Re: NDS and PSP games
*glances up at screen from playing all the old nintendo and sega games on psp*
ds and psp games? they have other games besides the emulators? huh. ah well. *goes back to playing emu's* |
Re: NDS and PSP games
I don't know what people are talking about. The PSP lineup's pretty bad. I'd be disappointed right about now if they never released the swaploit. Whereas, there's definitely some games on the Nintendo DS I want.
|
Re: NDS and PSP games
who ever said the psp lineup wasnt bad? both DS and PSP lineups blow it big time. thats to be expected tho, handhelds are usually worse in thier first year then consoles are for good games.

I remember when I was buying my PSP, and the clerk pushed me to buy "Smart Bomb." What a joke. |
Re: NDS and PSP games
Developers need time and experience developing for each handheld. So don't expect mind boggling or awesome games just yet.

pfffft, im not buying that excuse. How many times have we seen awsome and mind boggling games at a systems launch? Super Mario 64 instantly comes to mind.....but there are others. As for the games on each system, PSP has all the mainstream crap that you think of when you think of the Playstation, and none of the good stuff. NDS has all kinds of origional stuff that might or might not be good...thats my take on it anyways. |
Re: NDS and PSP games
mainstream is a very powerful word.
PSP burns DS in the Sports department, and DS burns PSP in platforms. Basically... each handheld will have it's followings and fans. |
Re: NDS and PSP games
I soooo care about sports games *humps EA* ;) :p (kidding with a mixture of sarcasm :eyes: )
Both handhelds have been doing tougher overall. More people are modding PSP because its easier, more 3rd party accessories obviously because PSP is video also, etc... I think what will happen is Sony will cut a decent chunk of the handheld market because well, this time its a company that has more then games to fallback on if for some 'screw'all reason they fail the handheld market unlike Sega and others who just have little funds to fallback on if it fails. DS will have the quirky games everyone says is the biggest piles of crap but others will proclaim as awesome (Nintendogs comes to mind). PSP will have all the PS2 ports and eventually people are gonna complain more and more about less original PSP games. But DS has that syndrome also. Nintendo needs to get fresh games, not rehash. Mario 64DS was great and all but come on Nintendo, your better then that. The new Mario game is shaping to be awesome but I'm starting to get slowly sick of all the rehashes for overpriced fees *cough GBA Classics series* for 5-20 year old games. Both in the end will win. PSP will be successful because of its video capability whereas Nintendo will be successful because of the way you can play games in a new way. Granted, touch screen has been around for quite awhile but not implemented heavily into games. |
Re: NDS and PSP games
Once Nintendo starts dropping the franchise titles, I think you'll see an increase in popularity for the DS.
GTA on the PSP would be cool, but after playing San Andreas..... Let's just say, Zelda will probably hit home for more handheld users then say, sports titles, or even GTA. I'm not saying that the PSP is doomed or going anywhere, but in the long run, I think the DS is going to be in the limelight the most. But, who the hell cares? You can emulate games on the PSP. No one is going to mention that in official sales comparisons, but if I had to base my purchase on that fact alone, I'd get the PSP hands down. |
Re: NDS and PSP games
Reading about emulation on PSP, I was about to go out the door and buy one but I had to resist..have to save money for now. But damnit, I will have one eventually

Re: NDS and PSP games
When it's all said and done, it's all about the fans. Individually, some of you guys may not like how PSP is just getting PS2 ports.... but the main difference is that it's handheld. Ever want to jack a car or beat some whores up in GTA? Well now you can do it anywhere... with no wires. Thats the incentive... not that it's just a port, but it's now portable.
Every system will have their ports and rehashes, and every person has their own tastes. Posting the games for each individual handheld is getting old. Reasons for buying the PSP: 1. Emulation 2. Playing fave PS2 titles portably 3. MP3's and Movies Reaons for buying the DS: 1. Original and interesting line up 2. Innovative gameplay w/ touchscreen 3. Nintendo classics and favorites played portably. Some of you may want new games for the handheld, but others appreciate the rehashes and the ports you see on the handhelds, simply because it's PORTABLE. |
Re: NDS and PSP games
Only the PSP isn't really that portable because of the bad battery life. That's the only thing about it that I don't really like.
Do they, or are they planning on, making an accessory that lets you hook the PSP into a cigarette lighter in your car? That would be awesome. |
Re: NDS and PSP games
The travel charger has been out since 10 days before the PSP came out in the U.S.
And theres a Pelican Extend Battery that doubles the life of PSP's. I have it now, and I play it forever without charging. Especi' with the emu's. |
Re: NDS and PSP games
No wires? GTAPSP is GTA3 with a few touch ups. There are plenty of wires, especially after playing the two games that progressed the series considerably. I don't care if it's portable or not, if I want to indulge that much time into the game, I'm going to go home and do it in the much refined San Andreas.

However that doesn't mean it won't have some of the nice refined features that GTA:SA had... GTA got better due to various gameplay additions, not a change in city.... Well I guess in SA it was somewhat better due to the sheer huge-ass-ity of the gameplay area, but still :> Oh and I'd like to end on a note that I got probably halfway through SA before my attention shifted to other games, and so far I havn't gone back... |
Re: NDS and PSP games
the argument that PSP is a portable PS2 and DS is original, is a silly argument, both have thier ports, DS has Mario64, and PSP has something i guess. Thier portable systems, thoes are the kind of games portable systems get. always been that way.
as far as GTPSP, i heard the same as DH, same place, different missions. |
Re: NDS and PSP games
PSP is PS 1.8 ;) Whereas DS is N63 1/3 (if you can guess why I say 63 1/3 and not 63, you get a +rep :D )
|
Re: NDS and PSP games
well i'd say its because its graphics arentttt quite up to n64's, but im guessing you'll give me another reason. :p
|
Re: NDS and PSP games
That also but I hoped that by saying 63 1/3 and not 63 wouldve given the hint that I already know they arent 100% N64 looking :p

Re: NDS and PSP games
I think PSP's only actual straight-up PORT is Tony Hawk Underground 2 Remix (which I guess, as the title implies, is a bit of a remix with some added stuff? I dunno)...
It does have games that are from series that have existed on PS for awhile... Wipeout, Ridge Racer... But they're still new versions of each game... And yes, to go into more detail on GTA for PSP, it's called Liberty City Stories (I think), and you play as Tommy Vercetti, who was one of the guy's that gave you missions in GTA3 (the one at that restaurant who's mom was always yelling at him)... It takes place I believe in the late 90s in Liberty City, so it makes sense to use you same city layout as in 3... However like I mentioned I did hear they might add some new areas to go, of course there will be all new missions... And they are adding some of the stuff that the series has progressed with through VC and SA, such as Motorcycles and uhhh I dunno what else... But yes, PSP is far from just a portable PS2... Infact I believe I read somewhere that Sony was really ENCOURAGING developers to make totally new games so the PSP can't be labeled as such... |
Re: NDS and PSP games
They both have lots of great games. The arguements are silly.
However, talking about ports on a handheld being that much different than console ports because of portability is a bit stupid... no way I'd own a game for each system just because I wanted it to be portable... I'd get something else that I haven't experienced before, and then I'll just play the regular game on my home system once I wasn't on the road. Most people would do this as well. |
