Annoying Culture trends
Well, this is it! The thread where you get to complain about, argue about, criticise or generally knock down some trends.
The one I'm going to start off with is Spongebob Squarepants. I have been seeing the commercials for the movie and its getting irritating. The show isn't that great and I can't believe that they made a movie.... Actually, i can believe it. Its how they make money. I'm sure a lot of people will go because there are not only children but grown people who are obsessed. It is madness! |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
Rap.

Re: Annoying Culture trends
The OC, everybody likes it. Grrr
It's not as great as people would make you believe. People make it out to be the greatest show ever created. It is not even close. It a soap opera for crying out loud. Nothing against soap operas, I actually think life is a cheesy soap opera(nothing to do with what I'm talking about) What do rich white people have to complain about? |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
Halo
Sagging pants Pop music Anti-gay stuff Reality TV Censors In no particular order. And those are just the ones I could think of right off the top of my head... *shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
I don't like hipsters much. Ya know, the kind of kids who dress in trendy Hot Topic retro shirts and are the most pretentious kids you will ever meet. Yeah, those kids suck.
Also the seemingly growing trend of prudes in this country. People are STILL talking about the stupid Monday Night Football intro which was pretty much as tame as could be. Plus, we're to the point where over 60 CBS affiliates VOLUNTARILY decided to pull the plug in showing Saving Private Ryan, a great movie on Veterans day because they were afraid of the response of "certain people" who thought it was too violent...It's a sad day. |

ALOT!!!! :p I hate political correctness. Its on the rise. We cant call them Indians...but Cleveland gets off scott free. We cant call them black, they are now "African American" yet white people are referred to as White...not Caucasian, or European American. I abso-friggin-lutely hate Political correctness to the extreme its gone to nowadays. |

Re: Annoying Culture trends
Not sure if this fits in here but someone brought up antigay movements.
Is it gay for a guy to hug another guy? I have nothing against it. SOme of my friends are so insecure with themselves that they say that it is gay and won't even think of it. I am secure with my sexuality, and am not afraid to act gay. Typhoid knows what I mean. |
Re: Annoying Culture trends

No, it is not "gay." A hug between a guy and a girl doesn't mean they have sexual relations, or even that they want to. Hugging is just a way to express friendship. People not hugging other people because they are afraid of being "gay," (like individual actions will actually affect your sexual preference) is one of those things that reall, really, really annoy me. Although avoiding hugging other people for other reasons (like an aversion to physical contact in general) is fine. *shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
I don't like people that wear the Livestrong bracelets because I'm assuming most of them are just wearing them to be cool since so many other people are wearing them.
Industry watchers say most consumers don't know the bracelet is part of the Nike sneaker giant's branding mechanism and that's exactly why the concept has been so successful. |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
I've seen those... What are they exactly?
*shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
LiveStrong bracelets are rubber bracelets made by Nike. It's supposed to be for some cancer society and Lance Armstrong is involved in the project.

Re: Annoying Culture trends
Guys wearing pink shirts and flipped up collars.
It's like begging for attention. |

I know I'll be shot for saying this... but it can look good. Tread carefully though because most people I've seen always end up like a try-hard metrosexual. P/s: The whole polo shirt with turned-up collar is extremely huge here in Australia. Worn together with a pair of jeans and flip-flops and walla! Attack of the clones! |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
i son't know if it has been mentioned...but what annoys me is the "black teenager" trend thing...with pants own to their knees, shirts that are 7 times their size, condom things on their head, followed by a cap that's worn sideways...that whole look annoys me...
the next thing would have to be...hmm...i guess everything else is ok...OH! and spongebob! :errr: |

Re: Annoying Culture trends
Just fake people and haters.
Is it cool to be someone different now? Is it cool to hate everyone else? The people here are weird  |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
Oh yeah, and another thing... This whole "Synthetic" deal...
Look around internet communities (livejournal, myspace, what have you) and you'll find bajllions of them (half the time with "synthetic" somewhere in their name... "SytheticBeauty" and such)... People who wear fake colorful hair extensions and paint themselves up to look like some sort of friggin alien... Example I guess it's more or less sorta goth/raverish, but don't tell them that, they're more unique than those subcultures and can't be classified... |

I dont see how the entire teenage nation dressing remotely the same signifies "different" status. Unless im missing the part of this conversation that proves me wrong. EDIT: DH....that was plain scary... |

Re: Annoying Culture trends
One thing I have learned it that I can almost always tell if a white guy is in to the whole rap music scene and thinks being a jerk is cool.
If he's wearing a red, white and blue hat. Nothing against americans. It's just something I've noticed. Almost every guy who wears one of those caps, sideways I might add, almost always listen to rap or some of the new music that is "cool" and I stress cool. |

There arent many clones here, but I'm annoyed by the people who think they are special because they don't conform with other people's styles or beliefs and are just themselves. In the end they're just part of a group of different people who are the same....O_O |

And what really gets to me is when people who make themselves look "Different from the norm" label it as them being creative, then say things like this (taken from someone's actual profile): Quote:

young girls pressurised to think that being stick thin is attractive.
*girl 1: hey i just ate a slice of pizza *girl 2: OMGAwdd....like.... how could you! *girl 1: sigh* i know ...i even ate an entire slice of bread this morning *girl 2: oh well....go throw up...ill throw up too! *girl 1: YEAhhh~...throwing up is like...soo..cool sick... another thing is girls being made to believe that all there is to teenage life is being cool and popular@wanted/sexy....and the only way to do that is by being skinny...wearing a pushup bra....makeup and a short short skirt....+demanding attention by being a bitch and calling everone else who isnt a try-hard a ''Loser~'' |

Anyway, if your post defines what teenagers these days perceive as 'cool'... then I'll probably die trying to fit into the so-called 'in' crowd. I can barely burp let alone regurgitate a whole meal. Then again, I'm hardly a teenager anymore. Well... almost. Still, I will have enough sanity not flash my legs and a little bit more to the whole world. |

I'm assuming that you knew that didn't look good in which case, I couldn't care less. I actually made it a point of wearing socks with my sandals in my freshman year of college because it pissed off the girls down the hall. ;) |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
lol! I imagine the pissing off part would be very fun :).
BTW, I was just joking about wearing those. I could never wear that combination... Because it does look bad. |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
Locally, there's a rash of car dealerships. Every other commercial on Comedy Central is for one of them.
|
Re: Annoying Culture trends
God I hate those damn yellow cancer wristbands. They suck.
|
Re: Annoying Culture trends
Rap, country, and liberals.
|
Re: Annoying Culture trends
Well, everyone I know that has one of those yellow wristbands actually has someone in their family with cancer. So I don't know what to think about those.
What I can't stand is the constant gay-bashing in America. I mean, wtf did they ever do to you? God that pisses me off. Also, I can't stand white kids trying to be black. Come on buddy, you're white. |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
People that walk unusual unless they have a disability. Like probably everyone here has seen people, mostly teenage guys, that walk like they're trying to depict a gangster or 'tough guy' and it just looks really lame. And I'm sure it uses more energy to walk like that then it does to walk normally.
