Be honest.

Re: How much sleep do you get.
I've really messed up my internal clock over the summer. I've been going to bed around 3:00-3:30 and getting up around 10:00-11:00 which equates to around 7-8 hours. Not enough for a 19 year-old.
Dyne, how much sleep should 19 year-olds like you and me get? Anyway, today was the first day back at school, so I'll have to change my sleeping habits. |
Re: How much sleep do you get.
When I have school: 2-4 hours a night on average. Sometimes a little more, sometime none at all.
|
Re: How much sleep do you get.
the average adult should get between 7-8 hours of sleep every 24 hours.
i get about 6-7 hours of sleep on weekdays because of school. on weekend i get about 8-10. |

Did you know adolescents (ages 11-22) absolutely need 9 1/2 hours of sleep every single night? I'm talking us, the majority of this board. I used to believe I only needed 8, and I wondered why I was tired during the day, I sometimes had memory loss, and sometimes I'd seem a bit vacant. I didn't know I was actually missing a whole hour and a half of sleep I should've been getting. If you get any less, on average as an adolescent, you'll never perform at maximum capacity. For example, your memory won't be up to par. Did you know that students who slept 40 minutes less got C's and D's in school, whereas students who got the extra 40 got A's and B's? On average. Set a normal sleep pattern, because it makes a difference. This message has been brought to you by Dyne. Now back to your regularily scheduled topic. P.S. Also, does anyone snore? And what position do you sleep in? I'm interested. |
Re: How much sleep do you get.
I'll believe that.
Generally I get 6-7 a night during the week and I can absolutly crash for 12 or 13 on the weekends (like 11 pm-12 pm) |
Re: How much sleep do you get.
Considering I never have any reason to be up early, I usually get around 8-9 hours of sleep...
|
Re: How much sleep do you get.
School can reduce sleeping hours to 2-5 hours. That tends to happen a lot. But usually, I get around 7-8 hours of sleep if I'm not doing something important.
|
Re: How much sleep do you get.
Most of this summer ive managed 7-8. Even more when I didnt have to go to work early.
|
Re: How much sleep do you get.
I don't snore, first of all.
And I usually sleep for about 8 hours. But I dont usually go to sleep until about 4am or 6am during the summer, because I'm usually on the phone. |
Re: How much sleep do you get.
About 7-8 hours during work in the summer...
and I expect about at least 10 hours once I go back to university. |
Re: How much sleep do you get.
I guess I'm the only insomniac here. :(

I don't think that's consistent for everyone. Different people have different needs. I, for example, get 7 hours a sleep every night and I feel good during the day. I have great grades...All A's, actually. And during the summer when I go to bed, I wake up after almost exactly 7 hours of sleep, and I can't go back to sleep. It's just how much sleep I'm naturally programmed to get. |
Re: How much sleep do you get.
They did an experiment with fruit flies and the amount of sleep they got. Apparently there were those that slept very little yet functioned just as well as those who got the normal fruit fly amount. The thing is...they had shorter life spans. So a person could sleep 3 hours a night and feel fine. Just might not live as long. Yeah, I'm screwed.
The article was on yahoo a few months ago I believe. |

But of course you'll feel fine with 7 hours because you've gotten used to it. The point of the study was to let people know that the majority, if not all, teens should be getting about 9 hours of sleep a night on average for maximum performance. Also, if you're not sleepy enough, you should be exercising more and rigorously and forcing yourself to sleep earlier. It's all relative in the end. Perhaps not needing to sleep so much tells you you're out of shape? But I digress. Go ahead and stick with 7 hours if you're fine with it. Just know there might be a window of improvement for your body and you might not know it. |
Re: How much sleep do you get.
I dunno, I get a lot of excersize. Every day but Sunday, usually. However, I might try going to bed earlier just to see what happens. I mean, it's like when you are taking medication. You may still feel bad and think the medecine isn't working, but as soon as you stop the sickness gets a lot worse. I might feel great now, but feel awesome if I slept an extra two hours.
But just out of curiosity, how many hours are people older than 22 supposed to get? |
