintendo games from the NES(R), Super NES(R) and Nintendo(R) 64 eras

O no, I meant it in the manner that for the most part, Nintendo didn't even talk about the Revolution.

Spoke a little about the controller apparently.

Said the Virtual Console would be akin to iTunes or something along the lines.

Something about being able to download original games over the Virtual Console.

And well... wait till e3 basically.

My guess just wanted all the Virtual Console stuff out of the way so they didn't need to touch on it again at e3.

I like the info being said. Hopefully with Sega and Hudson divulging their games for Ninty that other companies follow suit (hey, its quick easy profit for the companies)

true, hopfully tho nintendo signed some kinda deal with them, so that they dont go over to other networks like xbox live and let thier games be downloaded there too.

Re: Virtual Console Explodes.. Sega and Hudson

are the old games gonna be like...$2-$5 each?

Jonbo298 03-23-2006 08:32 PM

Re: Virtual Console Explodes.. Sega and Hudson

No pricing has been set yet but really hoping for just something subscription based.

I dont mind if other networks got old games also, as long as there was an incentive to buy the Rev version compared to Xbox Live or PNP.

What if they bring back the Pokemon Snap kiosks that would allow us to print stickers of our favorite in-game shots?

That's enough incentive for me to buy a Project Revolution.

Of course, I just repeated it, so....

Anyway, yay for the Virtual Console. Worth the purchase alone...

if they were free yea, it might be worth the purchase alone. but not having to pay for each game to download... thats not worth the purchase at all when you can already get em all free on the computer.

what will make the NINTENDOGO! worth the purchase is the NINTENDOGO! intself.

i really hope thats the name... i love saying that word now...

NINTENDOGO!!!!

NINTENDOGO!!!!

The issue with being able to get them already is.. the mass population doesn't know about it or how to obtain ROMs.

So for many people it will be a selling point even if not for people on this forum.

On that note, it doesn't seem like the deal with Sega and Hudson is exclusive. As I believe that, Sega is working with MS on the XBLA.

On that same note, much like XBLA, small developers will be able to sell their games over the virtual console.

No, it looks like there's no * command (which basically means, in regular expression, that "this character repeats a finite amount of times. I.E., all four letters.)

doesnt matter if they know how to get them or not, the fact is they are out there and always have been. that fact doesnt change just because of peoples ignorance.

but thats totally not the point. point is that being able to do it to me is just not at all worth the purchase all by itself... its like i didnt know that i could get the internet on laptops or pda's, so getting the internet on the psp was its main selling point and worth the purchase all by itself. (which is not the case because there are cheaper ways if that was the main point)

its a nice extra feature, to the main console (which is what should and will be the main selling point)

also i dont think nintendo will be trying to market this as a main selling point, if they did, i think they'd be living in the past a little too much. I think it'll be marketed along the same lines of xbox lives arcade. probably a little more tho.

Re: Virtual Console Explodes.. Sega and Hudson

People will be more familiar with Ninty's virtual console thing because they want to play the past games also (if they dont know how to for PC, etc..) and my guess is right on the box of each Rev/Nintendogo sold, it will have some snazzy thing saying "Play all your classic and favorite Nintendo games of the past!"

Null 03-24-2006 10:17 AM

Re: Virtual Console Explodes.. Sega and Hudson

yea i think it'll be on the box, and pointed out in thier interviews, and commercials, but after they list what the console is really all about.

this console is going to be about its new games, its control methods, its innovation. Its not going to be 'all' about its ability to play old games that have been out for a long time. thats a good, nice, extra feature that will be enjoyed. But not what the console is all about.

Jonbo298 03-24-2006 12:44 PM

Re: Virtual Console Explodes.. Sega and Hudson

I didnt mean to refer to it as the only way they will market the Rev, I'm just saying thats going to be one of the main highlighted things of what hte console can do.

Actual the point does change. Just because most of us can do it, doesn't mean everyone can or want to. There are folks who want these games. And you can see that simply by the fact that retro collection generally sell pretty well and if you go to malls or anything you will probably see those plug n play games that people go crazy for.

And again, your point with the PSP depends on the person. I had a friend who was going to buy either a PSP or a video iPod and she was leaning towards the PSP because unlike the iPod it did offer internet. Is that an everyday occurence? No, but it is possible.

And why shouldn't they market it as one of the system's biggest assests?

Sure they should and will market their own new games on the system.

But I can see some people's decision coming down to simply being able to play classics like the original Mario Bros or Sonic game again in addition to new Rev games.

Heck, I would go a step further and say I wouldn't be surprised if they offered some retro downloads as a compliment to buying their new games.

but your missing the point. she was going to buy one or the other, and got one because of a bonus feature.

what im saying is, the one bonus featue that makes it WORTH the price ALONE. im not saying no one would do that, but for one feature ALONE, lets take a PDA with internet $100, PSP with internet $300, and your getitng it for just the internet.... people might do this, but i have trouble seeing for that feature ALONE worth an extra $200 for no reason.

now add in the extra features that one wants, then the price because worth it for all the features it can do.. but something like that alone, dont think so.

one of the biggest assests or features, yes, thats exactly what i've been saying.

in total agreement, never argued anything different.

I could buy 3 Video Ipods to house my PC's 30,000 songs, or I could buy 180 PSPs to house my PC's 30,000 songs. That'd be crazy and I'd need tape.

I have a Turbo Grafx, how cool is that.

I'll get a list of them tomorrow, I know I have Keith Courage, Battle Axe 1 and 2, and this Dragon game.

My biggest fear is pricing. Not too long ago Nintendo was selling NES and SNES games for 30 bucks on the GBA. I dished out 30 bucks to play Super Mario World for my GBA, but only because it was portable. If Nintendo tries pulling that crap with the Rev. I won't be purchasing any games for it. But somehow, I get a feeling the crappy SNES and NES games will be like 5 dollars and the goods ones will go for 20 or 30 bucks.

But I said it once and I'll say it again, if emulation is your game you want a rev this console run. So far the Xbox has not impressed me and the PS3 looks like it will be the same. I mean, I don't want to play into biasisms, but the rev. is starting to look like it might be the console that gets Nintendo back on track.

Dyne 03-26-2006 03:50 AM

Re: Virtual Console Explodes.. Sega and Hudson

I would say they'd be a dollar each.

Still you'll probably get a bunch that are free as standard. Like 10 or so. That's my speculation. Then you have to pay for the rest.
