Ok back to the real topic!

This just in the 2006 date which has been going around the net for PD0 is total crap!!!! Like when as Rare ever given out launch dates?

The story appears to have come about after one website ran a jokey comment in reference to the game's release, which appears to have been taken rather too seriously by some of the other games sites out there.

We called Microsoft to find out more, where a spokesperson told us that no date has been officially announced. So then we turned our attentions to Rare, and stunningly, the shrinking violet of the development world actually spoke to us...

"We're just not putting a date on Perfect Dark yet. Anything you read on a website is speculation, we're still in the process of getting the game ready," said Production Assistant Andy Wilson, earlier this morning.

When asked when we could expect to hear more news or see media from the game, Wilson told us: "Well, there's E3 next year, or there's the X0 conferences, they're the big ones." We also asked Wilson if he could at least confirm that we wouldn't have to wait for Perfect Dark until 2006, but the cagey Wilson refused to be drawn.

"I won't commit to a date. We know when we're aiming for, but we're not ready to reveal that date yet. We've got other games in the works that are going to be appearing first and we want to concentrate on those."

So that's it then - nothing official, but if the game is shown at next year's E3, we could expect to see the title as early as Christmas 2004, though a more realistic date is probably Easter 2005. Knowing Rare, of course, it'll probably turn up in 2007, exclusively on GameCube 2.

I hope the last word and number in that quote is a typo. Since I doubt Rare would jump ship that fast unless MS hit a humongous wall and had to leave the gaming industry.....

Nah, then it would just be exclusive to PC ;)

MS owns Rare. Rare can't just 'jump ship'. The employees would all have to quit their jobs and either form another company or apply to work for another gaming studio. I don't see that happening anytime soon. MS is probably supplying them with anything they want.

Knowing the CVG lads they are probably being very sarcastic there as always.

By the way: IMO, I still think Nintendo was smart to drop Rare. I don't think it was worth it for Nintendo when Rare released a game every two years (yes, exageration, but you get the point). Which, IMO, got worse and worse as the N64's life cycle was ending. Just my opinion though.

I don't understand how this news could possibly excite a Nintendo fanboy; this doesn't come as bad news to me at all... Imagine if Perfect Dark Zero is a launch title for the next Xbox console (that would be huge). Seems I already have a reason to buy the next Xbox console.

And at least Xbox has some good FPS titles as we speak (only on Xbox), and Halo 2, Unreal II, Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 are all coming to Xbox within the next year... Let's see GameCube or PS2 match that.

Since MS wants to keep Halo 2 hype in full force, they hold off with PD until a launch game to get people to purchase the next Xbox, then announce Halo 3 to get more people to buy it and you have many people who will buy it.
