This is a question to anyone who has finished Metal Gear Solid 4:

Does the last scene end with Solid Snake giving Big Boss a cigar or is there a video after that?

Re: MGS4

Nope, that's it, although at the end of the final credits(the ones after the Big Boss scene) there is a convo between Otacon and Snake where you just here the audio.

Pretty much. I don't even know where to place it in my top 10. I'm going to have to think about it for a while and play it again.

Re: MGS4

Finally got to play and beat it because Typhoid brought it over.

Two comments:

1. More like tactical movie watching action

2. Best game that doesn't let you play it that much

I have to say, it really lacked on the whole letting you play the game thing. I really do wish there was way more gameplay considering how many cinematics there were. I loved the movie sequences though and am happy that everything has been more or less explained. But in terms of a game that actually lets you play it, I'd have to call MGS3 the best in the series.

Which difficulty did you play it on?

Phil, he played on Naked Normal.

I'm waiting for Metal Gear Solid 5: Tactical Euthanasia Action.

I thought the gameplay would take a while to get through so we popped it on the FIRST DIFFICULTY THAT YOU PLAYED IT ON TOO ACCORDING TO SEAN in order to get through the game quickly.

Do the other difficulties give you more gameplay magically? I could see it taking a little bit longer to get though but beyond that...

Dyne 08-22-2008 02:32 PM

Re: MGS4

Hahaha, oh sean.

Yeah, I think there's more enemies the higher difficulty you go up. Plus your Camo is a lot more sensitive. You basically can't just run and gun. It's a shame they allowed for that style of play in easier difficulties. :(

MGS4 is amazing, though I'll admit its definently built for the MGS fans. I don't know how much the story would appeal to someone who hasn't at least played one of the previous 3 titles... espeecially MGS2.

Re: MGS4

Ok I'm a big Metal Gear fan, I played the original when I was a youngster back when it came out and then bought every subsequent game after that and usually whatever console it was on (twin snakes ugh!). I liked pretty much each one (bar twin snakes). However I have to say the MGS 4 was a big dissapointment for the following reason :-

- no decent character intereaction through the codec screen - Rosemary played no real signifigant part in the game - lack of humorous easter eggs - small play time - Act 3 : follow some idiot (boring) - faceless bosses - Drebin character very cleche and unecessary and over the top boss backstories - Buying lots of weapons adds no real value to the game - Act 4 : very short - Act 5 : very short (wouldn't it be good if you got to explore or actually do something on the ship) - Cut scenes too long, what kind of games has a save option between cutscenes? - Nonsensical jibberish storyline (sorry fellas but if you're swallowing liquid/ocelot hypnotising himself to fullfil some kind of role you've lost touch with reality) - Was a movie more than a game.

Aside from all that there was some really good points like the boss battles and the control system and the graphics. Anyway that's about it please rebut.

Couldn't the same be said for ALL story driven game series?

Re: MGS4

Another thing that's been bothering me about the story. Wasn't Cambell in the second one just a phantom of Raiden's imagination cobbled together from his own experiences and expectations of what the colonel should be and then transmitted from Arsenal gear, and didn't Snake and Octocon reveal that too him when he was naked in the arsenal gear jejenum or wherever? Raiden even said he'd never seen the colonel in real life and he's never addressed as Colonel Cambell.

Wasn't the whole point of him looking and talking like Cambell done on purpose to make the audience think it was Cambell so the twist at the end came as a bigger shock? I mean that seems like a pretty big hole to me that he turns up in the second one and Snake is talking to him like it was a familiar experience to the both of them. I mean if the colonel wasn't involved in the mission why would he even know who raiden was?

Nope, I played MG2 first and understood it just fine. Played MGS1 before MSX and understood it fine. Played MGS3, and could say that the story is so lightly related to the others that it could have been understood as a stand alone game too.

MGS4 is the first in the series in the Playstation ages that I think could not stand alone whatsoever.

I think you have a misunderstanding, the colonel in raiden's mind was campbell. It was not just a play on visuals, Raiden directly asked him about his time working with snake and the colonel tries to ignore it. He was an AI version of the colonel who was implanted into raiden, who reacts according to Raiden's expectations to help control him.

Now, the reason campbell knows raiden is completly up in the air. That's a hole in the story.

capablemachine 02-15-2009 10:58 AM

Re: MGS4

Yes I remember him talking about the article "the darkness of shadow moses" but I think that was left openly ambiguous as to which colonel was referred to in the article. I mean it seems odd to me that if the colonel giving Raiden orders was (to him) Campbell that he would never mention it to Snake or Otacon at all.

Regardless of whether it was or wasn't it was still a pretty big cock up in the fourth. He should have just kept it simple, Campbell doesn't even really play a role in the fourth except for introducing Rose and telling Snake he's married to her. That whole arc seemed unneccessary.
