Re: Last movies you saw
Woo, deja vu peeps.
Dinner For Schmucks - I agree with Prof, this was hit and miss. Probably more of a soft-hearted comedy than a dark comedy like the trailers pitched it. Despicable Me - WOW. I had no idea what to expect with this film. But holy cow was this a cute film. And it had an amazing soundtrack. I think Despicable Me should qualify as this year's sleeper animated film. The trailers also pitched a different movie than what you get...which is always a mixed blessing. Buried - Again, wow. This was a really really good film....the film has some obvious flaws that require you to suspend some disbelief. And of course, Tarantino already had some coffin fun in Kill Bill, Vol. 2. While buried was hit and miss with some parts of the story, the movie really excelled in three ways for me: 1) The movie created a deathly sense of claustrophobia. Not quite as claustrophobic as The Descent, but pretty close. 2) Ryan Reynolds did a good job acting. Maybe I am biased though since I have a man crush on him. 3) The ending. Saying any more will spoil it. :D |
Re: Last movies you saw
I think Dinner was softened up for American audiences.
If I'm not mistaken, the original film (Since its an Americanized version of a French film, I want to say) doesn't even have a dinner party. It takes place entirely in the apartment I believe. This film kind of uses the dinner as the big laughs/goofs/redemption part of the plot. I enjoyed though. Also Buried was indeed awesome though for the life of me don't get the snake did it crawl in there when he wasn't looking or was it asleep for hours? |
Re: Last movies you saw
RED - Decent popcorn action flick. John Malkovich was hilarious. "Can we get pancakes?"
|
Re: Last movies you saw
a movie called Enter The Void. Unlike anything that I've ever seen or heard of. Watch it? I don't know whether to recommend it.
|
Re: Last movies you saw
Saw Children of Men. 7/10. Enjoyable scenario about a world where all humans have been infertile for 18 years.
|
Re: Last movies you saw
Fish Tank. About a troubled teenager in a poor English town.
I just finished watching it and I have no idea what to think of it. |
Re: Last movies you saw
The Men who Stare at Goat
Netflix claims it was a comedy, not the genre I would have classed it in. The movie was alright but did nothing for me. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Pulp Fiction, for the first time. I don't think I need to say anything about it :)
|
Re: Last movies you saw
Watched John Carpenter's "The Thing" last night. Pretty fun movie. And Mafia finally makes sense now.
|
Re: Last movies you saw
Haha fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally. :D
Speaking about mafia.... when are we doing a new game? |
Re: Last movies you saw
The Troll Hunter
Quite fun and an interesting premise. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Oh it's out! Nice. Jeg verstår ikke.

Re: Last movies you saw
Bitch Slap
This movie makes no bones about who it intended audience is. I mean the movie has excessive boob shots and hot chicks making out, but it also has some insane action and way too much green screen. I say a solid 9/10 movie |
Re: Last movies you saw
Dead Alive
Really fun Peter Jackson comedy/horror from 1992. Thanks to Netflix for recommending it. It was great. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Just watched Black Swan.
Good movie, last 30 minutes were intense. Portman totally deserved oscar for the role |
Re: Last movies you saw
I've been on a superhero kick.
Watched Superman/Shazam!, which was a collection of four animated shorts: 1. Superman/Shazam, centered around Captain Marvel's origin story 2. The Spectre (never heard of this guy, but I've not read much DC either...it was a good short though) 3. Green Arrow gets engaged short 4. Jonah Hex Also watched Batman: Under the Red Hood, which was very good. I started to watch Superman/Batman: Apocalypse...but then Krypto the super dog showed up wearing a cape and I just couldn't take it seriously any more. Justice Leage: Crisis of Two Earths is next on my list...I think it's the last streamable thing on Netflix. Any recommendations in this category? :) |
Re: Last movies you saw
Aw, you have to finish Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. It concludes with one of the very best animated fight scenes.
|
Re: Last movies you saw
I saw Horton Hears a Who.
Was ok, 7/10 I guess. I was ill and had a hard time staying awake. |

Re: Last movies you saw
The Social Network
Nice. Punch-Drunk Love Ugh. Two, maybe three brief good scenes, and decent acting....but the story...and the directing... Wouldn't have been a complete waste of time if I was for some reason trying to reach some daily quota of viewing lens flare. It was just trying so very hard to be artsy. If the movie was a puppy I would pat it on the head and tell it didn't need to catch that squirrel. That artsy artsy squirrel. Who I shall call Leonard. Leonard the artsy squirrel who shits quirky characters no one really wants to watch a movie about...and sits in the sun, obscuring whatever. LENS FLARE! Wha-pow! Eh, maybe not as bad as I made it out to be, but I've heard nothing but good things about this movie for years and was pretty surprised this is what it turned out to be. |
Re: Last movies you saw
[Rec] (2007). 8/10.
Awesome and incredibly scary movie. If you're into horror movies, I really really recommend it. It's actually better than the stuff I've seen from Hollywood lately. Oh but you'll have to watch it with subs, because it's Spanish. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Kicking and Screaming
Noah Baumbach's first movie...Not bad, not great either. He directed it when he was 25, so that's not much of a surprise really. Very funny and witty dialogue and not much else, but that was also kind of the point, so it was pretty well done. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Tangled
Standard fairytale fare but I absolutely loved the character interactions. Great expressions all around. And probably the funniest animation I've seen that didn't resort to pop culture for its humor. |
Re: Last movies you saw
This is just awkward... but Tangled... wonder why Danny watched it. :P
This is classic Disney through and through and aside from the magic tears (ARGH) was a fantastic movie! |
Re: Last movies you saw
10 Things I Hate About You. 6/10.
|
Re: Last movies you saw
Just saw Rango. 9/10
Loved the adult humor and movie references. |
Re: Last movies you saw
How To Train Your Dragon. 8/10
Awesome movie! I wish I had seen it in 3D (like you advised me to) :(. |
Re: Last movies you saw
The Third Man (1949) - It started a bit slow but Orsen Wells is f'ing cool. Selling contaminated medicine tsk tsk. 8.5 on imdb so you have an idea...
The Night of the Hunter - Watched it again. Its a creepy stalking movie. Pretty cool, making me look forward to Cape Fear with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum as the villain again. The King's Speech - Rush was good as usual. Captivating enough movie all around. I don't know about best picture...I felt True Grit was better overall but, can't give to the Coens every time. Chronicles of Narnia VOTDT - Crap. The 80's lowbudge was a better adaption. Sin Nombre - 2009 about a girl traveling north from El Salvador or Hondorus...one of those countries. Good for the visceral shock of the gangs. Not sure if i mentioned, Exit Through the Gift Shop - Its the street art movie that you've probably heard of. Interesting given the social context and the inclusion of banksy. I really like his UK work. Black Swan - haha Vincent Cassel's character was comedy gold! The movie did a good job of making me squirm. Sick cool stuff that had a lot of the uncomfortable elements of Requiem for a Dream but less down and out drugged. Natalie was excellent. |
Re: Last movies you saw
I watched The Source Code earlier. I really liked Moon (both directed by Duncan Jones), so I was excited for this. It was okay. It wasn't nearly as good as Moon, but I enjoyed it. The thing that really knocked it down a few pegs was the ending. I was actually really glad about the ending for a while. It looked like it was going to end on a positive note without having everything ever going the best way possible, but then it kept going. I don't want to say too much so as not to spoil it, though.
Overall, though, I enjoyed watching it and recommend you see it. If you're a fan of Moon, though, I would lower my expectations a little bit before entering the theatre. |
Re: Last movies you saw
The Book of Eli. 7.5/10
Enjoyable apocalyptic story, decent acting. Ginkasa, thank you for keeping my hopes down. I loved Moon and the trailer of The Source Code looked interesting (it's the one with the train, right?). I'll watch it eventually, but I won't expect a master piece like Moon. :) Speaking of which... I told my brother to watch Moon because it was really good. Because of that, he thought it was decent. I shouldn't have said anything. :( |
Re: Last movies you saw
Get Low - 2009
Robert Duball, Bill Murray This film was pretty good. I'd recommend it for my dad. It's about a man who's been a hermit for 20+ years.. -Bube, have you seen 3 Monkeys (2008) ? It's from Turkey so I though you might have heard/seen it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1233381/ also, this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0880502/ |

I watch Titanic last night its amazing movie really.....

Re: Last movies you saw
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen - Terry Gilliam's. I just couldn't get into this one. I looooved the German make from the 30's or 40's. So full of that aryan shit. Good movie. Gilliam's just seemed empty. Uma Thurman younged!
The Natural -- Robert Redford as an oldy rookie. I have a special place for retro baseball. Lucky Strike advertisements and simpler times. Good movie just a little bit tooo long. Syriana -- It was ok. Can't say I was paying attention. Political plot driven Rogue Male --Peter O'Toole makes any movie great. British gentleman attempts to assassinate Hitler. Road to Perdition - - - Saw this again. Some nicely shot scenes. The ending was so fucking predictable, I would have preferred to have seen a well choreographed fight instead. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Just saw Sucker Punch and I have to say I am rather disappointed. I'm not sure what I was expecting from it exactly but I thought it would be better.
It felt like it was trying to be really artsy and it was obvious that it was trying... If that makes any sense |

Re: Last movies you saw
Erin Brockovich. 7.5/10
Way different than I expected. I think I expected some half-funny, half-sad story about a poor mom with 3 kids. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Source Code
The good: ![]() Seriously, <3. The movie itself was scrapping the bottom of the barrel as far as "science fiction" goes. It also went for the Hollywood, happy-ending money shot. And all within the last like 2.5 minutes too. Bleh. Crappy writing aside, the cinematography was beautiful. Chicago represent. And the Metra, woot woot! I ride the Metra (train) frequently, and I thought they did a wonderful job. Saw Machete. Typical Rodriguez fluff with a few moments that were simply awesome. One such moment occurred in the hospital and... -Non sequitur- Rodriguez knows how to make entertaining hospital scenes. Amirite? Of course I am. Planet Terror, Machete, Once Upon a Time in Mexico...give the man an Academy Award for amusing scenes that take place in hospitals. -Non sequitur- ...the other fun little twist in Machete was an appearance by Lindsay Lohan. Good stuff. I also watched The Tourist. What an awful piece of shit. The chemistry was not there to make this slow thriller gel....just watch Mr. and Mrs. Smith for real chemistry and look elsewhere for a subtle thriller film. |
Re: Last movies you saw
I watched Predators last weekend.
Really awesome movie. The first Predator movie that stands up the original, and is actually better in a lot of ways. |
