SIN CITY

IGN reviews Sin City and titles it , "Pure entertainment with insanely cool visuals. The most faithful comic adaptation of all time!"

Is anyone else excited about SIN CITY? I'm definitely seeing this opening night!

TEASER:

Well no one seemed to care much about it when I posted the trailer way back when, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. Never read the comic, but I hear it's fantastic as well.

I like Jessica Alba more as a brunette.

Re: SIN CITY

I recently just read all the comics to prepare. After reading them and then watching the trailer again its amazing how I can tell exactly what part each little snippet is from. Though the movie does seem to be heavy on color compared to the comics...and lacking in the nudity...though no breasts means even less penis. I may even *gasp* pay money to go see this movie in the theater.

I've been keeping up with this movie for a while.

It's my "must see" movie of the year, right up there with A Scanner Darkly.

Re: SIN CITY

I've had a bit of a Jessica Alba fetish since Idle Hand came out way back in the day. Oh, and she was in Dark Angel too. She's so hot.

But yeah. I will definately be seeing this movie.

Ginkasa 03-30-2005 09:53 PM

Re: SIN CITY

You know, I've been a semi-fan of Bruce Willis since I saw The Sixth Sense. I don't really remember many movies of his I might have seen before hand...

I liked Unbreakable, too. He's just a fun guy to watch. I'm excited about Sin City.

The look of the film is interesting of course. I'm interested to see how the general public will take such a stylized film. Typically audiences seem to stay away from anything that could be even slightly different from the normal formula. Hopefully Sin City will be one of those exceptions that explodes with popularity and changes the film industry for the better. Or something.

Yep...

Re: SIN CITY

Those that have read the books know that this movie is going to stir up a lot of controversy. I love the books, just so you know, but this movie is going to get a lot of bad media attention. The books are BRUTALLY violent and have no characters with even a shred of moral values. But then again thats the point.

As for it being the next Dick Tracy... well if Dick Tracy involved dismemberment, decapitations, sexism, perverted clergy, cannibalism, rape and valuminous nudity (which the movie does have minus Alba) then it would be the next Dick Tracy.

I can't wait fo this movie. I will be seeing the first matinee available on Friday just so I can see an untouched print. The books changed the way I looked at the comic medium and what it could do and I was always sure that they would make a great movie, but I never thought anyone would have the balls to make an honest interpretation. Thank you Robert Rodriguez.

I recommend that everyone who sees this movie reads the books its based on. If you like them, I also recommend the following:

Preacher
Earth X
The Watchmen ***a must read***
The Dark Knight Returns ***another must read that I am waiting to be made into a movie**

EDIT: For those of you that see the movie for Jessica Alba, you'll soon forget who she is once you see Carla Gugino butt ass nekid. :D

Re: SIN CITY

Good call strangler.

I've read the sin city books but none of frank miller's other books.

I want to bad.

And, I'm definately seeing this movie on opening weekend. I've been drooling over this movie for a while. gah

Re: SIN CITY

Recently read The Dark Knight Returns. Might have Klaus Janson as one of my professors in the fall. *cross fingers*

As for the movie, just wanna be sure I read everything it's based on. Are these the only ones or are there more of the shorter shorties in it too?

- The Customer Is Always Right
- The Hard Goodbye
- The Big Fat Kill
- That Yellow Bastard

I pretty much read everything including the shorter stories except for Family Values and Hell and Back.

um, I guess I didnt make myself clear...

Style wise...the way the movie looks like moving comic book. That's how I wanted to labell it the 'modernized Dick Tracy'

I know nothing about the story or premise of Sin City, and I never pretended to...

I love the cast so I am definitely watching it...

Josh Hartnett!! *hyperventilates*
Bruce Wilis!! *hyperventilates*
Jessica Alba!! *hyperventilates*
Devon Aoki!! *hyperventilates*

I think you get my drift ;)

Too bad it only comes out in May for us here. Love the song in the trailer, makes me want to grab my air guitar and scare the hell out of the boyfriend :p

Re: SIN CITY

I own the Dark Knight Returns...and it is fantastic. Probably my favorite comic novel that I have ever read. I was hooked from the moment I read the introduction. It sent shills down my spine.

I havn't heard of those other books Strangler, but I'm definatly going to hit ebay and look for them.

And yeah...Jessica Alba is one of the sexiest women on earth.

Professor S 04-01-2005 04:07 PM

Re: SIN CITY

Just so you guys know, The Watchmen (a quality/legendary graphic novel I pointed out before) is now in pre-production, accoreding to IMDB, with a budget estimated at over $100,000,000.

This makes me happy :)

Just saw the movie. It's pretty ridiculous. Entertaining throughout definitely. Elijah Wood rules...

Perfect Stu 04-02-2005 12:30 AM

Re: SIN CITY

the movie is f***ing BAD. ASS.

It is ridiculous, as my man Germy said. It grabs you by the balls and just entertains. I suppose if violence isnt your thing, you might wanna stay away from this title...but I watched it with 3 lady friends (just 3 lady friends :stud: ) and although they thought it was a little "much", they liked the movie.

Marv is now one of my more favourite characters of recent memory.

Acebot44 04-02-2005 12:36 AM

Re: SIN CITY

Yeah, Marv is my favorite from the film. It was great!

NO SPOILERS WITHOUT WARNING - The Strangler

DeathsHand 04-02-2005 04:00 AM

Re: SIN CITY

Elijah Wood's character was the weirdest of the bunch...

I like that, you're hired...

It was quite a movie, however it's always a struggle for me to enjoy a movie with the limited legroom them damn stadium-seated theaters have... U.U

MuGen 04-02-2005 04:05 AM

Re: SIN CITY

THE MOVIE IS ROCK HARD ASS KICKER!!

I just saw it, and was blown away. The occasional ghost white film technique made it a comic feel and it gave an essence of being based on a comic.

Marv and Miho are my two favorite characters, cuz they are complete pwnage.

Acebot44 04-02-2005 12:29 PM

Re: SIN CITY

***Spoilers***

Can anyone tell me what the point of the Nazi symbols and Josh Hartnett's character was? Was it to liike show that Sin city will always be full of corruption or something along those lines?

Oh, and the hookers' rooftop shooting made me cringe and laugh at the same time. I hope it was made to look so....weird.

***End Spoilers***

Re: SIN CITY

About Josh Hartnett's characterrrr

*****SPOILERRRRRRRR*******

People were discussing his character on IMDB as well, the beginning scene was setting up that he was a contract killer, the ending scene was showing that that back-stabbing ho was getting what she deserved...

*eenddddd zpsoilers*

yup...

Ginkasa 04-02-2005 02:29 PM

Re: SIN CITY

Were the Josh Hartnett scenes taken from one (or more) of the graphic novels, or were those made for the movie?

Anyway, I saw it last night. It was neat. It was also my first R movie without a parental person accompanying me and all..

ID...

Anyway, I liked it. T'was fun. Marv is cool. S'all.

Re: SIN CITY

******SPOILER*********

I thought that the intro scene was perfect to set the tone and give the viewer a good idea of what kind of place Sin City was. The ending, I'd say, was more of a bookend to finish off the movie instead of a reasurrance that the whore was going to get what was coming to her. It started off the way it ended.

and strangler, you're right...Carla Gugino has a very nice rack

didnt quite make me forget about Jessica Alba, though ;)

Re: SIN CITY

Well first off, I personally prefer other Bat-books like Year One and the Long Halloween over The Dark Knight Returns. Something about that book just didn't rub me the right way. And also, I read it after Batman Beyond and for some reason that seems to be Batman's future in my mind...

Anyhow onto the movie, it was great... awesome.. well you get the drift. It was such a great movie and some awesome characters. I liked Merv a lot. Dwight/Dwayne was a good character as well. And Miho kicked all types of ass. I also liked the guy who got shot with the arrow.. funnie scene

Blackmane 04-03-2005 07:35 PM

Re: SIN CITY

That was a fun movie, and I liked the craziness of it all. I thought the Elijah Wood's character, though weird, was really tight. Marv was cool too.
