COD4-2 Impressions

Alright, so far this game is awesome. Got my first kill with a really long-range grenade, brought a smile to my face. Few kills later, my Xbox red rings :(

Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A moment of silence for gekko's 360. :(

On the bright side, Microsoft is pretty fast about the process. I got my 360 back in under two weeks.

I have it, but I have about 3.5 hours of school before I play it. :(

It's called "Modern Warfare 2".

You're the third person I know of now whos system Red Ringed after playing this game.

I don't think I'll get it until I hook up my PS3 to the internet though.

2 weeks? I can't live 2 weeks without being able to play COD4-2. My Xbox actually red-ringed about 2 weeks ago, but we fixed it. Guess the fix didn't hold :( Going to try to fix it again, and I'll have a backup. In the meantime, I've had to resort to plan B:

Oh, and this game is awesome. :D

Stop calling it CoD4-2.

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

The airport sequence is innerving to say the least. My wife was watching me play when it came up and we were both shocked (I actually had to put the controller down for a second to gather myself because it took me so off-guard). When I started playing again, my wife left the room because she was so disgusted and I "refused to participate" in the level even while playing it. See spoiler for explanation.

At first I didn't fire my gun at all, much less into a sea of innocent people. But then I started to get worried the men I was with would get suspicious, so I started unloading into the ceiling and floor. I've never been struck so viscerally by a video game before.

Man, this game is screwed up, but in a unforgettable and effective way. You don't come away from that game with any illusion that war is glamorous or romantic. It's brutal, deadly and in the end makes you feel utterly impotent. This game is in my Top 5, regardless of how short it is.

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

Is that the level that the game was warning about when it said some people may take offense?

I played it for a bit yesterday, mostly the offline co-op missions, but the single player is really good aswell. I enjoyed so far.

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

I'm really interested in this offensive video thing. I sooo want to see what's causing all this talk, but don't want to read anything about it, I just want to see it while playing.. Damn it, what happens!?!

Don't tell me. And no, I haven't read Prof's spoiler post.

It's actually the same approach that Super Columbine Massacre RPG took, only now it's on the greatest game of all time. When I got there I just said, "Holy shit, the ESRB must've taken a vacation."

At first I was like "Dude, that is very disturbing", but ive come around.

It does add to the mood and the story of the game. I can play it and it doesnt bother me too bad.

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

I think any controversy would only come if you took that level out of context. There is no joy in that level. Only horror, and that's the point. Such a great game.

So that is the level, then?
After I get paid tomorrow I might actually pick it up, Vegas 2 just doesn't tide me over all the same.

Any chance we can get a Ghost wallpaper?

I got an AC-130 in an air drop yesterday. All the weapons are kinda toned down, The 12mm and 25 mm grenade have to be reloaded. Still really good way to rack up lots of kills, tho everyone started hiding after I started blowing people up. :lolz:

I wasn't phased by that secret offensive mission that I won't spoil.

I believe this is because of my ability to not relate games to reality in any meaningful way. It doesn't really make a difference who I'm shooting because it's all pixels and whatnot.

COD4 2 Impressions

I agree I will not be picking this game up, but I knew that months ago, I will stay with COD4 for my military fix in gaming.

and get GOW2 for sure, tons of replayability

Random players in this game are almost as, if not more, obnoxious than Halo 2 players back in its prime.

gekko 12-26-2009 02:10 PM

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

Which is why I'm still pissed Microsoft allowed IW to take away party chat, which is a service I'm paying money for. Not a huge loss, since I played Ground War almost exclusively in COD4, and that allows it. Otherwise, if there's only 2 people, private chat still works great.

The random people are annoying, but I have a mute list of at least half a million by now, so I don't tend to hear them too much ;)

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

So I got the game today, and played through a few missions. I was unaffected by said mission with the spoilers.

Anyway I hope I can get kinda decent at the game, and i'm actually enjoying it more than I previously thought I would.

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

I beat the game (even though that's pretty easy.) Super short but I'm really amazed at the visuals they can pump out.

60fps should've been standard this generation. If MW2 can do it that well, why can't others?

Also, predictable storyline, but the level design and world art was fantastic. Thoroughly amazed the entire way.

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

But let's all face it, it wasn't a single player game, it's a multiplayer game with single player tacked on.

I didn't really care for the single player, and didn't bother to play it at first. About 2 weeks of playing multiplayer, I decided to play the campaign and get it out of the way, thought it was pretty good anyway, and still continue to play multi :)

Hope to start spec ops sometime, but I just can't keep myself from selecting multiplayer when I start the game :D

Any tips on getting through the campaign on Veteran difficulty? I've gotten through a few missions so far, but it's definitely getting quite challenging.

I'm sure you'd find that it's not much different from Live if you tried it. I really don't know why people think PSN sucks..

Dyne 12-31-2009 05:56 AM

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

My friend Will has it on the PS3 - it's not different in any way. Free online is always a bonus.

PS3 is starting to get some better versions - Tekken 6 (better AA), Borderlands (shadows), and Dragon Age (huge texture buffer) all benefit over the 360 now and I'm sure we'll see better PS3 versions of multi-plats in the future.

A lot of devs are starting on PS3 now and then switching to 360. Infinity Ward probably just does both at the same time though because they're awesome.

Re: COD4-2 Impressions

PS3 version of the game seems a little bit more fluid to me.

I'm a 360 fanboy, but the controllers for PS3 are more favorable to FPS

Finished up Veteran today. Crazy game.

I've been doing a little bit of multiplayer, but I still suck pretty bad at it.
