I repeat: you seem to know an awful lot about IGN's finances. Such as the exact amount of money that they are making from advertisements. Do you have IGN's balance sheet handy so I can take a look at it?

You think they'd be running the site if they were losing money?? Hell no. 40,000 x 25 = 1 million dollars. IGN PEOPLE'S MONEY :burger: So they are self sufficient, and do end p making money. |
I still don't see what everyone whines about. If you don't want to pay, then don't pay. Quit whining, it's only $20 a year; I spend more than that a week just on lunch. And if you don't like IGN so much then why does it make a big difference to you whether or not it's becoming Insider-only? If you don't like them, you should have no problem with it.

there's also so much I want that's out or coming out that I have to watch what I buy... and it's a big deal when I do get something... Like last night I pre-ordered virtua fighter 4 yay for me :D But I'm not spending 20 bucks when I site could possibly shut down before I get my full year or whatever, and I'm not saying it will shut down, but still I got screwed when that happened with a magazine and I don't want it to happen with IGN munch and stuff :burger: They could have at least made it so I can look at the forums and laugh :( |
I don't eat lunch...

But don't whine about not getting what you want because it costs a little bit of cash. If you really liked IGN so much you would be more than willing to shell out the very small amount it costs, just like you would for a magazine you partically liked. I'm not saying you whine about it DH, I don't really remember if you do or not, I'm just talking to whoever does whine about it. |

'thing is, I only used IGN for news... forums (when I was bored... I was signed up since like april 00 maybe? And I have like 800 posts... which is... nothing for my standards ;) )... and the occasional review score thing... But I can just get that from other sites now... So the only thing I really miss is the forums... cuz now when I get very bored and I'd usually go to IGN, I have to try to find something else to do... and trust me, I have too much free time, and a lot of that time I'm bored :( |

Cheapskates never prevail...
I hope they lose everything and are forced into uncomfortable bankruptcy. I mean, please, lets put this into perspective. A video game site. I don't need to know the whole storyline and see every possible screenshot from Mario Sunshine eight months (sarcasm) before it's release. Believe it or not, I have a life. Let's take a look at Mario 64 for example. I didn't go to any site before it's release or even knew what it was going to look like until I went to my friends house to play two weeks after it's release. Quite frankly, I didn't care. Now I know a lot about it. I've beaten the game also. For some reason no one wants to see screen shots or sneak peek QuickTime movies of it now though? |
Look everybody wants the news, but not everybody wants to pay.
Although you can find all the stuff that I want on other sites, my only bitch is the forums. I can't even read them!! |

Think of it this way. Most of us pay $20 for a magazine that comes 12 times out of the year. Isn't $25 a better bargain to access a website that has all the news on a daily basis, reviews and previews on all the games, codes, guides, exclusive interviews and media, and media on each and every game, not to mention having that for all the systems? |

Gekko IGN is a better bargain than a mag, BUT all the info (reviews, movies, previews, analysis) can all be found on other sits for FREE. IGN does have some exclusive material every once a while but it's not worth the 25 dollars. Ohh well it's our money and we do what we want with it, it's their site and they do whatever they what with it too. But they aren't going to get a subcrsiption out me. |
Ditto. I refuse to fund a failing company. I may be rich but I'm not stupid.

As for media, IGN is the best you'll get. They put up all the media released by the companies, and make their own when they play the game. The only other site that comes close is PGC, and they don't post many of the movies, because they are paying for the server costs out of their own pocket. For event coverage, IGN is always there. E3, GDC, TGS, ECTS, anything. IGN always is there. A lot of press confrences are attended by IGN. You really can't beat their coverage on events. For reviews, they're great. They have reviews for every game that is released, and they're all from the same people. It's not like going to another site, and having 7 different people reviewing games. You'll get the same people's opinions on the game, which is always a nice thing. For previews, they're the best. They get previews out quickly, and on pretty much every game. As soon as information is released about the game, IGN has a preview ready to go. And then you have all the stuff you won't find elsewhere. IGN has their own hands-on impressions of Home Run King, because unlike these free sites, they get a chance to play many of the games before they're released. They also have impressions after taking Soul Calibur II for a spin. You don't find a lot of this stuff on other sites. The reason we all like IGN is because they have quality information all on one site. Everything you want is all there. That's why we all like them, and that's why you guys are so pissed that you won't get it for free again. IGN is a great site, and it's well worth $25 a year. |
