Well, I retired mainly to concentrate on writing fan fiction and because I thought I had been a mod for quite long enough (any longer and I'm sure people would have started to get sick of me). I do happen to have a mod position at PVG, but that's in the Fan Fiction Forum which is pretty much dead except for my fanfics and the World News Forum which is even more dead.

Anyways, looks like the debate won't happen. It was supposed to be about videogames, just so you guys know. I suppose Joeiss' idea about Afghanistan was a worthy topic, but it wasn't what we were looking for.

I'm sorry to have started up all this. But I still wish the members of the GT team had taken just a little time to tell me that they're not interested.

The debate was supposed to be about videogames? Now, I am sorry, but I think that is just sad. I mean, if a little debate gets started in a videogame thread, that is cool. But if you actually plan one, that is just stupid.

I think I said three weeks ago that GT had shirked this PVG promotion off and refused invitation. Oh well, some must be told by twice. :-o

And so is mine. I saw those things on the WC3 website the other day, and then I saw yours and I thought that was a really good idea. As of now, Night Elves are my favorite race.

Off topic, but the whole debate thing sounds pretty goofy. GL anyway.

There was a big debate awhile ago at PVG over video games that consisted of more sites. Did that ever happen?

It was going to happen, but the Xbox team backed out at the last minute. I forget which site they were from. It might have been TeamXbox. PVG itself wasn't participating in that one, merely hosting. All the same, it's a pity.

For those of you that don't know, I am Indigo Montoya,the XBox forum mod, over at PVG. I am also a quite loyal member of these forums as well.

After reading this thread I have to say I am greatly dissappointed by GT's response to a activity that actually promotes intelligent conversation and personal growth.

Not only has the response been dissappointing, but I think much of it in this thread has been embarrassing to other members of GT. Xantar enjoys a mature, intelligent argument in which both sides benefit from, so he's GAY? Well I guess if thats the response we receive, then a mature intelligent conversation could never happen with GT.

Joeiss, you say how much you don't like debates, yet you offer topics. You obviously are interested or you wouldn't have bothered. So why not join in? I have my own theories on that matter...

I had truly hoped to actually try and recreate some of the mental stimulation I enjoyed in college through lively discussion and debate, but I now see that even if the debate happened, that would be impossible.

I would like to apologize to any GT members who are as dissappointed as I am in the response we at PVG have received in this proposal. These comments were not directed at you.

Not that everyone here's stupid or anything (I'm probably the dumbest one here anyways ;) ), but methinks that if Xantar wants to have a nice good intelligent yada yada big long discussion, a videogame forum isn't necesarily the best place for it to take place... :sneaky:

For some reason it bugs me when someone comes to a videogame forum and is all like big'n'bad, intelligent, very mature, etc... and is all like... I dunno :hmm: "Let's hold a debate! Oh nobody wants to participate? Hahaha chickens!"... Like he's being an ass and rubbing it in someone's face... or something... What's the point of the debate anyways? To prove you're better than us or something? :confused: I guess some people would say "They're fun!" or something, but chances are most people here couldn't care less about a debate, and probably have more fun arguing like this then they would actually debating ;)

Just like the whole "Insightful post" thing for getting doubloons that Xantar seemed to like to promote (well, kinda)... I don't come to a videogame forum to be all insightful and stuff, I come to have fun and just chat with other people about videogames... I mean I don't want to read a bunch of short, stupid replies, but we don't have a bunch of short, stupid replies here...

If it ain't your bag, then it ain't your bag, but don't sit and make judgements of people who actually like to have intelligent conversations, no matter what forum they are in. There are members of GT who agreed to the debate, so obviously there was interest. Xantar's playful ribbing was just that, playful. It was meant to bring those GT members who had agreed to the debate in the earlier thread out of the woodwork.

But claiming he, or any other PVG member for that matter, only wanted to do the debate to make themselves look smart is silly. If you had bothered to read his explanations on this thread you would realize this. By dismissing the whole idea as PVG ego stroking you only make yourself appear insecure.

I would like to publicly apologize to the members of GameTavern who have had to put up with the on-going rants of three individuals incorporated with PVG. Clearly it takes more than a months time with no interest with the exception of 5 to make clear our desires to participate in a debate. Their endless amount of speeches regarding disappointment and "lack of team spirit" grow tiresome as well as defensive stances for "intelligent conversation" when all we're saying is, "Thanks, but no thanks." Hopefully, the "issue" at hand will be cleared soon.

But haven't you gotten it by now? This isn't about you guys and never was. I'm not disappointed in any of you guys who are criticizing the debate. This is only about the 5 (or 4) who expressed interest in participating in this debate. Those people were the only ones we were concerned about. If the rest of GT didn't give a damn, that was fine by us. We weren't looking to challenge the entire forum.

How is this thread embarrassing to some members of GT? I really don't understand this. And I didn't call Xantar gay because he like "mature, intelligent argument in which both sides benefit from". I said it because that is what I truely feel that he is, a homosexual. This thread isn't about that, so I will not explore that further, unless somebody really wants to know why I think this way, then PM me or something. I'll just tell you this, it is from previous knowledge gained by posts made by Xantar.

And a "mature intelligent conversation" can happen with GT. I just don't think that most of us here want to have a whole tournament setting. We have had some really good and serious threads, not lately, but that doesn't really matter. We all know that we can be good, serious and intelligent posters, but like what DH said, this isn't really the best place to put our minds to work. I would rather do that on paper at school, where it actually matters.

Debates are pointless, that is when they are planned out and are in a "tournament" type of setting. I do not like the whole competition thing when it comes to things like this. I will get into a debate which is started by a question or comment, but I really wouldn't want to be in one that is planned out and takes time out of my day. I mean, it is an internet site, I am not going to specifically say to my friends, "oh, I cannot go out from 3-4 because I have to attend a debate about videogames". That is just stupid. The debates that I like are the ones that I can post my view or expressions whenever I want, not in a specific time period. Oh, don't get me wrong, I am interested in debating, but like I said, not planned out ones. And what are your theories? I wouldn't mind knowing.

Why are you apologizing? I mean, the 4 or 5 people that were actually interested in this debate 2 weeks ago didn't show up. This obviously means that they just grew uninterested in the whole idea. So who are you apologizing to? All members except for the 4 or 5? Why? These people don't give a damn about the debate, so why apologize?

This forum just didnt express a lot of interest, its not that we are too stupid do participate in a debate or whatever.

I happen to believe in putting your mind to work where it doesn't matter so that you'll do better where it does. Practice, in other words. But if you don't want to do that, it's fine. And yes, it's possible to practice thinking and being intelligent.

If you had read the original thread, you would know that the debates were supposed to simply take the form of a thread where someone asks a question and then the team members make their posts in their own time. There were some rules such as a character limit on posts, but there were no time constraints of any sort. That is why people in different time zones could participate even if they were as far away as England. The debate would end when everybody felt it was time to end it. That could have meant a thread sticking around for a few days for all we knew.
