The next generation of consoles

I was just thinking. Since all three console makers have stated that they will be participating in the next generation of console gaming, I was wondering about the big games and the big needs that each system will have at their launch date.

For the next Nintendo system, we have to see a great online strategy. Make voice chat a must for all games (like Xbox Live). This is a great thing to have IMO. And for the blockbuster game to have for launch, I think that it would have to be an online Pokemon RPG. This will be a MMORPG (or whatever the initials are). Imagine this, a huge world for your custom character to go running around in, using voice commands to order around your Pokemon, challenging other trainers wondering around, and catching the hundreds of thousands of Pokemon that inhabit the world. Now this, my friends would be one HELL OF A GAME.

For the next Sony system, I think that they would need a new SOCOM game, or possibly a new Gran Tourismo or Auto Modellista game (depending on how well it does in North America). The SOCOM game would be unbelievable just like the original, and there will be excellent servers, and voice chat once again. The Gran Tourismo game will be online definately, with the posibility of tournaments to win prizes and such. For online, I think that the headset for all games is a must, so Sony should follow MS's example.

For the next MicroSoft system, I think that they should keep on doing what they are doing. It will obviously have a great online strategy, with voice chat and all. Also, I think that we will see a Halo game and a HUGE online RPG (maybe, oh damnit.. I forget that name of that sweet RPG coming out for Xbox soon, but the sequal, lol). Also, I would expect something big from Rare in the first 3-6 months of the system's life.

So, share your thoughts on the online modes and games of the first generation of games for the next generation of systems! Please post your thoughts on all three consoles, not just your favourite.

Sony needs their wildcard - Grand Theft Auto

make it online and keep the quality the way it is or better, and you have hoards of gamers buying the PS3.

It's hard to think that far ahead on which games they should have, Some ofthe games/ideas you mentioned would do well for this generation too!

True, but I do not see Nintendo releases the Pokemon online RPG game anytime before the next generation consoles come out. Same goes with Gran Tourismo, IMO. There will be another SOCOM, and another Halo.. But still... The next generation of consoles could do these games so much more.

voice chat should not be a must. not at all. it should be an option for if one wants to use it.

microsofts online plan is not perfect. they need to let people with dialups on also. the world is not to the point where everyone has broadband. infact most the world does not. they're cutting off a lot of people.

and theres a bit too much talk about online games. they arent the future. i dont play any console games for online. thats what i have a PC for. and online games in general are better on PC. can do a lot more. some games are nice to have on console maybe go online that you cant get on PC, like mario kart. or perfect dark. gran turismo. stuff like that. i hope they dont go overboard with it.

The next step in gaming is not Online. it will be more VR, with wearing glasses or something instead of a TV set. thats what i believe to be the next step. altho i dont see that comeing next generation. it will be quite a while for that kinda stuff.

I disagree... I think Online is more in the near future than VR gaming.

Next generation, Predict that every game that can have offline competition with more than 2 players will be online. The days of offline Fighting, Sports, FPSs, and even most action games will be done next generation.

Yes, I see all console makers and game developers going overboard with it.

Why? Because online games destroy the need for creating AI. It's a human brain vs a human brain.... no AI on earth can simulate it.

That's why I also predict a massive take-over of MMORPGs... Having human conflict online makes for it's own good story lines. Online gaming is the next logical step for console gaming... and probably the next big profitable thing.

I hope they don't go overboard with the MMORPG though... I hope Sega/EA/Square could work together to just make one big third party MMORPG game to connect all three systems... and have the other developers leave that genre alone.

you know as well as I know that wont happen...they will all try to make the best MMORPG exclusive...unless the world changes drastically in 3-4 years.

Sony Online Entertainment makes great MMORPG's...with Everquest and upcoming sure-hit Star Wars Galaxies. Plus they're making that shooter, Planetside.

If they make those series exclusive to the PS3, and keep Square onboard with the Final Fantasy series, then online RPGs belong to Sony, IMO.

It also boils down to userbase too :p

But chances are Sony won't have a problem with that.

Well, here in Canada, broadband internet connection are the majority. So, I don't care about you guys, but Xbox Live will work out great here.

Speaking of EverQuest, you can sign up for beta testing for it, I got it in one of my IGN emails..too bad I dont have a router or the Network Adapter...and it's free, too.

How do you get notice on becoming beta testers for games?

Yeah, not only that, we have the largest ratio of Xboxs compared to other countries. Chances are if you play Xbox Live in another country you will be bound to play another Canadian at least once within your first week. It's win win over here. :D

Joeiss 11-06-2002 03:05 PM

Um, you are Canadian, right?

I'm not sure..you prolly have to go to the game's website or the company's web site. I got the email from IGN...But other game sites might have the link, too.
