Interesting information:

The GIF file format has allowed portions of images to be transparent, allowing them to appear to have a shape that is not rectangular. However, the GIF method was considered to be rather poor because it only allowed individual pixels to be fully transparent or fully opaque. The PNG format improves upon this by also supporting an 8-bit alpha channel, so pixels in an image can have partial transparency. However, it took a long time for web browsers to fully support transparency, and some, notably Internet Explorer (for Windows), still do not.

IE sucks. :) i says screw em, i dont care if IE users can view them correctly or not. they look nice and smooth with transparent in a good web browser.

Yes, IE sucks.

And Null, that latest sig of yours is lacking. :(

The middle is very empty, and the background looks boring.

I agree. It doesn't have that special...bam, you know?

Thats it! Put an explosion in the middle! That will give it some flare!

Or you could just put a flare in the middle.

i know. browns never been a color i like to use. i love the plane, but everything else just feels so so on it. been tinkering around with a couple other things tho. i came across that plane and i was at work. so decided to play around with it a bit.

ah well. i quit with that for a bit. gunna tweak around with this one a bit more. Might be a bit too green for me tho..

Heh, I've seen that render used a bajillion times. ;)

I think it is too green. You can't see a lot of details in the background, which kind of makes it boring. The render doesn't seem to be blended very well either, and the sig is too long, it's past the forum constraints.

I don't think it needs to be that long anyway. There is a lot of nothing in it.

But since you aren't done tweaking, I'll wait to see what turns up.

Gunna keep it up while i play around with it.

not past the forum 'constraints' tho, always been 500 long, one would say yours is a bit too tall tho. hehehe

But yea. i plan on filling it in. if not shortening, it by 50 to 100. i wanted a nightelf person, but cant find any good ones.

the green im still thinkin about. i have a couple other really nice looking ones (not related to this one) but it seems all my favorites always turn out to be in the blue range. tryin to put some other colors in and less blue.

I like to keep half or over half of my sigs with the background showing, AT LEAST. Because if the render dominates, than where is the artists touch? But then again, if it's too long it gets boring, unless you have a really awesome bg.

a bit old there. but none the less. anything over 100 (unless transparent and only part is up over 100) looks much too bulky, tall rectangles never look that great.

but your right about the background showing. some of my favs are jsut a background with no renders at all. a stylish border and a nice background goes a LONG way.

I didn't know that was old. Is the height limitation still 125?

I never make sigs over 125 anyway. I hate tall sigs. They are so ugly.

I think Null's current sig is nice. The render although it looks like it's crackling, is blended in well, and blended enough to create a certain effect.

Sometimes things are done on purpose.

Null... how is getting 3dsm going?

I was wondering if you had done that render yourself....

3dsm is fun to play with.

Null 03-11-2005 08:18 PM

Re: Signiture & Avatar Display

i do believe it was shorter then 125 before that. They used to change it all the time. as far as i know they dont really have a specific limit on it anymore, unless its obviously huge and takes up the entire screen.

oh sure, now that i've altered my current already. lol

and i havnt had a ton of time with it, the render in this one is done from a few different layers, one being a background i've had on my computer for a long time. other layers were mine.
but im gunna start workin with 3ds some more this weekend, first time i'll really have a chance to play with it. first couple tries went pretty well tho. lot of learning to do on that program tho.

Just because you do something on purpose doesn't mean it will look good. ;)

And I like the shorter version of the sig. I'm just thinking that a smooth green techy/abstract bg doesn't fit in with the WoW render.
