Best Trilogy?
Let's make a list of trilogies that everyone should see.
Obviously you have Star Wars (the new movies don't exist, I can't hear you) and Back to the Future. And things that are kind of hit-and-miss like Jurassic Park and The Godfather. What else am I missing. Edit: I'll update a master list. Ace Ventura Alien Trilogy (*) All Dogs Go To Heaven Angles in the Outfield Apocalypse Trilogy The Apple Dumping Gang The Apu Trilogy Austin Powers Back to the Future A Better Tomorrow Beverly Hills Cop Big Momma's House Blade Trilogy Bourne Trilogy Brave Little Toaster Carnosaur Cisco Kid Cube trilogy tentative Dark Knight Trilogy Death Note Trilogy Dollar Trilogy (good fucking trilogy, thanks Seth!) Die Hard (*) Elements Trilogy Evil Dead Trilogy (FUCK YEAH!!!!) Ginger Snaps The Godfather Ice Age Indiana Jones (*) Infernal Affairs Jeepers Creepers Jurassic Park Legally Blonde (schwing....) Look Who's Talking Lord of the Rings Lucky Stars Mad Max (aweeeeeeeeessssooommmmme) Mariachi Trilogy The Matrix The Mighty Ducks Mission Impossible Millennium Trilogy The Mummy (1, 2, Scorpion King?) MVP: Most Valuable/Vertical/Xtreme Primate Naked Gun Neverending Story Oceans 11, 12, 13 Triology Ong-Bak Police Story Trilogy Predator (isn't this debatable?) Return of the Living Dead (*) Rio Bravo Robocop Rush Hour Samurai Trilogy Sarah, Plain and Tall Shrek Spiderman (1, 2, 3) Starship Troopers Star Wars Episodes 1-3 (we can treat the old and new Star War films as independent) Star Wars Episodes 4-6 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (*) The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin Three Colours Trilogy Toy Story Transporter Transformers Trilogy of the Dead Twilight Saga (*cringe*)...isn't this gonna be 4 movies? Underworld Undisputed The Vengeance Trilogy *movies with asterisks may have more than 3 films, but are best encapsulated by their trilogy line up or have a 4th "bastard film" that came out much later in time (usually to milk money) |
Re: Best Trilogy?
LOTR
Dark Knight Trilogy (*jinx*) |
Re: Best Trilogy?
Infernal Affairs, Toy Story, and fingers crossed on the upcoming Riddick threequel.
There's also the The Vengeance Trilogy: Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. |
Re: Best Trilogy?
Rush Hour, and at least 2 out of 3 of those movies don't suck. Also the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
|
Re: Best Trilogy?
You put Rush Hour, but exclude Indiana Jones and Die Hard?
Right now, would say Toy Story is the most consistently great trilogy in Hollywood. |
Re: Best Trilogy?
Indiana Jones and Die Hard both have 4 movies.
What about The Matrix? |

Hey, if he can get away with only counting Star Wars 4-6, I can onyl count the first 3 movies! |
Re: Best Trilogy?
Live Free Die Hard was good. New Indiana Jones doesn't exist. We can include them both, because technically it was the Die Hard Trilogy for a long time.
I also think you could include the Alien Trilogy and pretend every other Alien movie doesn't exist. |
Re: Best Trilogy?
The original Jurassic Park is awesome, the sequels are terrible.
I got one you haven't listed yet: Ice Age. (It's better than Shrek!) |

Re: Best Trilogy?
Ah, there's more news on it than I thought:
On September 5, 2011, Diesel announced that filming for the new "Riddick" film will commence soon in Canada and will be distributed by Universal. Diesel also confirmed that the film will carry an R rating. As of September 23, 2011, the title of the film is listed as 'The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking' and word has been given that Karl Urban will reprise his role as Vaako from The Chronicles of Riddick. |

Re: Best Trilogy?
There's a Neverending Story III? What's it based on?

I think The Lost World is a bad movie, especially compared to Jurassic Park...but the critics really tore it a new asshole when in reality it is an okay monster movie. Anyway, AWESOME contributions form Typhoid and Seth. I have a lot of movies to watch. The Dollars trilogy is fucking awesome, I can't believe I didn't think about that...Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite anti-heroes. |

Anyways, I actually have no idea what it's about. I've only ever seen the first one. I'd say it's a safe bet to forget it exists considering there's probably good reason it's existence isn't common knowledge. Here's this gem from wikipedia: Quote:

Re: Best Trilogy?
Ah. Yeah.
The Neverending Story 2 was also pretty bad, but at least it was based on the second half of the book. Which I still have to read by the way... Was I stupid for starting a book in German? |

Pirates of Caribbean
Lord of the rings Toy Story Bourne identity |
Re: Best Trilogy?
ahaha
The Gods Must be Crazy 1+2+3 (3rd is some japanese production. Looks hilariously bad, prob won't watch it. The first two are some of my best childhood film memories. Seriously, watch the first one. Light hearted comedy.) Riddick? oh, Men In Black |
Re: Best Trilogy?
Bump since Angrist mentioned LoTR in the other thread
And I guess we can now add The Dark Knight Trilogy to our list of trilogies. If that works. |

3 was okay. Definitely a renter...and pretty silly. Josh Brolin is my mancrush, and he's a good actor. But even he couldn't keep the movie full of levity...which is a reminder of how good the original Men in Black was. That first movie was good! It was funny, quirky, had a good awareness about itself. I'd buy Men In Black for keeps, but I'd leave the rest of the trilogy alone. |
Re: Best Trilogy?
I actually really liked MIB3, it was WAY better than 2 anyways. The villian in MIB3 sucked, but other than that it was good.
And I would hardly call Ace Ventura a trilogy, that third film is a huge bastard child. |
Re: Best Trilogy?
Back to the Future is probably the most fun trilogy I can think of.
