Re: NHL Playoff Pool

I wish I gave a shit about hockey, I really do. Chicago is in an uproar though, and all the bars have been packed during the hockey games. I'm suspect of the sudden popularity of the Blackhawks....I suspect many people have jumped on the bandwagon. This could be good for the Hawks though in terms of gaining new fans.

The Blackhawks have always had a pretty strong and proud fanbase, but obviously people are going to jump on the bandwagon if their team is going to the finals.

It would be like if people suddenly gave a shit about the Blue Jays.

Re: NHL Playoff Pool

My Dad used to work for a radio station in Chicago, when he was living there, and they carried the Hawks. During the period that he was living there, in, the early 80s, he noticed that if they weren't doing well, the arena was empty, but if they were doing well, the fans packed the place. It's an original six team, so obviously there are loyal fans, but I hope that they're more consistent than what my Dad's comment suggests.

I'm glad it's a Chicago vs. Philly final too. Both teams have gone through 5 Stanley Cup finals since winning their last one. Chicago has the longest drought though. I think Boston's drought is pretty long too.

Go Flyers!

----------------------------------------

Okay, so I just looked up the drought situation on wikipedia. Chicago does have the longest Stanley Cup drought. I thought that was the case.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...eason_droughts

In terms of teams that HAVE won the Cup in the past, the longest droughts are Chicago, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, NY Islanders, etc etc. It's on the list in the middle of the page. It seems like there are a lot of different variations on this.

Hmm.

Do I trade a Flyers loss for a Roy Halladay perfect game? Probably not, but at least was a really fun game to watch. At least the Flyers stayed with them all night, except lots of the 3rd...

Being a longstanding Jays and therefore Halladay fan, I say yes. Yes you do trade the two.

Re: NHL Playoff Pool

I didn't like that hockey game at all. It wasn't because the Flyers lost, it was because it felt weird due to no defense. That's not the Flyers style. At least they can score a lot of goals, but scoring five goals in a game and then losing is not good.

Wouldn't ultimate victory also mean that the Canucks won the Cup? For your sake, that is.

I know, I was just joking around. Man, I hope that the Flyers win tonight. If they can win these two games at home, then they'll be right back in it.

Woo! Thank God we won that one. One more and back to Chicago.

EDIT: WOO! Closer than I thought it'd be at the end there, but all of these games have been close, yikes... Best of 3. Feeling good with the Flyers coming off back to back wins. Who knows though.
