Riddle Me This/Riddle Me That

Riddle me this, riddle me that... this thread is for posting riddles, and not for your cat.

Answer me this, GT members:

"It opens doors, but it cannot make a fist"

What is it?

Answer me this, GT members:

"A woman has 7 children, half of them are boys...How is this possible?"

Answer me this, GT members:

"A farmer and his hired help gather grain one day. The farmer is carrying one sack of gain and the hired help is carrying 2 sacks. Who is carrying the heavier load?"

Answer me this, GT members:

" A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50."

The boy looked around and saw no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less.

In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?"

" The word CANDY can be spelled using just 2 letters. Can you figure out how?"

"A man was born in 1955. He's alive and well today at age 33. How is this possible?"

FOUR is HALF of FIVE.
Is this statement True or False?

I soar without wings, I see without eyes.
I've traveled the universe to and fro.
I've conquered the world, yet I've never been anywhere but home.
Who am I?

Quote:

"It opens doors, but it cannot make a fist"

What is it?

doorknob, crowbar, battering ram, axe, dynamite, key...

sledge hammer, security panel, motion (if automatic door)...

The will of mankind and the persistance of such good will! (if a door to the future)

But I like doorknob.

Quote:

"A woman has 7 children, half of them are boys...How is this possible?"
"Them" includes the woman. She has four male children.

Quote:

"A farmer and his hired help gather grain one day. The farmer is carrying one sack of gain and the hired help is carrying 2 sacks. Who is carrying the heavier load?"
I assume the hired help is carrying two sacks rather than two sacks of grain... and I also assume that a sack of grain weighs more than two empty sacks. So, the farmer carries a heavier load.

Quote:

" A boy was at a carnival and went to a booth where a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me $50, but if I cannot, I will pay you $50."

The boy looked around and saw no scale so he agrees, thinking no matter what the carny writes he'll just say he weighs more or less.

In the end the boy ended up paying the man $50. How did the man win the bet?"
The carny wrote a weight (i.e. 120 lbs) and the boy must have exlaimed "O! My weight is not that of 120 lbs. I weigh but only 115!" When the carny, as trickey as he may be, wrote "115" on his paper, having not explained that he could write the weight before or after the kid revealed the value, but that he had to write it on the paper at all.

Quote:

"A man was born in 1955. He's alive and well today at age 33. How is this possible?"
Assuming today is not 1988? What if 1955 was a town, or a hospital? Suppose Age 33 was also a location.

Re: Riddle Me This/Riddle Me That

simple enough, but incorrect. You need to make a fist to use the doorknob. You or it cannot make a fist, but it still opens doors.

depends on how much grain is in each sack.

Are you saying all of his answers are incorrect, or just the doorknob?

And you don't technically make a fest to open a doorknob. I could do it with two fingers, or use both hands or my foot.

"Brothers and sisters, I have none. But this man's father is my father's son."

"A man is walking and comes to a fork in the road. He's heard a tale that one path leads to a city of truth, in which no man can lie. The other path, of course, leads to a city of farce, in which no man can speak the truth. At the fork of the road, however, is a man from one of the cities. Being foreign to the area, the traveller cannot identify whether the man was from the city of truth or farce, so he had to ask a question. He doesn't have much time, unfortunately, so he can only ask one question. Which question must he ask to get to the city of truth?"

All of them are boys. But simply stating that half are boys.

Re: Riddle Me This/Riddle Me That

Hey! "Brothers and Sisters I have none, but this man's father is my father's son." this man's father is the person speaking. SO 'this man' is the son of the one telling. Right?

And I'll just say that 4 is not the half of 5. But it probably has to do with FOUR and HALF and FIVE.

And do you mean the man was born in room 1955? Cause you said 1988. :)

"half of them are boys"--> I thought of that explenation, but it would be too stupid. :(

The letters C and Y or candy spaced out.

And just because the batman fan inside of me won't let it go...

Write CAN in one letter and DY in the second letter. (letter can be the thing you put in an envelope [no, not The One Ring!]). :)

this reminds me of "labyrinth"...

"would a man from the other town tell me that this way leads to the city of truth?"

Re: Riddle Me This/Riddle Me That

The Riddle of CANDY Has been solved....although a good guess the letters C and Y is the correct answer.

Answer this paradigm...

If a tree falls, and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?

and this one,

What would be the next sequence of numbers:
11
21
1211
11221
212211
12112221
1112213211
312211131221
1311334113112211
11132123142113212221
........

And no googling! GameMaster!

If honest and the path leads to truth the man would say "no"
If honest and the path leads to false the man would say "yes"
If a liar and the path leads to truth the man would say "no"
If a liar and the path leads to false the man would say "yes"

but while you are correct, I forgot a very important detail that set this apart from the labyrinth .

The ammendment to the riddle is as follows:
Suppose neither of the two villages know of the other's existance nor their abilities to tell truth or not.

You gain credit for giving an answer to the original question. However, I did indeed leave a part out. Mah bad,

Just a suggestion but imo it would be better if one person posted a riddle and whoever answers it correctly gets to post the next riddle. Not everyone just throwing them out whenever. That way it's kind of like a more guidelined competition.

So yeah, someone post a riddle!

Re: Riddle Me This/Riddle Me That

*rolls eyes* This ones super easy:

"A man and his son are driving in a car, They get into a fatal accident, the man dies, and the boy is hospitalized.

When rushed in, the nurse says to the doctor "Doctor, this boy was in a serious car accident, and needs to be operated on right away."

The Doctor says "I can't operate on him, He is my son."

How is this possible?

Again, its super easy, I dont know why im bothering...someone else probably put it already.

"I have no legs, Yet I can run, What Am I?"

The man died, and the boy was hospitalized, but the other driver on the other side of the accident is the Doctor's son.

The answer I for my labyrinth style question, assuming the man knows nothing of either city, is "which way, of these two paths, did you come from?" He will point you to the truth.
