Re: Last movies you saw
Who Am I - Jackie Chan film, most fans would have seen this by now; somehow it's taken me this long. Excellent film. Some bad-bad guy acting but good 2 on 1 fight near the end and decent production. I highly recommend this metaphoricalfull Jackie Chan beauty from 1998.

Re: Last movies you saw
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - I liked it even though not much actually happened.
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies Pros: Beautiful backgrounds. Solid voice acting. Cons: Everything else. I was so bored watching this I had to take a break in the middle. It's only an hour long so that's saying something. The entire movie is basically one big slugfest, which wouldn't have been so bad if the animation was any good. Horrible character designs that moved chunkily through monotonous fight scenes. (Minor grievance but they changed the ending from the comic taking the glory away from my boy Captain Atom. Can't a nuclear man get any love?) |
Re: Last movies you saw
Star Wars movies in HD.
Especially episode 4 got a lot more emotional after the first 3. Other thoughts: Can't believe how boring 1 and 2 are. They don't have any emotion. It's only a blast and saber fest, nothing more. Those actors didn't act. 3 finally got some emotion into the play, mostly when Anakin turns evil. 5 is overrated. Some parts are pretty slow. 6 is still my favorite. I think. |

I thought it was okay, but expected more of a slugfest, most of the fights were over too fast. At least they had the robot! |
Re: Last movies you saw
Was gonna see Surrogates but it was opening night and the movie isn't getting great reviews so I didn't feel getting to the theater early for tickets....so saw Julie and Julia. It's a good thing Amy Adams is a very charming actress because the "Julie" part of the movie is no where as interesting as the "Julia Child" part. Speaking of "Julia Child," Meryl Streep really nailed the role in my opinion....if you haven't seen Julia Child's cooking show on TV I would recommend it as a starting point before you consider the movie. Meryl Streep is such a good actress. How does she do it?

Re: Last movies you saw
I caught a double feature of The Unknown and Freaks, both films directed by Tod Browning in the late 20's/early 30's.
Both stories center around circus and sideshow performers, with Freaks actually using real siamese twins, little people, a man who was only a torso, people with no arms, etc. actual sideshow performers of the day. Going into it, I thought it would be very exploitive of the "freaks", but they were actually the heroes of the film and the "normal" people being the evildoers. It was surprisingly intense and way better than I expected. The Unknown was a bit more silly, but starred a deranged Lon Chaney and a super hot young Joan Crawford. Something about those flapper girls...total babes. The best part about the screening was that they had a live piano player improvise a score during the film (it is a silent flick). That kind of stuff is just really cool. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Carriers (I pronounced it as 'carreers' (in Dutch) but I don't think the cashier got the joke ;)) 7/10
Pretty enjoyable movie about 4 friends who try to survive in a post-pandemic world. If you get infected you die, so you stay away from all the ill people. You don't help them, because they're basically already dead. Has some good scenes, but I didn't care one bit for the characters. Bedtime Stories 8/10 Saw this with 5 friends on Bluray. Adam Sandler is a likable guy and the 2 children were funny. A feel-good family movie. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Saw The Informant last night with Fox.
Great movie. One of the funniest I have seen this year. Matt Damon did a great job |
Re: Last movies you saw
Yes, a very funny movie.
That being said, it better to go into it knowing as little as possible about the story. I knew some of his secret motives going in, and it kinda knocked the wind out of the sails. |

Well then, I guess everything is wrapped up in a neat little package!
+ rep for anyone that gets the Simpsons reference :p |
Re: Last movies you saw
I've seen every Simpsons episode (+movie), but I did not get it. :(

Re: Last movies you saw
Blindness.
I actually liked it a lot. I thought it was really well done, true to the novel for the most part, and had none of those terrible dialogue metaphors that explain what's going on despite the fact you're watching it. I will also say that the very end of the movie gave me a chill down my spine. Personally, I recommend it. Rent it, not buy it. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Eagle Eye.
This movie isn't what I was expecting. I will ruin parts of the story, so stop reading if you plan on seeing it for whatever reason. Anyways, I thought it was about a group of people controlling what happens via satellites. Not at all. Starts off with the government relying on a computer analysis to make sure a person in the middle east is actually the terrorist they are looking for - the computer says it's 51% probable, but doesn't agree with continuing the mission. The president says to send a missile to the group of people, and they subsequently die. Countless suicide bombings happen at American embassies and many people die. So after that, the basis of the movie is the AI (that said not to attack the terrorist, because it wasn't him) is using the Constitution (Specifically the part that says if any government puts its people in irreparable harm, the people of that government are allowed to overthrow it) to ratify the idea of this major plot to kill the top 12 - or so - people at the head of American government [via an impromptu militia of people doing seemingly random things to them], leaving the secretary of defense - the person who disagreed with the presidents option of killing the "terrorist", thusly agreeing with the AI, as the new President of the United States. I find the concept pretty neat, and the AI (voiced by Julianne Moore) a cross between Glados and Hal. It's pretty good, I thought. You just have to deal with Shia The Beef for a while. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Knowing.
Jeeeesus Nicholas Cage just keeps going farther down the drain for me. The disasters that occur were amazing visually. I was surprised at how good things look, but it gets to the point where I can't stand the completely retarded secondary plot that becomes the cause of everything. It's sci-fi retardation. It really is. |
Re: Last movies you saw
A Scanner Darkly 6.5/10
It was worth watching because of the visual style. The rest was pretty boring. |

Myeah I guess it has a decent story... in the end. But it's not one of those "Woah this is so unexpected and shocking!"-endings. I couldn't care much about it.
Acting was pretty good too I guess. Nothing special though. |
Re: Last movies you saw
I actually found a lot of humor in it from how messed up those people were due to the drugs.

Re: Last movies you saw
Shortbus
"A group of New Yorkers get caught up in their romantic-sexual milieu converge at an underground salon infamous for its blend of art, music, politics, and carnality." Sounds good right? Well, this came up on one of my roomies netflix recommendations list and she decided to add it. Low and behold it ended up being a very odd, homoerotic, nudity filled film that made me look away from the screen much more often than I anticipated...yet in the end, gave off a very "Christmasy" vibe after much turmoil and noise had dissipated. Just know that within the first 5 mins of the movie you will see three penises, one of which is that of a man who jerks off INTO his mouth....no lie...:ohreilly: |
Re: Last movies you saw
In Bruges. 8/10.
Great acting by Colin Farrell. I barely recognized him. And European cities are always interesting. Star Trek: Insurrection. 6/10. Blech I don't like Star Trek. Patrick Stewart and the weird skin-stretching race were the only things that made it interesting. Oh, it's very predictable. Halfway through you can already see most details of the ending coming. Edit: A Scanner Darkly's bike gear scene was great. :D |
Re: Last movies you saw
You should read the book. The movie took a few scenes and plays them out in full (like with the bike) but cuts out a lot that would make it easier to follow.

Re: Last movies you saw
La Haine - 1995 Vincent Cassel n crew as hoods in Paris following a police brutality induced riot. It was entertaining enough.
doberman - 1997 V.C. again in a rather bad B action exploit. Monica Belucci plays the mute chica to Vince's gangster role. If you want pointlessness to drive you for a while watch this. Sword of doom - 1966 Kihachi Okamoto Rather bleak chop film. Follows an evil protagonist, high body count. The sword action isn't the best, good film though. Style! |
Re: Last movies you saw
Sllumdog Millionaire- Really good movie, much better than the Wrestler... but what the hell with the random dance number at the end?
|
Re: Last movies you saw
Bollywood tradition.
|
Re: Last movies you saw
Dance number was great.
Lets see, Saw Zombieland on the weekend. Rather fun. Saw Pi last week sometime. It was good, but I will need to rewatch. And saw Audition on the weekend. Love Miike's stuff |

Sleeping Beauty
Oozing with style. Such a pretty film. The story is pretty bland but the great animation and backgrounds help make up for it. And Maleficent is hot. ![]() Need to catch up on other Disney animated films I haven't seen in their entirety. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
I really liked it. Non-stop action, great characters, and it had a Mike Mignola feel to the designs. I didn't notice until 3/4 of the way in that it was completely without any musical numbers. And it guest stared a certain losing monster from our Monster Wars. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Treasure Planet
I'm not familiar with Treasure Island but I quite enjoyed Silver's portrayal in this movie. Definitely the most three dimensional character. Animation-wise I preferred the hard-edged characters in Atlantis. The characters and shading were a bit too soft for my liking. The doc was animated particularly well though. And the few running scenes where the camera was directly behind or in front were impressive. Martin Short's character was painfully annoying, but thankfully didn't receive too much screen time. On to the next Disney film! |
Re: Last movies you saw
Yay, watching Disney films you never saw is fun. :)
Mongol. 8/10. Story about the beginning of Genghis Khan's life. Supposed to be the first one of a trilogy, so it doesn't cover the battles outside of Mongolia. Watch it in Mongolian with subtitles. Edit: I thought this girl was gorgeous. ![]() Oh yeah: Identity (again). 9/10 (up from 8/10). Great movie, nice even when you've already seen it (and know the clue). |
Re: Last movies you saw
The Black Cauldron
Rescuing princess? check Master Sword? check Breaking pots? check Evil wizard? check Fairies? check Traveling through woods and dungeons? check Trading with witches? check Skeleton warriors? check The two main characters seem like prototypes for Link and Zelda. Pretty dark for a Disney movie. |
Re: Last movies you saw
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
So very very pretty. Especially this scene: I was beginning to think no Disney movies had shading on the characters after the couple of movies I just saw. Though if you notice the people in the background, they're some sad dancing CGI. Impressive for '96 I suppose...and the confetti hides them...confetti! |
Re: Last movies you saw
I started watching Akira, but I fell asleep. (Well, almost. I still was awake enough to turn the movie off and crawl into bed.)
I'll finish it later. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Lethal Weapon 1-4
If I had to judge, I would say they go in order of quality, though 1 and 2 are really close, and 3 is pretty good, but has some problems. 4 isn't bad, but it just wears thin with Chris Rock and Joe Pesci playing loudmouths. Watched it over the past week, first time seeing them all fully. |
Re: Last movies you saw
Took a break from Disney to watch Pumpkinhead for a weekly sketch group. Meh movie. Awesome monster.
Had to draw either Pumpkinhead, a werewolf, or Elvira. ![]() |
