Annoying Culture trends
Well, this is it! The thread where you get to complain about, argue about, criticise or generally knock down some trends.
The one I'm going to start off with is Spongebob Squarepants. I have been seeing the commercials for the movie and its getting irritating. The show isn't that great and I can't believe that they made a movie.... Actually, i can believe it. Its how they make money. I'm sure a lot of people will go because there are not only children but grown people who are obsessed. It is madness! |

Re: Annoying Culture trends
The OC, everybody likes it. Grrr
It's not as great as people would make you believe. People make it out to be the greatest show ever created. It is not even close. It a soap opera for crying out loud. Nothing against soap operas, I actually think life is a cheesy soap opera(nothing to do with what I'm talking about) What do rich white people have to complain about? |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
Halo
Sagging pants Pop music Anti-gay stuff Reality TV Censors In no particular order. And those are just the ones I could think of right off the top of my head... *shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
I don't like hipsters much. Ya know, the kind of kids who dress in trendy Hot Topic retro shirts and are the most pretentious kids you will ever meet. Yeah, those kids suck.
Also the seemingly growing trend of prudes in this country. People are STILL talking about the stupid Monday Night Football intro which was pretty much as tame as could be. Plus, we're to the point where over 60 CBS affiliates VOLUNTARILY decided to pull the plug in showing Saving Private Ryan, a great movie on Veterans day because they were afraid of the response of "certain people" who thought it was too violent...It's a sad day. |

ALOT!!!! :p I hate political correctness. Its on the rise. We cant call them Indians...but Cleveland gets off scott free. We cant call them black, they are now "African American" yet white people are referred to as White...not Caucasian, or European American. I abso-friggin-lutely hate Political correctness to the extreme its gone to nowadays. |

Re: Annoying Culture trends
Not sure if this fits in here but someone brought up antigay movements.
Is it gay for a guy to hug another guy? I have nothing against it. SOme of my friends are so insecure with themselves that they say that it is gay and won't even think of it. I am secure with my sexuality, and am not afraid to act gay. Typhoid knows what I mean. |

No, it is not "gay." A hug between a guy and a girl doesn't mean they have sexual relations, or even that they want to. Hugging is just a way to express friendship. People not hugging other people because they are afraid of being "gay," (like individual actions will actually affect your sexual preference) is one of those things that reall, really, really annoy me. Although avoiding hugging other people for other reasons (like an aversion to physical contact in general) is fine. *shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
I don't like people that wear the Livestrong bracelets because I'm assuming most of them are just wearing them to be cool since so many other people are wearing them.
Industry watchers say most consumers don't know the bracelet is part of the Nike sneaker giant's branding mechanism and that's exactly why the concept has been so successful. |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
I've seen those... What are they exactly?
*shrugs and walks away* |
Re: Annoying Culture trends
LiveStrong bracelets are rubber bracelets made by Nike. It's supposed to be for some cancer society and Lance Armstrong is involved in the project.

Guys wearing pink shirts and flipped up collars.
It's like begging for attention. |

I know I'll be shot for saying this... but it can look good. Tread carefully though because most people I've seen always end up like a try-hard metrosexual. P/s: The whole polo shirt with turned-up collar is extremely huge here in Australia. Worn together with a pair of jeans and flip-flops and walla! Attack of the clones! |
