Re: Nerds on the Rocks 5/Dual Wielding 2: Mega Pre-e3 Edition

Okay so right now the cast looks like it will be

Xantar, Magus, Uber and Carnage?

Who's skype name is.... jraggy

The format shall be pretty simple I think

maybe 5-10 minutes or so on each of the big three's conference

Microsoft
Project Natal
Halo Reach
Gears of War 3
Fables 3
Peter Molyneux next project/Milo (more thoughts on what has become of that tech)
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Hulu on XBL?
Big Surprises?
Exclusives?

Sony
PS Move
Games
Do you expect more hardcore stuff like SOCOM
Price? Launch Date?
PSN Premium Service?
Gran Turismo 5
Will we see a new Twisted Metal?
What do you expect from Naughty Dogs?
PSP
PSP 2
3D
Will Jax or Sly Cooper make their HD debut?

Nintendo
Zelda
Vitality Sensor
Metroid: Other M
Wii Party
Where's Retro?
Do we expect Mario to have a role.
3DS
Golden Sun
Pokemon Black/White
Brain Training/Layton
WiiWare/Virtual Console
Pikmin? F-Zero? starFox? Donkey Kong? Mario Party?
Rumors of an Epic Mickey Redesign
Will they have any major 3rd party surprise?

Random Stuff
Rockstar having a minor presence, but a surprise, do you expect to see GTA V
What is Square hyping? Will they finally reveal Kingdom Hearts 3? What console.
What is Valve's big surprise? Half-Life 3, episode 3?
What does Capcom have up its sleeve? Is it time for a new Resident Evil?
Sonic Colors, Sonic 4 and now rumours of Sonic Free Rider for Natal, will Sega have a game for the PSMove launch?

Then general questions
What most looking forward to
What would surprise you
What do you expect

Nerds on the Rocks/Dual Wielding Feedback Thread

With the site somewhat up and functional, I thought it was best to stop bogging down the forums with like 2-3 threads a week dealing with the podcasts.

This will serve as a general feedback thread for both podcasts.

And once we get further in the week will merge the other feedback threads.

Quote:

In this special, mega-sized Nerds on the Rocks/Dual Wielding podcast, the Nerds and the Gunslingers combine forces to talk about the biggest event in gaming, e3. They give their thoughts on Project Natal, PS Move, the 3DS, Zelda and so much more. So pull up a stool, grab a nice cold one (hopefully on the rocks) and enjoy this very special podcast.

That was a good listen.

Re: Nerds on the Rocks/Dual Wielding Feedback Thread

This is the first episode in .m4a format with chapter divisions and everything. There should be a link in this thread, but BAB has apparently decided to make you click through to the Nerds on the Rocks website to get it. It also should be going up on the podcast feed whenever somebody gets around to it. Please check it out and let us know if it works for you because we may stick with it for future podcasts.

I took this opportunity to introduce you all to some of my favorite songs from OCRemix. I'll have a track listing later today.

You should really work out who talks when. It was a bit chaotic this episode, and I felt some participants didn't get their say. :)
I'm at 1/3 right now. I'm doing two or three things at the same time, so it's a bit hard to follow everything. :D

Well to be fair, its a bit chaotic because we had 5 people on, which probably won't happen too often.

On the same hand, it makes the conversation seem more naturally when people are talking over each other/to each other. As opposed to, you speak, stop, someone else speaks, stops, responses.

Re: Nerds on the Rocks/Dual Wielding Feedback Thread

Good show. Might have been my favorite which is really odd since I had no interest in what you guys were talking about. Just melded nicely. Very natural. And sounded like you guys had fun. Probably since before one people would have experience with what they were talking about while the others politely listened. Here everyone had ideas about things that were yet to happen and thus all had the same level of knowledge...something like that.

But seriously, I had no idea there were five people on the show until the very end when Xantar listed everyone. The whole time I thought there were four guys, two of which I had trouble telling apart. Turns out I had trouble telling apart three people. Need to up your accents or change where you pause like Christopher Walken, just something.

I grew up in Eastern KY and can do a pretty bitchin redneck accent. Maybe during the next podcast I'll bring that to the table for you.

Yeah but in a real conversation, there's non-verbal communication. So you'll see when somebody has something to say. Maybe you could send a typed message on Skype saying that you really want to speak your mind.
Another improvement would be the host asking people specifically. For that he'd probably need to keep track of who knows what.

Also, I believe it's Xantar: could you mute the 'received message' sound of Skype? Having to hear that sound in a podcast is unprofessional man, UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

It's not my fault! Blame BAB and his sensitive microphone. And just be glad we weren't picking up his ring tone.

Anyway, I promised a list of song samples. All songs can be found at OCRemix:

1. Triforce Majeure by Disco Dan

2. Halo Insurrection by Kirby

3. Black Wing Metamorphosis by lots of people

Think you should add the links to the songs under the show notes on the Nerds on the Rocks website. Same deal for the articles you fellows discuss for Cocktail Chatter.

For once, I'm innocent.

I turn off all sounds on Skype when recording so my mic wouldn't pick up anything!

But yeah its something we need to work on for next time.

NoTR/DW e3 Wrap-Up Planning Thread

We tried last night, but it was difficult to find a 4th.

So we're going to aim for Saturday afternoon or so.

It will be another joint podcast effort in which we look at the big 3 press conferences. Touch on some major 3rd party games and what interested us.

Also if possible, would try and get SoccerAnt and/or Uber on the show since both had the chance to attend e3 and go hands on with some games.

And since we're already here.
Next Nerds on the Rocks, will be a review/discussion of Toy Story 3 and Pixar.

Dual Wielding will hopefully be a more in-depth e3 review when Soccer and Uber are back to working capacity.

So who can make it on Sat and what time works best.

Nerds on the Rocks/Dual Wielding e3 Recap Episode

There is a feedback thread up top/stickied, but I will use that to bookmark all the podcast and feedback after the week is up.

I doubt many people would look in the thread weekly to see if a new episode was added.

Quote:

Last week was a busy week for the video game nerds as the biggest show of the year came and went. We had exciting announcements of new games and new hardware. We got out first real look at the 3DS, Microsoft’s Kinect and Sony’s PS Move. So this jumble sized convention called for another team-up between the Nerds and our resident Gunslingers. We discuss the big 3’s press conference and which 3rd party made this biggest splash. So grab a drink, sit back and enjoy.

As always feedback is most appreciated.

The two guys normally on the show who went to E3 weren't there for the E3 wrap-up. *sigh*

Solid show I guess. Once again wish I cared about what you gentlemen were talking about. Though I am considering watching Konami's conference now. And surprised to hear Shadowfox is still alive. It's been years since heard his name.

Think you guys might have the show too planned out. Don't believe there was a single tangent or a difference of opinion.

Then you'll be happy to know I had you in mind for that episode. :p

I think as it stands, I had you, Magus, Takesgiantsteps and Uber as the 4 contenders for that episode.

~Edit!~

Had some ideas while walking about town.
An episode focused on toys. The type of toys you grew up playing with. If you still buy em and the likes.
An episode on computers, like what was your first PC and all that fun stuff.
Cartoons (Well several episodes, wanna do one focused on comic book cartoons, video game cartoons, and general cartoons)
Gadgets and gizmos, devices that have caught your eye or that you own or want.

There's a new podcast up. The topics are Toy Story 3, Violence in videogames, and of course Cocktail Chatter. Meanwhile, Magus takes over his old hosting duties and Xantar vows revenge.

Also a shout out to Default for his "Guile Theme Goes with Everything" thread. We were so inspired that we made up one of our own and inserted it at the end.

I'll post links to the interstitial music later.

Nerds on the Rocks - Episode 7

BreakABone 06-27-2010 08:55 PM

Nerds on the Rocks Episode 7

http://nerdsontherocks.com/nerds-on-the-rocks-episode-7

The Nerds are out to prove once and for all that the Guile theme goes with everything! In addition, we also talk about random things for like an hour. We discuss the glory of Lord Pixar, and their latest divine gift, Toy Story 3. We get into the subject of video game violence (only one cast member suffers a fatality during the recording) and as always we end the day with some Cocktail Chatter. Everything from The Superman of Hippies to Ocarina of time Vs Twilight Princess. As always the first drink is on us, and of course its on the Rocks.

Also if you want to read the Toy Story 3 review,

Re: Nerds on the Rocks Episode 7

Hmm. I guess I should say it in this thread, then and wait for BAB to combine it into the other one.

Music tracks in this episode:

1. "Combat and Service (Guile Stage remix)" from the OCRemix Super Street Fighter Turbo HD Remix Soundtrack (it's the 27th track)

2. "Go Home and Be a Family Man" by Norrin Radd

3. "Guile Theme Remix" by DJ Barry

Teuthida 06-27-2010 10:49 PM

Re: Nerds on the Rocks Episode 7

Really enjoyed this one, but sadly I had to skip the TS3 talk.

EDIT: Was asked to do a more indepth analysis. Ok reasons why better than the last two. Instead of talking about a certain thing you had a broad topic for which to take sides. That led to an actual conversation with differing opinions. Usually you'd talk about something, everyone pretty much agrees, and then you would move onto another topic and repeat the same format. I think you'll naturally keep improving if you stick to the same folks and get more comfortable talking to each other. Real conversations are more enjoyable than merely having a hit list of things to talk about. Babs had told me you folks would talk while not recording before or after the show. I think those conversations would be more interesting than being overly structured.

And not sure if Babs mentioned the GT talk. In the past you'd mention GT or a forum member in passing without explaining it. Have to assume you have more listeners than the ones here. So prefix item by saying "On our forum at GameTavern.net user so-and-so said so-and-so. Oh that kinky bastard." Or something like that.

Dual Wielding Ep 2: The Bag-El Incident

http://nerdsontherocks.com/dual-wiel...dinosaur-story

So after several weeks away (they count it as 3), Dual Wielding is back. There's a snazzy write-up on the site, but I just wanted to point out that the Canadians call a bagel, a bag-el, what the heck is with that?

REALLY?

soccerant 06-28-2010 11:37 AM

Re: Dual Wielding Ep 2: The Bag-El Incident

Quick note, there's a little more of the same mic interference on my end; I'm looking into it.

Xantar 06-28-2010 12:14 PM

Re: Nerds on the Rocks Episode 7

The problem with the E3 podcast is I don't think there were very many places we could really disagree on. Everybody agreed Nintendo won the show. Everyone thought Kinect and Move were underwhelming after the hype and probably wouldn't sell very well. Everyone thought Kirby's Epic Yarn looked gorgeous.

But if you want Xantar to be opinionated, then I think that can be arranged.

As for the GT shout outs, I don't know about the others but I've deliberately avoided explaining them because it gives them a more inside joke feel.

Bube 06-28-2010 03:18 PM
