Oh yeah, I own a PSP... and I play it at home, school, or on trips. I don't have time for it at work.

Yeah, but a lot of people already have GTA on their console, and might not feel the need to carry it around with them.

Sonic was pretty popular in the 90s as well, and Sega still didn't succeed. I don't think one franchise alone will make PSP a success, I think it's the amount of franchises they have that will make it a success.

And a lot of people owned GTA3, so they didn't feel the need to buy Vice City...

Then a lot of people had Vice City so they didn't feel the need to buy San Andreas...

I think when a game has a name as big as GTA, people will buy it even if they end up playing it sitting around their house 99% of the time...

Unless it sucks I guess... Which is always a possibility considering they won't be able to recreate a game with as large an area as they can on consoles...

Well, I realize that a lot of people still bought the sequels, what I'm saying is a lot of people might not pay an extra 350 bucks to get a new portable system to play one new game a GTA. A sequel is a lot different because it is a new game on a console that the person already owns, so the cost factor is less.

It's also still to be determined what market there is for GTA on the run. Most of the GTA fans I know are casual gamers who play games in their spare time, but I'm 90% sure none of them would buy a handheld console. I realize that the market for GTA is HUGE, but there is a large difference between portable gamers and console gamers.

you're absolutely right. a lot of people WONT be willing to spend an extra $300 for a new GTA.

Yes.

I'm not saying that GTA on PSP wouldn't be a killer app, or move a lot of systems, because it would, but I think it's crazy to assume that it alone could guarantee success for Sony's system, or any handheld system. In my mind, Sony's system is already guaranteed success because of the PlayStation name, the sleek design, and the number of quality games available for it, not just GTA.

Did you honestly think that I meant that GTA AND GTA ONLY would be the reason for PSP's success?

C'mon now...you knew what I meant. If all else fails, GTA will save it. If it ever comes to that. GTA is sorta like a safety net...with the PSP having a 99% chance of NOT falling.
