IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
This little part in their PSP launch thing gave me a good laugh.

(I'm not flaming the PSP, just poking fun at IGN :D ) |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
I heard there is a way, using the USB port, to connect the PSP to your anus so you can fly.

Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
They're just trying to cast a shadow on the DS's explosive, unrelenting success.
Guess what IGN? No one cares about listening to MP3's on a PSP. In fact, it completley blows. Cool people listen to MP3's on MP3 Players. What a novel idea! |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Careful there GM :p

Yes, and some people play games on Handhelds other than phones. Also, a novel Idea. I dont see the difference of being able to play music on a phone, and playing music on a PSP. Or even an MP3 player. Can you play games on your MP3 player? No. Can you on a PSP? Yes. PSP>MP3 Player. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Since you and I seem to be in opposing conflict again, why not let our GameTavern friends choose the winner?
Boys, teach this kid a lesson. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
dissing up the PSP for playing MP3's is the same as dissing up an iPod for playing MP3's
having said that, "(we're listening to MP3s right now!)" sounds stupid. but I'm looking forward to MP3 playback, as I dont have an MP3 player |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's

GBA has been able to play mp3s for quite some time with a cartridge attachment. Don't see how much different that is from PSP where the mp3s are stored on a memory stick you must purchase. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Quote:
it's the same function. about GBA...how is the quality of the mp3's, ive never heard of this function |

And i find it halarious how people like to diss the psp instead of being excited about the DS. getting bored with the DS or something? and to support Stu's comparason... Its the same as dissing the DS for having picto chat. Its the same as dissing the ipod for playing games. I mean seriously, if you wanted to turn this same discussion around on DS, people were getting so excited about picto chat, OMG HAHAHA, HE HE HE!!! thats what phones, computer instant messengers, and letters are for!!! Both handhelds have thier extra features, and both will be used. who bloody cares? (And this wasnt directed at you Jonbo :p) |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's

LOL man...good stuff. Anyways, Nintendo dosent need to offer 200bucks worth of extra **** on their handheld to get people to buy it...I think we've seen that allready... |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Quote:
aparently for DS they do :p its not strickly gaming, it has extra's |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Quote:
:D Just so we're all clear on that. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Quote:
I'm sure a lot of people bought a DS for that. :\ And besides, you can argue that as a game. You can play games with it. :D |

Why are we bickering amongst ourselves? This is a gaming forum, and both of these handhelds play games, and both have their special features. Its up to you which ones you like (and also which games you prefer) to decide what you want. Let IGN be idiot fanboys for the PSP. They lose a little more respect everytime they do that. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
I think all the extras on the PSP are great, personally, however, we will see how the cost weighs out in the end. The PSP is going to have memory sticks and other expansions added on to its base-price. The one nice thing about the DS so far is the fact that there haven't been any news of add-ons.
I wouldn't mind listening to music while playing Twisted Metal on the go, but we'll see how the average consumer feels on the issue. And yes, IGN is retarded. |

I dont read ign, so i guess im just missing out on what people are crying about, but it seems to me they just prefer one over the other. everyone has thier prefrences, if people dont like thiers, perhaps its just time to stop going to that website? |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
In the future Pictochat will be really usefull for gaming, though. You will be able to contact people you want to play with via wifi. MP3's serve absolutely no purpose for gaming. IF they didn't include pictochat, than it would kind of be like playing an online game on the computer without a chatroom or lobby to meet people in.
I do agree with you on the last part, though. All people do around here anymore is complain about what IGN said. Just don't read it anymore. :\ And this just backs up Null's argument in another thread that all people focus on are the negative comments. |

You mean like almost every MMORPG, RPG, Sports game, and War fighting game? |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's

Mp3's can serve to music to listen to while you play games. its not a game, just as the picto chat isnt, but people can find uses for it. However im a bit confused on the one sentence, i never meet people in a lobby before playing a game. lol. you just hop on a server where people are. why would you need to talk to them first? computer games especially, you hop on, it lists servers and how many people are playing on each server and you join one. you can talk DURING the game, but i never talk before. Console games, which i think your refering to work a lot differently since people dont create constant 24/7 servers, they host games where everyone syncs up together. therefor people have to get together enough people before playing a game. but even so..., tho they have a lobby where people can talk, no one uses it to organize games to play, they sometimes talk about meaningless stuff. but when they want to play, they just hop on someones game they created and are waiting for people to join. either that or on a 1on1 game they challenge random people. But lobby for computer games, no, because theres no centralized server. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
This is way different from PC online games. Here you notice that there's someone with a DS close by and you start talking to him. You agree on the game, then you start playing.
You can't host a game 24/7... |

i think i just said that. :p |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Yea, but we didn't want to actually read your post to find where you said that ;)
Also, do you need to do the weird formatting thing on the memory sticks to play music as well as movies? Because that will hurt a lot of the average consumers appeal for that. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Quote:
reason is because they're just normal memory sticks. instead of making an entirly new memory stick they used the one already made, which is a good idea for em. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Well, as long as it is simple and they explain it really clearly in their manual or whatever, there shouldn't be a problem. From what I read, it looked like a big hassle, but maybe not.
|
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Quote:
what they're nitpicking at in the other topic pretty much has nothing to do with what an average gamer would care about with the psp, they're trying to convert a video format into a format that the psp will read off the memory stick. |

Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
So IGN gets excited about mp3 playback on the PSP, eh? So some of you are looking forward to listening to mp3s on your PSP, eh?
Well, let's see here. mp3s have to be stored on the Memory Stick unless they come on the UMD (not happening. It just won't happen). A 32 megabyte Memory Stick costs $35. A 64 megabyte Memory Stick will set you back $50. Assuming 128-bit encoding (and lots of people use higher quality these days), 64 megabytes is about enough for 12 typical songs or a little over an hour of music. This is assuming, of course, that you aren't storing other things on the Memory Stick. Like saved games. Am I the only one here who sees an elephant? |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Not to be mean or anything oh great xantar the migty *bows before him* but your prices are way way way off, 256 mb memory stick on the first site I looked at is 56 dollars. and thats best buy thats not even comparison shopping fot the lowest price..
Here is a link for anyone that wants one.. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....product&cmp=++ I'm all for the DS I love the touch screen and everything, however all those getting mad about the mp3's look at the GBA's ability to play tv shows by buying the media. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...77171%3A134815 So I mean each of them has their own downfall. I personally like the DS and I plan on getting one but I don't see the point of paying 150 for something that wont do my e-mail and planner, eh so I'll stick with getting my palm for the time being until these drop in price. And that folks is ace195's 2 cents |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Ok, I guess that site I was looking at was either way off or had really old prices for some reason.
So now for $56, you can get two hours of music. That is assuming you don't store anything else on that Memory Stick such as saved games. Or photos. I'm still very underwhelmed. But at least IGN isn't getting excited about the possibilities of movie playback on the PSP. That would be just...stupid. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Well... It's supposed to be a nice extra, like the DVD player on the PS2. But the PS2 sold better for that than for games. :p
It's a nice feature for those that have no MP3 player yet. But I'd rather spare battery life. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Quote:
and mp3 playback i dont think eats up much batterylife. something like 8 to 10 hours for mp3's i thought? |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Well I meant in the first months of the PS2 life. :) Forgot to add that part. :p
8-10 hours for MP3?? I expected it to be much more... since the screen can be turned off. |
Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's

Silly iPod. The battery is like non existant these days. I think you can actually buy batteries for it. I saw them on Ebay. But how do you open it? |

Re: IGN gets excited over playing MP3's
Just so we're all clear, the PSP is a media handheld, so to call it solely a gaming handheld in comparison to the DS would be unjustified. Since SONY clearly stated it to be a multimedia handheld... it wouldn't be WRONG for them to have the extra features it has.
So why bust on the PSP because it plays mp3's and people get excited over it? Truth be told, I drive so.. i dont need an mp3 player..... the one thing I'm excited about is the UMD movies.. *orgasms over Final Fantasy Advent Children* |
