Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

I think the game definitely needs some tweaking.

It seems the whole outcome is purely based on people's suspicions and how people are perceived.

Maybe that's the point?

But it was more fun pretending to be a bad guy for one round and getting voted out than it would have been spending each round making a case for why I'm good and shouldn't be voted out.

*shrugs*

Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

Why did Bond and Vamp trust you anyway? What if you were mafia, then it would have been game over for the villagers. I know I never fully trusted you... At one point me and Thatmariolover were even pretty sure you and Bond were mafia.

Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

I suppose giving everyone a more unique PM or having more special abilities than the three would have stopped the keyword system. But yeah, BAB never demanded...just prompted I should say.

And I entered the circle of trust right when it ended...ah well.

Because the rewards outweigh the risks. The only way for the good guys to win is to form a large enough alliance first that has a voting majority, and the players with powers. If this can't be done, the good guys will lose.

Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

Eh. I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as I usually do. Namely because I wasn't trusted by BaB, and Dyne never looked at me to confirm. So it's not like it was something that could be avoided easily. But it's hard not to feel resentful when I really wasn't allowed to participate, even if it was for a good reason.

:D

Oh Snap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BaB and I formed a trust by making a pact. If one of us turned out to be mafia, that person would have had to do vodka shots through the nose. After Babs dies, Dyne used his powers to confirm.

Angrist 12-27-2008 04:35 PM

Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

Btw I was actually honored that Typhoid killed me in the end. :D Dyne couldn't take the lead on this one, because he would probably reveal his role.

I thought it was a fun game, but I missed the classical speculation. This was just a matter of voting off people without any explanation.

That's usually the problem with the good guys.
The bad guys start the game organized, they know who they can trust. Good guys have to point fingers while the baddies create misdirection

I tried to explain this on AIM, but it isn't anything personal. The seer can only Seer 1 person a round, and it shouldn't be all wasted on finding people to ally with.

With his first Seer, Dyne found Manasecret, which allowed us to gain an early advantage. With the rest of his Seer, he found no Mafia, but formed an alliance that would have the majority vote if it came down to that.

The good thing about Dyne not influencing others was that he, much like myself, trusted Typhoid.

Lucky enough for the good guys, Typhoid and I guess Jeepnut, decided to kill me off so I could no longer protect him from suspicion. :p

Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

Oh thank God I can stop the rhyming.

I enjoyed the game and was actually surprised that none of the attempts to accuse me didn't take, especially since I'm an outsider to the group in general. I'm not sure if that was BaB doing or not, but I agree that he never asked the screen cap. He just asked me if I had a role. I responded by saying I was just a plain ol' villager and he welcomed me into the fold. Which is within the rules, I believe.

And TML, I always trusted you. Based solely on how you voted and how the mafia who were killed voted, I knew you had to be one of the good guys.

And I likewise explained that it doesn't really matter. I didn't take it personally, I'm just disappointed that I didn't get to participate. You guys obviously didn't do anything wrong.

I think you just have a hard time seeing from my viewpoint because you were in on everything and made an executive decision to leave people out until they were trusted. Which is neat, it helped you win. But that tactic alienates people and ultimately kills the fun unless you're in on it. I've never felt Mafia was about winning, it's about playing.

I had an okay time this round of Mafia. I think the villagers just got a little lucky this time. I really didn't know who was and who wasn't and Jeepnut and Typhoid were kind of surprises to me. I was Seen by Dyne at some point, so that helped me join the "good" alliance and know what we were dealing with...

I actually had a lot of suspicion of Jeepnut and Typhoid. Jason and Mana was a big surprise to me though.

Some big luck.
Found out Mafia wanted to kill me in round 2, but since Jeepnut missed the vote by 3 mins I was spared, wonder how different the game would have turned out.

Though still had Bond to continue my legacy.

I got the impression that the mafia was busy in real life or something.

Anyway, best game is still the first one, The Thing. :)

Thanks Dylflon for hosting this one!!

I'm going to run another conversion game.

The Thing Mafia really was the best.

What possessed you to Seer me first, Dyne?

Angrist 12-30-2008 11:09 AM

Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

Yeah and why me second? Were we suspicious? And why did you never contact me?

Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

There honestly wasn't much to go off of first, so I can't really say. Same for you, Angrist. This was my first real role as anything in Mafia so I played it by ear at the beginning.

That's the nice thing about the Seer role - whatever you do has no consequences. Nobody dies. And you get to find out who to trust and who to kill. It's win-win.

No one trusts you because you trust no one.
I believe he told me he thought you were acting suspicious which you tend to do when trying to figure people out.

And I'm all for a conversion Mafia though think personally may sit the next few out so I can avoid trouble.

Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

I'd love another conversion Mafia. I didn't get to participate much in this one, because I was vigilanted but also because I was out of town, and even then the good guys won quite quickly and the game ended much quicker than all the others.

Think the next one will be soon, Dylflon?

The good guys lost the conversion Mafia.

That's where Vamp gets his rep for tricking people from.

Avoid trouble? I know I gave you a hard time, but I didn't mean all of it. ;)

Re: Mafia Round 5 - Christmas Edition

Just happened to come across this manga in which a group of people play a game of Mafia.

Quote:

There's a game going around Japan called 'Rabbit Doubt'. The premise of the game is that all of the players are rabbits in a colony, and one amongst them is randomly chosen to be a wolf that infiltrated the group of rabbits. Every round, the wolf kills off a rabbit, and every round, the group tries to figure out which of the rabbits is actually a wolf in disguise. Sometimes the kids who play this game decide to meet up in person, and Yuu, Mitsuki, Rei, Hajime, Eiji, and Haruka have done just that. Unfortunately, one of them has decided to take on the mantle of the wolf and has already killed once. Who is the wolf, and can they be stopped before everyone meets a very unpleasant end?
