Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Sold out? Right now my Ebgames has about 10 off the shelves left. But thats after the mass hype launch.
In any case, I own a PSP... I know Dark Samurai owns one..... thats 2 so far... anybody else? |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Sold out, eh? There's plenty left here in Canada. Hop the border and come on over.
|
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
I'm getting one as soon as I can get my hands on one... Called around every store I could think of and they're all sold out...
But I know for a fact the place I'll play it the most would be my house... seems kinda silly getting a portable and just playing it in my house, but that's how I roll... Update for fun: The stores apparently got a shipment in today, and away I go! |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Yeah I play when I'm on the go and even inside my house. I don't feel like bringing my ps2 everywhere I am in the house....
My ebgames has about 10 units of the PSP, DH.... |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Yeah, my Target has a whole case full of them. I was relieved to see they're not all sold out. Someone here had said something about them being out of stock all summer, I don't think that'll be the case at my retailer. Hopefully around June I can buy one.

Along with Lumines and a very convenient used copy (perfect condition) of Wipeout Pure ($31.95) *stares anxiously as it charges* |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Im jealous :(
Make sure you post impressions |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
I'd take it as an offense when someone trades in a brand new game for a new system. I saw a used copy of NFS2 or whatever it was for the DS.

Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Hey, the reason the PSP's aren't fully sold out is because they took the european launch units and added it to the NA launch.
Good for us, bad for the UK. |

Either way, Wipeout was one of the games I wanted to buy and most people say it's the best launch game (and a game that revitalizes the series... Which I've actually never played before this one, but hey that's what people say :p )... Anyways the reason PSP isn't sold out is simply because it's not pushing an amazing amount of units at the moment... As most sites say, it was a good launch, but nothing spectacular... DS had a head start, PSP launched in the 'off-season'... The first real 'battle' will be this holiday season... |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Get it on.

I think you meant:
Bring it on. Unless that was an inside joke between you and Deathshand relating to Marvin Gaye's 1973 sexually and romantically charged hit, Let's Get It On. |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Hehe didn't even notice my mistake... but Get it on sounds cool as well.

Re: Where do you play your PSP?
No no no, the reason the PSP hasn't sold out is because Sony shipped a surplus amount to the NA therefore delaying the EURO launch.
Sony had originally intended 500,000 units to NA. It sold that much in the first 2 days, and according to numbers is already reaching close to 750,000. If Sony had gone with their original launch plan, PSP's would be sold out everywhere, however wouldn't be selling a lot of them. This was a good move on their part. Not being a sell out isn't a bad thing. It just means they had a lot more units to satisfy the demand. If they originally shipped out 500,000 to NA.... anybody who didn't have a pre-order would be finished. But they shipped 1,000,000 and thats about 350,000 extra units as of today for off-the shelf purchasing. So the surplus of units to the NA caused good sales, and encouraged even more considering it wasn't sold out. Hence.... sites saying the PSP did well but was not a spectacular sell out. I guaruntee they will not sell out in EURO either, only because they will be shipping out more than what they planned for Euro.... from 500,000 units to 1,000,000..... so everyone will have their share... pre-order or not. |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Hmm... IGN had said something about Sony claiming PSP would sell one million in two days.
But then again, IGN's run by a bunch of idiots. |

Now by no means are the PSP sales horrible, but I think everyone was expecting a bit more from the outrageously sexy handheld brought to you by the runaway leader of the console market... Just nobody be too quick to write off PSP as another Game Gear or Neo Geo Pocket Color... I can't help but wonder though, if PSP had launched with only 500,000 units and sold out, would people look at the launch as more of a success than they are with the 1mil shipped and 600,000-700,000 sold? *strokes beard* Alls I know is that PSP is amazing and has been thoroughly entertaining me for the past few days, and if it dies off after only a couple years I'm gonna have to bust some heads... |

I think anyone who is writing off PSP as another game gear or neo geo pocket color would be an idiot. Neo Geo isn't a household name like Sega or Sony, so that's obviously why they failed, and the reason Sega's system failed was mainly because it was released at the wrong time. There wasn't as big of a market in gaming as there is now, especially with the older gamers that are willing to spend big bucks for better graphics. Back then, the majority of people buying handheld systems was teens and adults buying for kids, and obviously the better pricepoint and name-power that is Nintendo GameBoy ruled supreme. |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
3 words guaruntee PSP will be a long-term success:
Grand Theft Auto |

it dont matter what you prefer, or what I prefer the people prefer GTA, and that is what will guaruntee PSP's success |

Sonic was pretty popular in the 90s as well, and Sega still didn't succeed. I don't think one franchise alone will make PSP a success, I think it's the amount of franchises they have that will make it a success. |

Then a lot of people had Vice City so they didn't feel the need to buy San Andreas... I think when a game has a name as big as GTA, people will buy it even if they end up playing it sitting around their house 99% of the time... Unless it sucks I guess... Which is always a possibility considering they won't be able to recreate a game with as large an area as they can on consoles... |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Well, I realize that a lot of people still bought the sequels, what I'm saying is a lot of people might not pay an extra 350 bucks to get a new portable system to play one new game a GTA. A sequel is a lot different because it is a new game on a console that the person already owns, so the cost factor is less.
It's also still to be determined what market there is for GTA on the run. Most of the GTA fans I know are casual gamers who play games in their spare time, but I'm 90% sure none of them would buy a handheld console. I realize that the market for GTA is HUGE, but there is a large difference between portable gamers and console gamers. |

I'm not saying that GTA on PSP wouldn't be a killer app, or move a lot of systems, because it would, but I think it's crazy to assume that it alone could guarantee success for Sony's system, or any handheld system. In my mind, Sony's system is already guaranteed success because of the PlayStation name, the sleek design, and the number of quality games available for it, not just GTA. |

Did you honestly think that I meant that GTA AND GTA ONLY would be the reason for PSP's success? C'mon now...you knew what I meant. If all else fails, GTA will save it. If it ever comes to that. GTA is sorta like a safety net...with the PSP having a 99% chance of NOT falling. |
Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Fortunately the DS has 2 safety nets: Zelda and Pokémon. :)
