PSP Launch!

Since my ebgames isn't doing the midnight thing, I will be at the Mall early morning waiting for opening as with a lot of guys who want to buy the PSP tomorrow. Schoolboys will have to wait until the end of the day or play hooky to pick this goody up early.

I expect a lot of feedback from this forum, getting our hands on the PSP for the first time in a long time! :D

Re: PSP Launch!

not an impression of my own, but i finally took a look at one at the store that had one out on display. and its quite an impressive feeling device, probably the most comfortable handheld unit i've ever played. that was my major complain with ones like the GBC and original gb, i never liked holding them, hands were too close together.

I got a PSP with Ridge Racers and DarkStalkers...

I gotta say... that is one sexy handheld, with the uglyness of your fingerprints :p

I'm satisfied with what I got today...

Re: PSP Launch!

Still thinking if i want to get a PSP now, (have to order it soon before they run out)

or my graphics card now and a psp later.

im getting a bit over $600 on me tax return, and i want to get myself something big with that money...

but if i get the psp now, i'll be very dissapointed if it cant run emulators on it. (altho im pretty sure it will) biggest thing for me with the psp is the emulators, i hope to be able to play NES, SNES, Genesis, GB, GBA, MAME games on it.

*sits and ponders*

I'd wait a while to buy a PSP null. There aren't that many games for it anyway.

OMG I want one of these. So much more than I want a DS.

It's so hot. ANd darkstalkers looks freaking awesome.

MuGen 03-24-2005 02:20 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

I LOVE MY PSP! I have some GT4 songs and FF7 songs on it already. Darkstalkers looks insane for it as well.

My smoke breaks @ work now consist of smoke and ravanging Morrigan w/ Demitri.

Re: PSP Launch!

me and a friend went up to best buy few hours ago, and thoes psp's were selling like mad. so he decided to go ahead and get one.

honestly i love this thing. i WILL be getting one, just not sure when i'll pick it up. the screen is mad beautiful, even after seeing the videos i had no idea it would look THAT good. everything is so bright colorful and sharp. I was playin his wipeout game for a while. :)

i cant wait to see what some of the old games like punch out look like on that screen. cuz emulators can make the games look better then they did originally, and that psp screen has a pretty good resolution on it for its size.

Re: PSP Launch!

The more I look at this the more I want it. This is the sexiest damn machine ever.

How much does it cost, though? The only thing I could find on the net were these big bundle deals that cost 400 dollars. I want to know the price of a PSP by itself.

You don't know how much it costs? tsk tsk...

It's only available in the value pack (not the bundles ebgames and gamestop force you to buy which come with bunches of crummy games), which comes with headphones, a case deal, 32mb memory stick, and a couple other things...

$250...

But I'm guessing after the launch craze they will release a non-bundle for saaay $200... But I dunno...

Re: PSP Launch!

Gameinformer said they are launching "PSP Solo" near Christmas.

includes:
PSP
earbuds
charger
32mb memory stick duo
$175 msrp

EDIT: the real cost cutter was then soft gel carrying case and the Spider Man 2 movie. Case valued at $20.00 and the SM2 movie valued at $29.00

Vampyr 03-25-2005 11:36 AM

Re: PSP Launch!

Christmas?! :wtf:

That's insane. I want one for my birthday, but I don't want all that crap with it. I just want a PSP.

Oh well...time to start saving up I guess.

Null 03-25-2005 11:59 AM

Re: PSP Launch!

Then it's crap.

Re: PSP Launch!

most of it your gunna need anyway. i mean i think you'll end up needing a case, spiderman you can do without, but its under 20 anyway, and thats really the only thing. What else besides that do you get with the current bundle that you'd want to take out to save money?

MuGen 03-25-2005 12:33 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

nothing really..... cleaning cloth keeps my psp shiny....strap keeps it with me.... case protects it... headphones help with sound, while in busy areas...spiderman2 was a good deal but not needed... charger obviously a must have....

Vampyr 03-25-2005 12:50 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

Well...I think I'm going to save up and ask my parents to buy half of it for my birthday, and I'll pay the other half.

MuGen 03-25-2005 01:04 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

It's a great machine, and the battery life isn't as bad as I feared.

My day yesterday consisted of the following:

Playing Darkstalkers for 20 minutes.
Go eat, and play some more afterwards.... about 5 minutes.
Played some more when we got outside for about 10 minutes.
Then we decided to chill inside my car and watch Spiderman 2 (about 2 hours long)
Played some more Darkstalkers another 20 minutes.

All this without charging... and I had about 3.5 hours left of battery life. Thats pretty darn good.

Vampyr 03-25-2005 01:13 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

How do you put music on it?

Can you put like MP3's?

MuGen 03-25-2005 01:43 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

Connect it to computer using usb cable. it comes up as a Removable Disk... drag mp3's into the folder.

Yup!

Null 03-25-2005 01:50 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

yea, its a very very nice piece of hardware. And battery life depends on the game, but its been exagerated so much to make the psp look bad. just like thoes fake videos of games shooting out, when you can see thier finger was on the eject button and they were holding it upside down.
Battery life will get better, developers will program ways to save power and i have no doubt sony will make a new batter pack you can buy that has longer life then the current battery pack.

MuGen 03-25-2005 01:53 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

Pelican is releasing a 25 hour battery for the PSP that will go for $100

But depending on what your doing, it'll probably be around 15 hours.

I strongly suggest anyone who is planning to hold movies and music to invest in a larger memory stick. I have a couple of songs but left about 8megs on the default 32meg to deal with game saves (like the PS2)

Blackmane 03-25-2005 02:37 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

Sounds like its doing really well for launch.

But, like others said, it may be nice to get a lot of that stuff in a bundle, but I'm not interested in headphones, Spiderman 2, or a strap. The only things I would want is the charger, and maybe the case. But, its not a horrible deal either, so I'm still holding out.

Also, I don't have disposable income until summer rolls around.

No Headphones? How do you expect to get a good gaming experience on plane rides or on noisy bus rides? or even just in a noisy place...

sigh, i have a problem, new gizmos always get me. i broke down and bought a psp on my way home from work bout 10min ago.

Re: PSP Launch!

yea yea. i just need to get a little wireless transmitter to plug into mynetwork so i can play online with it.

MuGen 03-25-2005 04:27 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

You don't need to plug into it.....

The PSP has wireless wi-fi and online. You can either play with people WiFi feets from you or you can use a Wireless router hotspot to go online... no cables.

Null 03-25-2005 04:48 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

you misunderstood, i mean my home network doesnt use wireless. and instead of changing my whole network into wireless, im going to get a cheap wireless hub, plug it into the empty port on my network hub, thereby making a wireless transmitter for my house, i then could also just disable that port when nothing in the house is using the wireless connection.

Best Buy can't hire me soon enough.

As soon as I get hired, I promised myself I'd get a discount towards a PSP. Without Wayne Gretzky's crap hockey game.

Too bad no games really appeal to me. I might just pick up acid.

Re: PSP Launch!

Is there or will there be a browser for it? My interest in DS returned when I heard about the PDA software. I don't wanna just buy the system for the games since those I'll eventually be able to play other ways.

Null 03-25-2005 08:51 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

sonys going to release software for it, i dont remember exactly what all that included, but i think a browser was part of it.

Well, I practically HAVE to get one now...it just wouldn't be right not too, would it?

I mean, I have to help out our economy, be patriotic, and support the advancement of technology. It would be almost disrespectful not to buy one, wouldn't it?

Null 03-25-2005 11:24 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

lol. i found a site that talks about it, it was from that buggy version that leaked a while back, sony is creatiing it, obviously it wasnt ready at that time. but it will have....

Web browser
Email
Word Processor
Spreadsheet.
calculator
a few games. most likely small games like a card game or something like the ipod has.

obviously everyone woudl now be thinking how do you use thoes without any way of typing, well its said they're making some kind of keyboard thing for the psp as well.

now a while back they had shown that thing that plugs into the top of the psp, its clear and you tap the letters like a touch screen that you want to use, or it could very well be a smal l fold up keyboard that you plug into it.

Either way, will be nice to have the email and browser, i could care less about the 2 office apps..

Also i was searching for stuff on emulators to run on the psp, and many sites claim that people are working on getting linux to run on the PSP, and DS also. :) that would be sweet. obviously tho if they could get linux on it, emulators are going to be a piece of cake for em.

Vampyr 03-25-2005 11:28 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

By "emulator" do you mean being able to play SNES or NES games on the PSP by downloading them?

Becuase if so, I absolutely have to get one of these. I never had a SNES, and even the idea of having access to every SNES game ever gives me goosebumbs.

And with the power of the PSP...I bet you could play any game from any console before this generation.

Null 03-25-2005 11:39 PM

Re: PSP Launch!

Yes, i dont care about games you can still buy in stores and stuff. and i certainly have no interest in running a psp emulator on my computer to play psp games.......but to be able to play the old NES and SNES/Genesis games would be absolutly amazing. and theres absolutly no doubt in my mind thoes emulators to run on psp will arrive before the end of this year.

im a punchout nut too, id dig playin the old punchout games again on it. hehe.
