Invites are random from what I've heard

Man, I haven't seen an uproar over something like this since the whole Reggie/E3 era. I'd even go as far as to call this a fad frenzy!

Yeah, 'cause E3 was so long ago

I don't know. A gig of webmail with no gimmicks. I think that's something to get worked up about.

Re: Gmail Invitations

Not to me, i have no use for emails, since i rarely get any, and the ones i get i save to the hard drive if i like then, i delete them anyways, this isnt high on my " i want it now" list.

damnit GM.

And I've heard that the condition is that google scans the emails sent to you and throws out an add on the side that corresponds with the content. Not sure if it's true or not.

Oh, and if anyone has a gmail yet....get me in so I can pass it on to other gt members. gahhh.

GameMaster 06-15-2004 02:22 AM

Re: Gmail Invitations

They haven't given me invitation access yet, but when they do, I'll pay it foward to you.

thatmariolover 06-15-2004 03:30 AM

Re: Gmail Invitations

Yeah, they do. But it's an automated computer script, so it's not like somebody's reading your email. And it's no worse than a banner add from Hotmail.

Jonbo298 06-15-2004 03:31 AM

Re: Gmail Invitations

People complain too much about the scanning. A remote computer only reads the text. It doesnt keep your personal info. on file and sell it.

And plus, if you dont want your email's scanned, you know what you do? DONT USE GMAIL THEN. ITS THAT SIMPLE

thatmariolover 06-15-2004 03:34 AM

Re: Gmail Invitations

Exactly. The point is, we know they're doing it, and we're using the program anyway. That's how we're consenting to them doing it. I couldn't care less. It's the same thing as any other free email system does and I get 500x the storage Hotmail gives me.

Re: Gmail Invitations

And it seems like in an effort to increase competition.

Yahoo has increased it's mailbox size from 6MB to 100 MB.

So I went to bed using 85% of my mailbox, woke up tis morning with more mail, but only using 5%, but till would want a G-Mail account.

And of course Yahoo does this after I deleted some important e-mails.. bums

And there new "streamlined" interface seems to be slower and a lot more problem ridden for me. It stopped responding twice while I was just checking if I had mail

i was thinking about wanting gmail because of the extra storage space. then I got up this morning and yahoo had upped the storage space so I was happy. but then, it kept giving me lots of trouble....

moral of the story, can I have an invite from someone?

Eventually, I hope Google's mail service can be configured for desktop mail programs. I like my Mail application, I use it to retrieve my mail from my primary Comcast account. It's much cleaner and neater than the messy online place. But GMail's mail center so far, is very neat also.

I believe you get three invites to start and then additional invites as time goes on. It took a few days for my three invites to show up.

Yeah, I've had my account sense yesterday, and no invites as of yet.

Why is Entourage better than Mail, you trader!

gekko 06-19-2004 05:06 PM

Re: Gmail Invitations

Why? How many reasons do you want? :D

Here's the stuff I like more...
  • Does a better job with HTML messages
  • Better folder layout
  • 3 column view is teh ****
  • Grouping mail is a godsend
  • I like the built-in calendar better than iCal
  • Linked items
  • Notes and task lists
  • Doesn't automatically download pictures (faster)
  • Redirecting messages

When I recommend a Microsoft product, you know it's good.

How do you get invites?

Not surprised I haven't got one, I haven't even sent a message with that account yet.

Re: Gmail Invitations

This whole Gmail thing has caused quite an uproar in people, and i dont understand why.

So what you get more space. Woo hoo.

If you like a picture or file or perhaps a letter you like, copy it, thats what i do, and you dont hear me begging for Gmail.

Im super content with my hotmail account thatnk you very much.

gekko 06-20-2004 03:25 PM

Re: Gmail Invitations

Because you get a gig of space. I only get 100MB from my ISP, granted everything gets saved on my computer...

1GB is a lot of space. You never have to delete your trashed mail, meaning when you want that one message that you deleted 6 months ago, it's still there. And all this for free.

GameMaster 06-20-2004 03:27 PM

Re: Gmail Invitations

I wish I could use some of the 1GB to host pictures and movies.

Typhoid 06-20-2004 03:30 PM

Re: Gmail Invitations

So your telling me i get 1 gig of potential junk mail i dont want anyways!?!?!? Sweet deal.

And i would have to delete my trashed mail, or else it wouldnt be trashed mail.
You must be some kinda people to need 1GB of space on your computer, thats like, alot of porn that you people are subscribing to.

gekko 06-20-2004 03:47 PM

Re: Gmail Invitations

Do you never save mail? I generally have a ton of saved mail on my computer. Everything from newsletters to order conformations and account information. Some email is good to keep around.

I'm going to agree with gekko. (write this moment down, please.)

How can you NOT love a gig of free storage? A gig is a whole lot of space, my friend. I too wish, like GM said, that I could use it to host movies/pics/etc, but, that's what my graffiti.net account is for.

I used to subscribe to the nintendo newsletters, and a few other cool ones, but they ate up my space, so I had to delete them quite frequently. But now that I have a free gig of space, I'm highly considering going and signing back up for some newsletters again (provided that they dont send me junk mail.) There are a few cool newsletters out there.

Plus, back when I was really into FFXI, Crono used to send me tons of screenshots to my hotmail account. Sometimes though, my space would fill up, and I couldnt hold any more, and I would have to clean out my inbox (deleting things I would rather keep) in order to get the pictures. If I had had gmail back then, I would never have had to worry about such a thing.

Plus, so far, I have yet to recieve a single piece of spam while using Gmail. I love it. Plus, the conversation based format kicks butt. No longer do I have to sift through a messege to find who was saying what.

Classic Rocker 06-20-2004 04:59 PM

Re: Gmail Invitations

Gmail looks sweet, but unfortuantly nobody invited me to the service, which is ok with me. I normally don't recieve newsletters and news in general to my email account. All I use it for is to subscribe to forums and to communicate with people, usually sending them data about stuff.
