Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Quote:
Only a small stipulation but it'll be nice to see how well the game turns out since its going back to the roots of the series. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Starfox 64 was awesome. I loved it...I remember I would go to Blockbuster sometimes and just play it there.
Those were good days. I would be willing to try this game out....if Only I had a cube. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
I just hooked my N64 up a couple days ago and have been playing StarFox 64, how fitting? I hope we get to find out what happened to Fox's father after Fox defeats the real Andross from SF64.

Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
"nothing, nothings wrong"
Star fox 64 was fun, but it was a big dissappointment for me....(even though I played it all day every day) it just was too short....I hope this one takes more than 30 minutes to beat |

This game is looking pretty good, though. I remember back in the day when I used to rent SF64 and beat it the same night (the game was pretty easy, but there were many paths to take throughout the levels, I enjoyed that though). I will definitely be renting this when it's out. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Besides the fact that we actually see James and Andross in the same place (which is all the evidence against you need right there), I don't think Andross has any of the...eh...necessary organs.

Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Crash, don't give us that bullcrap that SF64 (or Lylat Wars) was only 30 minutes long. Sure, you could beat it within an hour, but the total time of fun you had with it.... like you said, all day, every day.
Just so many ways to beat the game. And I don't think Andross is James McCloud. BTW did you ever notice how there is a James McCloud in F-Zero X (and perhaps also GX)??? :D |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Fox's father : "Never give up fox, you must use the force"
Starfox: "Who are you?" Fox's father: "I am Andross, your real father" Starfox: " NOooooooooooooooo, I don't believe it......" Andross: "But it's true" *volin music starts to play* Starfox: " how come you never wrote me?* Andross: " Well I was busy trying to take over the universe and stuff plus I had so many women I had to test and see if you were legit, you wouldn't believe how much I get harrassment for child care money" Starfox: " Wait a second, you don't have the necessary tools for intercourse" Andross: " Your right, I was lying, bwhahhahaaah" *Andross drops an H bomb on Fox" Starfox: " Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" *Slippy on the intercom* Slipppy: " Fox....Noooooooo, Fox, Fox, Foxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!!!" Yup that's how my storyline would go, I think Nintendo should hire me. :D |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
I'm still trying to kill Andross in Starfox Adventures

no he was right. WAY too short, and WAY too easy. it was a fun game, which is why it was dissapointing. if it was a crappy game no one would care. but since it was good, its dissapointing that it ends so quickly. i beat the game the same day i bought it. maybe 2 hours out of it... i returned it same day too. hehe. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
While I agree it was way too easy, Starfox for the SNES wasn't that much longer. I could beat the difficult path in probably an hour (generally times would be the same for everybody since you go at a set pace, but boss battle speed changes a lot).
Hopefully this one adds a lot to the series. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
I never even touched the N64 version. I've only briefly seen it, too.
I think the SNES version was fantastic. Hopefully Assault is going to be as great as it was. I don't doubt Namco's abilities. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
The N64 version was one of my favorite games for the N46. I played it almost constantly for days at a time, even after I beat it. I enjoyed just trying to see different cut scenes and earning new badges.
The game was short, but not too easy. If you wanted to get the highest level badge at ever world, you had to do some awesome stuff. And don't say "the game is too easy" until you've gotten all those medals. |

Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
So, has anyone gone to see if their local Blockbuster or Hollywood Video has SF Assault available?
|
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
I might drop by after school today.
I have enough money to buy it, but it would definitely be nice to try it out. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
I just watched the new videos on IGN, I think the game looks really great. Much better than those screen shots we saw a year or two ago. And IGN complains a little about the ground battles but those didn't look too bad either. They're plenty of enemies to fight. I'll be buying this for sure.

Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
eh, the 64 version was too easy, i always had over 1600 (i think that was it) or higher when beating the game, and always had a bazillion lives....
i will enjoy this next one no doubt, IGN says "oh it's too much like the old one" and the other guy says "oh, there's not enough stuff like the old one" blast.. ign is quickly turning into gamepro.... :-( STAR FOX FOREVER!!! |

"The same Star Fox we've all come to expect. Arwing missions rock, while ground missions suffer from sloppy control." and "While somewhat fun, Star Fox: Assault fails to impress. It lacks the originality, mechanics and style of a next-generation sequel. Playing through the game’s opening sequence will rekindle your love for the franchise, only to have it betrayed by the shoddy control and repetitive play of successive levels." They also say that, like the other 2 starfox games, it's quite short... 7 out of 10 Kind of reminds me of the review of Rogue Squadron 3, where the flight missions were still great (although much of the same) and the new stuff they tried to do (foot missions) just didn't match up to the quality of the rest of the game... |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Thats the problem with alot of critics like IGN. When Wind Waker came out, people complained it wasn't like the '64 version and praise the new one coming but then some will complain about how its nothing "original" or something along those lines.
When SF Adventures came out, people complained it wasn't like the '64/SNES versions. When SF Assault comes out, people complain its too similar to the '64 version. ugh |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Another reason to believe the glory days of gaming are behind us? Nothing that is fresh and new?
|
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Some companies try fresh and new stuff (Pikmin being an example) but the general population don't always want to try new things
|
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
"oh, it's still on rails, the game sucks" = IGN
yeah right, the rails are what defines it as star fox... if i wanted to play star wars rogue leader I would..... there is no pleasing IGN staff. THATS WHAT PEOPLE LIKE! I wanted a star fox that is just like the 64 version with better graphics and a little different gameplay. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Can't say that I'm too impressed with the time I've spent with the game. Ground battles are pretty bad, and the rest just doesn't seem very exciting so far.

Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
/me sighs
I'm pretty frustrated with the rating as well. Not simply because I think it's unfair that they disliked the game. But the fact that they gave the game a 7.0, a "you might want to buy it, rent it first" type rating. But then they turn around and give NBA Street v3 a 9.4. WTF? Can I just say that EA is completely and utterly raping the gaming industry? I hate Sports games. Yeah. Just about every one of them. I really think you would all feel the same way if you worked in Gamestop/EB. There's just something about the titles. Something about how sports game fans can complain that Nintendo's sequels aren't original - and then they turn around and buy the newest copy of Madden every year. /me screams If you had to alphabetize an entire used PSX section by yourself and help customers at the same time... You would know... The M-N sections... Are just... Disgusting... The M-N sections take more time than everything else in the store combined to properly alphabetize. Now by itself, that's nothing. I've made no point. But when I'm doing it, I think about how much each title has really changed. And I know, that the changes are minimal, and yet people keep paying for them. It just makes me want to burn every single freaking sports title ever made (save for a select few that have really added to the industry). At any rate, I'll rent the game today. Hopefully I'll like it more than IGN did. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
I'm going to ask a parent of mine if I can rent SFA.
Expect impressions and an update later this evening! |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
Okay I finally found a Blockbuster where I could rent the game from.
The controls do take some getting used to. There are three control configurations, but the critics are right about the land stages. The control schemes for those stages is rather tedious. The voice acting isn't all that great sometimes either. So far I think I prefer all the other Star Fox games over this one. I have until the 12th of this month to take it back. I'm thinking I'll probably still buy a copy of my own, even if I do manage to finish it while I'm still renting the game. I'm keep the memory on the card even if I don't finish it though. EDIT: I actually finished it yesterday, on the easy difficulty level. I returned it today though. |
Re: Play Star Fox Assault Early!
This game is fun. I just wish they had used the same voices from the N64 version.
Did the SNES have the N64 voices? I think this game is somewhat underated. I've been having a lot of fun with it. I haven't completed it yet but the easy difficulty setting has presented a pretty good challenge so far. I think the multiplayer battles could be real fun. The foot levels aren't as bland as I was led to believe. Although the bad guys don't change much from level to level but it's still cool. I am satisfied. Although the "Best Seller" seal imprinted on the case cover confuses me. How could a brand new game be a best seller? I'm disappointed with Nintendo for using such a cheap ploy to make more sales. |
