I have finally reached home.
Shall make a more detailed post sooner or later, but I just want to thank my two hosts again, Combine and Acebot, top notch guys.

Re: A Penguin in Canada: BreakABone Goes North: The Earl Rufus Story

Well here's my longer post though it seems like no one is around tonight.

Here are some more pics from my vacation, that are mostly on Facebook, but eh.

There's an interesting relationship between these two.
Swan looks up to Sean, and while I don't think Sean will admit it... I think he likes having a second in command. And a goffer. :p

Me
My host
And Dylflon 2.
There's an evil story... I don't want to remind myself of.

Dyne and Dylflon 2 read over a special Mad Lib.
There were some interesting ones done.

Me trying sushi for the first time.
I enjoyed most of it. Sean enjoyed the rest. ;)

Bubble tea.
Good stuff.

Sadly, I got no pics of us doing the whole 8 player LAN party, but eh.
PoCo was pretty fun. And it was nice meeting everyone.

Adam and his family were terrific to me, and I enjoyed my stay.

Now this part of the trip isn't too interesting to most, but was my favorite part as I got to visit an old friend.

This globe greets you at the MS Visitor's Center. It has some text written around it. Pretty sweet.

They had Gears connected on a REALLY huge screen. I would guessimate about a 100 inches, but don't take my word for it.

My true journey... granted, pretty closed off except for a tiny store.

Awesome candy shop in the Pike Peak Market (I promised to bring candies for Acebot so this is where it was purchased)

The Space Needle

View from the Top.

For the final leg of the trip, I visited Ace down in LA.

First thing you should know, he has truly interesting socks.

He enjoys sitting on balls.

We went to Medievel times which was completely bad-ass.
Outside of...

Our black and white knight losing in the first round. :(

Hard to see in this pic, but pretty cool thing that lists all the Oscar Winners for best picture.

Chinese Theatre.

Ace enjoys verbal abuse.
This was his verbal abuser for a truly terrible but awfully slow comeback game of Beer Pong.

This is Ace and Nick.... both had a terrible idea for beer pong...

One cup filled to the brim for both of them. First person to sink their ball wins. The other... well had to finish both cups.

Nick Lost.

Ace explaining his organization system.

There are more pics from Venice and the Vietnamese Culture Night, but getting tired of linking. :p

I will say this about my two hosts since spent the most time with them.

Adam/Combine is an interesting individual. In a way, he reminded me of a small kid, not so much because he was spoiled or slow, but he was just kept so out of the pop culture bubble.
On the same hand, he has a very welcomed sense of humor at least to me. Though, a Canadian trait seems to be answering a question by just restating what was said.
"What is Tim Horton?
Cam: Its Time Horton!"

Watching the Fifth Element with Adam, asked who the bad guy was
Adam: He's that guy.
I got a lot of those "answers"

Now Ace/Allen impresses me, partially because like every other person he introduced me to had some random nickname that he remembered, but also he is a real people's person. I got to see him work twice, and it is an interesting sight to watch.
He has a charm about him that allows people to respect and listen to him, and he gets his way without being too heavy handed. It is an interesting balance.

Well, I think that's all for now. Sadly, I have to return to the real world soon enough.

What the hell are you doing to those chop sticks?!!? Special education Asian cuisine fail?

I can't believe a New Yorker doesn't have chop stick talent.

I can't believe you tried sushi for the first time in Canada.

Jeeeeeeeeeez. :p

He's using two sets of chopsticks to. Sushi is delicious and we just so happen to have a great stock here on the west coast. Vancouver is great for fresh fish, and we have a strong Asian population to keep the market strong and competitive.

Yeah, i'm just sayin New York is like the melting pot of foreign cultures i assume they have some good sushi places. I mean Chicago has decent sushi places, and we are way out in the middle of the country.

I think that's because of being Canadian. As Robin puts it in HIMYM - "The 1980s didn't come to Canada until 1992". :p

Well, I'm sorry if I can't use them.
Sue me...

As for trying it for the first time in Canada, the thought of raw fish (ignoring the whole Penguin thing) is not that tempting to me.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fish person in general... so it was never a priority. While I was there, they insisted (especially Dylflon) that I try it, so I said why the hell not.

I'm sure I could close my eyes... throw a dart on a map and find a sushi place in the city, I just never cared to.

Anything else Mr. KG?

So I'll put up some pics of Venice while I have the time

A few things I learned about Earl this past weekend:

1. He like Orange

2. He takes pictures of the Pacific

3. He takes MORE pictures of the Pacific

4. He gravitates toward food

5. He prefers Sunset to Sunrise

6. He appreciated the LA Sunset

Ahhh, I'm not a big fish person myself...you're seriously my black doppelganger. But anyway, sushi is different than "fish." It has different tastes, textures...and with a little ginger and wasabi mmm mmm.

Anyway, good thing Dylflon insisted you try it, because you should try everything once...open minded is the way to go.

Looks like those canadians are good for something :shakehead

Rape and murder are just two of the many things I will likely never try.

I'd say we're also pretty good for maple syrup, hockey and for having a justifiable condescending attitude towards Americans. :p

Don't know something until you try it Simon. ;)

And don't forget Canadian Bacon....or as you Yanks call it, ham

GameMaster 01-22-2009 05:32 PM

Re: A Penguin in Canada: BreakABone Goes North: The Earl Rufus Story

Is there a difference between Canadian bacon and just 'bacon'?

As Typhoid pointed out (and Swan stated above), Canadian bacon... is pretty much ham... so its unlike "bacon" and more like ham. Same source. Different cuttings.

As for other odds and ends,
We... or some of us... thought it would be a good idea to sing the Power Rangers theme song in PoCo... it was.
Ace... can sing the Pokemon song by heart as he demostrated during the Vietnamese culture night
Nintendo isn't just a secretive company in business, they won't let you anywhere near their headquarters. One of their door is actually manned by a receptionist about 5 mins away... via camera... its a little weird.

Hah, 10 years ago I had a discussion with this guy from school. I've been a veggie all my live, while his friend had become one when she was 13.
He told me that I wasn't a good vegetarian, because I needed to try it before I could refuse it.
So I said: "You have to murder somebody before you can decide not to murder anyone?"
He replied that was different and he'd come up with another example.

He was thinking for 5 minutes, then he gave up. :D

A) You just called a black person your pet.
B) You made him sleep in the corner of the basement.

That means you are stuck with the angry black man we saw on the street...
At least, he won't be palling around with you folks. ;)
