Hopefully the government steps in like they keep saying they will. We need government support to get rid of all the spam out there.

In Holland companies get fined for spam. But we get most spam from the US anyway. :(

Are you sure that spelling is a sign of inteligence? Especially on the net??
If I make spelling errors you will consider me a less inteligent pearson. That's just wrong (and stupid) thinking.

Re: Am I the only one?

I totally agree with Dyne about the shortening of words.. like "thx", "wut", "ur", "2".

Is it really that hard to type a couple extra letters?

The main abbreviations I use on the net are "lol" (which, when I use it, I am never ever actually laughing... like GM said it just keeps the conversation going), "brb", and then abbreviations for video games.

Re: Am I the only one?

Exactly my point.
I always welcome someone correcting my spelling, that's a good thing. But thinking that I'm not intelligent because of it it's stupid not just because spelling could come from careless typing, but also because it might just be that I (which it actually is) am not a native english speaking person, as well as more than 70% of people on the net. So determining my intligence by how bad I type and know a 2nd or 3rd language leads you to great errors in calculations.
You can see misspeling as a stupid person, or as typo's or bad english knowledge; you can see in using keyboard shortcuts for writing as a leasy person, or as a buissy person, or even a person trying to be funny or friendly.

In conclusion, you have the right to not like something, and the right to correct me when I and many others do mistake in english, but don't start judge me by this.

It's not about THAT, I'm saying that I don't like people who don't take the time to read what they're saying before they say it.

For instance, I actually missed two words (tkae te time) in that last sentence. But I corrected them. And you spelled intelligence wrong again.

Re: Am I the only one?

Well, I always give Mike the benefit of the doubt, like he said he isn't a native speaker of English, so you only help him when you correct him.

I never did get the point on judging someone's intelligence based solely on how they speak though. I know some rather smart people who talk with all the net-sense, just because it's simpler.

Like I said I've become accustomed to using "ur" "2" (sometimes it's just so weird), 1, and all other nifty abbreviations, not because mesa so dumb can't spell full word, it's just so much easier to type a few characters less. Even if the save is just one or two. Same way I can call Xantar, Xanny even if they are one character shorter. But I take that as a sign of no one's intelligence.

Now if they make no coherent thought in their writing, that's a whole different ball game.

Re: Am I the only one?

Just rememberd that I do use three abbreviations quite often.

IMO
brb
and gtg

The last two are used when in a rush, and the first is just handy.

Re: Am I the only one?

I don't mind some abbreviations. I try not to use shorthand too much, but sometimes it's needed. If I am multi-tasking, it makes things hell of a lot easier for me. Of course I'm talking about real acronyms, not 12 year old AOL speak. I hate that.

I agree bab.. I mean you all probably think that hero2 is not very brite because of the way he types on his computer. But I'll have you know he was only one semester shy of having his ccna before deciding to become a cook.. I know from time to time I spell things wrong but drop if you judge on the way a person types or on if they use abbv's to get their thoughts out. I don't think you'll make it in the corporate world ;)

Re: Am I the only one?

Spelling is often a choice you make I think.
If I wanted I could make things messy and you'd still understand, but I choose to spell correctly. :)

Of course there are people who just can't do any better.... No offense then, I don't mean you.
