WTF?
I just saw this on IGN's PS3 site.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/668/668446p1.html I find this a little curious. It actually tries to get people to not buy and 360 and wait for a PS3. Thats a little rediculous and inprofessional for a commercial VG site, don't you think. I expect such things from fans and posters, but for a site and an editor to allow it is another thing. We've already seen a growing disinterest in videogames in the past few months, I don't think those that help form opinions should actively root against another system. Any thoughts? |
Re: WTF?
you should see some of the bull **** that Sony is saying about microsoft to get people not to buy one... LOL it's rediculous!

Re: WTF?
IGN Cube did the same thing for Rev. *shrug*

Re: WTF?
Eh, all in good fun...
Xbox360 posts a story with 10 reasons to buy it, PS3 posts a story with 10 reasons to wait for PS3... *shrug* |

Re: WTF?
Its all meant in good jest I'd imagine. I kinda laughed at each one that I read about the goods/bads of waiting or GET 360 NOW! :p

I believe EGM did the same thing a month or so ago. I don't really see a huge problem with it. |

i see nothing unusual about this, its the same stuff that goes on each gen with all the companies. |
Re: WTF?
Oh dear...was it 100 or 1000 reasons to get an Xbox? I laughed at most of the reasons :p

Re: WTF?
My problem isn't so much that the Sony editors posted "reasons to wait for the PS3" as that a lot of their reasons suck (for the record, I think the same about IGNCube's similar list, but this thread is about the one for PS3).
One of the reasons is that you can hook up your PS3 to two HDTV sets and play super widescreen. Come on now, let's get serious for a minute! That's about the lamest reason I've ever seen not only because so few people are going to have such a setup but because you can almost guarantee no developer will support it. You might as well brag about how the PS3 has enough processing power to autopilot your Learjet. Not that it really matters. No self-respecting gamer pays attention to IGN's opinions any more no matter which console they like. |
Re: WTF?
honestly tho, you are correct that almost no one will have that setup.... BUT.. if a game supports it, and even if you just use 2 widescreen monitors. or 2 small hd tv's. its an absolutly kick ass way to play. I've played some on PC with 3 monitors setup. (some FPS games and racing games tried out on it) its really one of the most amazing ways to play. specially with 3. angle the 2 outside ones so it looks like the screen is bending around you.
hehe. but no, it will be a very rarely used option if at all... However thats not what sony cares about it when they say that... even if it sways just 1 person for sony, its worth them typing that little sentence. this is business, and people just dont play clean or honestly in business. |
Re: WTF?
I love how their number 1 reason is that the PS3 will suppourt the Blue-Ray format, which holds 5x more space than Microsofts discs. Thats the best reason they could come up with? Havent they heard of multiple discs?
|
Re: WTF?
multiple disc gaming SUCKS. i dont know of anyone who wants to switch discs like we had to do with the PSX, i hated that.
however, i doubt games will be needing to ship on multiple discs. doubtul games will even come close to filling up a bluray disc IMO. but that reason isnt a bad reason... especially if bluray takes off as the standard for new DVD's... (which last i looked it seemed like it will be) at the prices the first bluray DVD players are going to come out at... that feature in PS3 is going to be VERY attractive.. its going to make many people buy the PS3 just for a bluray DVD player. |
Re: WTF?
Nothing ridiculous about a little video game 'nationalism' as my Uncle Chuck would say. Happens to the best of us. Some might argue it's what makes the world go round.

Blu-Ray will do to PS3 what DVD did for PS2, although maybe to a larger extent. Almost all of the major motion-picture studios have hopped on the 'Blu-Ray' ship...therefore after DVD's, movies will come on BRDs. So a year from now, Sony is marketing their Playstation 3. "its also a blu-ray player". Hmm. Well, lets check out how much the 'regular' Blu-Ray players are. Wow...quite expensive. Well, why not just get the Playstation 3, I mean it's also THE big-time game console. If they play their cards at the right time, Sony can open up PS3 to a HUGE audience, far bigger than PS2...due to Blu-Ray and the video industry. I'd say that's a pretty big deal... |

Not to mention blu-ray really isn't a big deal unless you have an HDTV... Which is what.......... 10-20% of all housholds? If HDTV's were a bit more common, DVDs were a bit more outdated, and the blu-ray had had a couple years to ripen on the high-end technology vine, it would definately be a big draw... As it is now, I could see it ranging from anywhere to a big draw, to a huge mistake... |
Re: WTF?
doesnt really matter what the advantage of bluray would be... once it starts taking over... less and less movies will get released on DVD, in favor of bluray instead.
while its true that its main feature would be directed towards HDTV's, one of its features is to put all the things on 1 bluray instead of multiple DVD's (2nd DVD of bonus features). people are eventually going to need a bluray DVD player, with or without a HDTV. |
Re: WTF?
or for all we know, Sony and other companies will still be bickering like little babies over HD-DVD and Blu-Ray 1-2 years from now and we get stuck with the bullsh*t 2 formats
|
Re: WTF?

Nah, Blu-Ray has far more support than HD-DVD...at some point, the companies that favor HD-DVD will have to jump ship...two formats cannot coexist in the home video market |

well i know the PS3 will read Blu-Ray discs and DVDs...so maybe all Blu-Ray players will feature DVD playback |

well...it already happened with VHS |
Re: WTF?
yes blu ray, or even HD DVD players would play all DVD's + thier new format.
in the same way a DVD drive could always read the CD format, so will the new formats, the previous stuff is built into them. |
