V for Vendetta

Re: V for Vendetta
The obvious social criticism seems awfully heavy handed to me. Hopefully the full delivery will be a little less pedestrian in the entirety of the film.

i think this movie will either be really good or really bad...as with the matirx, there won't be an in-between. so far i would say it's looking quite good. |

I don't really mind non-conformist films that have a message, I just like them to be artfully done, like Dr. Strangelove or American Psycho. From what I've seen of this film from the trailer, it doesn't look all that subtle or artful. |

I 've just re-watched the trailer and I have to say that if the trailer reflects the movie, the movie will be aimed squarely at the current administration. |
Re: V for Vendetta
![]() Gonna have to read it first. I never read or watched From Hell. How was the transition to film for that? Because I know his The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen didn't turn into such a hot movie. |

I doubt that really matters. This movie is being handled by an entirely different team, so I wouldn't pre-judge it based on previous movies inspired by his books... /me shrugs and walks away |
Re: V for Vendetta
I'm actually a big fan of Alan Moore. A lot of movies have been based from his works like From Hell, LOEG, Road to Perdition, etc. The one that I am most looking forward to is The Watchmen, a graphic novel that is considered by many to be one of the the form's greatest works. I just hope it doesn't get screwed up.

Re: V for Vendetta
Don't look now, but the movie is done by the Wachowski Brothers. Hopefully, they will use Alan Moore's original dialogue instead of writing some of their own.
But on the other hand, the movie has Hugo Weaving as V. So it can't be all bad. P.S. I didn't like Watchmen. It was a mostly good book, but I think it fell a bit short of being the be all end all of superhero comic books as Alan Moore once said he intended it to be. |
Re: V for Vendetta
Just finished reading V for Vendetta. Great book. I do hope the movie is as good.

Or hopefully the movie will be really good and they'll just leave it at one, and wont try to come up with some of their own storylines to make a sequel. Natalie Portman gives me hope for the movie though. |
Re: V for Vendetta
Well it's based off a 300+ page graphic novel so assuming movie can stick almost exact to it and then be done. Alan Moore separates himself from all the movies based on his work so it's all up to the directors to make it good. If just stick to book should be mighty fine.
Visually Reloaded and Revolutions were fine. Just horrible plot. So they have a good story already for this movie. EDIT: Apparently Moore hates the script whereas David Lloyd (the artist) likes it. *shrug* But suppose to be most faithful adaptation of a Moore book. |

The sequels just didn't have the awesome that the first had. But anyway that's a discussion for another thread I suppose. |
Re: V for Vendetta
Well sticking that fight in there is part of the plot/story/whathaveyou. Meh...don't want to make it look like I thought those two movies were any good....I'll leave that for my Batman Begins bashing. ;)

Re: V for Vendetta
i want to see this movie, it looks cool.

Re: V for Vendetta
Saw it today. Very good.

Re: V for Vendetta
Excellent movie. I love Natalie Portman.. she is such a good actresses...
I learned that they only have one take and one take only to film her getting her hair cut. I bet part of her was really crying because she was losing her hair ... hehe...thats half the battle. and the whole subliminal messages about totalitarianism or the criticisms of governments whether it be U.S. or not....I don't care about... It's based off a novel, and now it's a movie... This movie will probably spark huge political discussions... |
Re: V for Vendetta
The movie is so good, that I sell tickets to teenagers under 17.
I guess that's my little way of sticking it to the man. |
Re: V for Vendetta
There were definately things about this movie that I enjoyed, but I think the editors did a piss poor job putting it together...they could have cut at least 30 minutes out of that movie that would have made it more enjoyable.
I also think it takes itself too seriously...I mean, these are pretty basic political concepts and I'm not really into politics. It just isnt an eye-opener...which is OK, but I think the directors, editors etc. played it out as if it was. Some of it was entertaining, some of it was enjoyable, some of it was a little thought provoking but ultimately this is "just" another decent movie. If the movie looks interesting to you, I do suggest seeing it...waiting until it's a rental would probably be best. |
Re: V for Vendetta
i just saw it a few hours ago...very good, i liked it...although with the book(s) i'm reading now - Ender's Shadow saga - it kinda goes the same with the subject of the books, with a totalitarianist government and all that...so yeah, it was gooood.

I like movies.
Saw V for Vendetta. Really like the script, the cinematography was fab. They needed to cut down some of the movie, it was a bit long. It was definitely cool though. |
Re: V for Vendetta
I also saw it last weekend, without even knowing what it was or who made it. I liked it very much. :D
Half-way through I finally recognized Hugo Weaving's voice. Nathalie was fine, though 1 or 2 lines came out wrong ("I'm starving!"). Too much blood. I hated the blood. It wasn't even 'cool' violence...... just some slashing with liters of blood bursting out. I LOVED the last scene with all the people coming up. ^-^ |

As for V, it was good, but in the end it never came close to capturing its potential. This film could have been epic, but thanks to shotty editing and the fact that it blanched at its own content, a lot of the power was removed. |
Re: V for Vendetta
Epic? Naah....

I was thinking more along the lines of 2001 in effect. |
Re: V for Vendetta
Then I still think "naah". The Matrix is epic, Donnie Darko is epic, Jurassic Park is epic. I hope that's what you also mean.
I think a movie like V for Vendetta is too much..... caught in between a simple action movie and a good story.... or something like that. Maybe when they totally changed the action.... and maybe some less focus on Portman.... hm I don't know. :) |
