Re: 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs
Is keeping Schneider not an option?
I feel so bad for Luongo. If he wasn't a stand-up guy it would be another thing, but he really doesn't deserve the constant flack he gets (it also surely doesn't help his confidence at all). |

The thing is that Schneider's contract is up this year and he's a restricted free agent (opposed to unrestricted) - so only the Canucks have the right to renew his contract (until a specific date), or offer him a new one. He still has the right to sign or not sign - but if he decides its in his best interest to wait for another team to sign him to an offer sheet (which the Canucks would then have to match, or accept draft pick compensation) - which he will probably do, then there's no real way we can keep him. The reason I think he's gone is because statistically he could be making millions and millions. On almost any other team he's a starting goalie. I can see a team trying to sign him for 3-4 million, depending on the team and the cap floor they're at - but if that happens, the Canucks wouldn't/couldnt match that offer - because you don't want to pay 3 million for a backup goalie. Unless they match it with the intention of trading Luongo later in the next season. Public opinion has definitely been known to sway trades and team makeup. Quote:
People just don't give him credit. I don't understand it. He does something bad, it's 100% his fault. Something good happens near him, it's 100% in spite of him. I probably have said this exact same thing in here already, but fuck it - I'll do it again - hasn't stopped me before. I'll find a ridiculous stat from the Olympics - which has not translated into any praise for him, because goalies can't score game winning goals. Brodeur started the Olympics and was completely shitting the bed for a superstar Canadian goaltender who is supposed to be leaps and bounds above Roberto Luongo. Canada was in a hole because of Martin Brodeur. Martin Brodeur's 2012 Olympic Stats: 2 games played 1 Win 1 Loss 0 Shutouts 2.90 G.A.A. In steps Roberto Luongo; The eternal goat, to save the day. Roberto Luongo's 2012 Olympic stats: 5 games played 5 wins 0 Losses 1 shutout 1.76 G.A.A. Someone might look at that and say "Well maybe the team was playing better" - to which I retort; 'feck off'. The team definitely did play better as a whole. But that probably has something to do with the fact that it's a hell of a lot easier to win when your goalie is letting in well-under 2 goals a game opposed to almost 3. Where was Brodeur when the gold was won? The bench. Where was Lou? Protecting that mofuggin' net. As a Canucks fan I'm so afraid all the bandwagonners will force a Luongo trade. Luongo is the best thing to happen to this team in the crease. Who was our Superstar goalie before Lou? Mclean? Potvin? Cloutier? Irbe? Weekes? Ha-fucking-ha. All of our goalies have realistically fucking sucked in comparison to the league at the time. We finally get an amazing goalie and we hold the shitty underdog standards we had for those other poop-chuckers onto him. Lou is not an underdog. He does not play like an underdog. He is an Adonis. He is a living sculpture of perfection - so long as he is treated as such. I'm sick of the "we as fans expect him to do so much better" excuse. He is amazing. Look at his stats. Edit: And all I have to say about the loss is that they clearly didn't deserve to win with the way they were playing. They only played playoff hockey once, and it happened to be the game they won. The winners win, the losers lose. No undeserving team wins. It's as simple as that, and I truly believe it. |
Re: 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs
News is this morning, Luo just asked Gillis for a trade out.
.... fuckkkk, no bargaining power. Can't see them getting much for a luo + raymond deal. I don't blame Luongo for wanting out of the city. Shneider won't be cheap either.. ![]() |
Re: 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs
Lou didn't ask for a trade.
There is no controversy. Gillis asked Luongo and Schnieder if they'd both start 41 games. |
