Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
The Heavy should have a special ability (bulimia) to make him faster for a short period of time.

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
I can't stand playing as a heavy because he is too freakin' slow. There are days when I can't stand playing as a soldier either...sometimes it is nice to have the mobility of a Scout or a Pyro.
Heavys are good for rushing capture points, and they make a decent mobile defense when defending capture points. Of course, a Heavy without a Medic is mostly useless. of course...i never play as a Heavy so maybe I underestimate the value of the class...I just know that I've beat down my fair share of fatties with the baseball bat. |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
I agree, KG. I consider TF2 a fairly fast-paced game, and the Heavy just kind of ruins it for me. Nothing worse than having to slowly walk to the second control point where the rest of your team already was 10 seconds ago.
|
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
there was a bug in the pc version when it first came out. and people eploited this glitch and were able to make the heavy run fast, he was way way overpowered that way.

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
Regarding the Heavy, I think it depends. In most games, especially on consoles, you're dealing with people thrown together who aren't even attempting to work as a team.
BUT, in the rare cases you have a solid unit, Heavy/Medic, Pyro, Soldier, Spy combo is devastating. Hell, just a Heavy/Medic and Spy is devastating to any set of defenses is run correctly. As for the difficukty argument, I sympatize with the controls adding difficulty if they're just difficult, but the console controls for TF2 are VERY balanced. Personally, I can't roll Sniper and be any good. I'm just not that dextrous. But I've played against Snipers who were nigh untouchable on the 360, to the point that one Sniper has changed the way a game of 2Fort or Dustbowl is played as they can pick apart people in mid-air even. If you can master the controls, its not simply difficult because of the controls, it becomes a part of mastery of those controls. My mind is more strategic than twitchy, so my talents lie in interesting offensive sentry placement. Ever get a fully upgraded sentry/dispenser and teleport up right outside the main spawn point of your enemy in 2Fort? I have... and its both hard as hell and HILARIOUS when you succeed. |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
heavy/medic combo isnt really that great.
for all out destruction, heavy/pyro is much better. for taking out a bunch of sentrys in a room, heavy/demoman cleans em up. i usually get upset seeing a medic uber a heavy... such a waste... |

If we're pairing medics with anyone solo, I'd go for Soldiers, or a heavy is the area your trying to clear is tight. The first cap in 2fort is an excellent example ofhoe devastating the heavy/medic uber combo can be. |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update

well im mainly talking about ubers.. now a medic staying behind a heavy and healing him works great and is what should be done. however once that uber is reached, you want it to count for the most devastation possible. and for that you need a pyro (or a demo if there's a lot of sentries) a soldier is good for the krits thing, (the other special instead of the uber... erm consoles don't have that update. but what it does is the medic can charge someone with a kritskrieg thing instead of the uber, so every shot is a critical) if there's a lot of people, use that on a soldier and he can clean up. or even a heavy, but only if a lot of people are there, it doesn't really help with sentries. |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
Uber Pyro rush, especially at the beginning of a match, is the best IMO. No one clears a place faster or sends people running faster. Only problem is if there's two or more SG's, they can push the pyro back.
|
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
yea. 2 close together sentries is about the pyros limit.. he can still push in and get to em, but it eats a lot of time to push close enough.

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
Yeah, Lumberyard looks awesome. Arena Mode is probably what I'm looking forward too most in the Heavy Update. I guess today we'll see what the Heavy's secondary is going to be.
It seems like it took them forever to update the site yesterday. |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
it did, they said it was delayed slightly on their forums. so it was later in the day.

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
Outdoor environments? With trees? Oh heeeeeeeeellllllllzzzz yes.
I think I am in love. |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
His new secondary weapon is the sandvich! he can stop and eat a sandvich whenever he likes. it heals 120 heath for him.
however takes 4 seconds to eat and can not do anything else while eating. Meet the Sandvich! http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/sandvich.htm |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
Hahaha, that is awesome. I'm glad Valve is retaining the humor with the Heavy.
|
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
There should be a vegetarian option.
|
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
honestly... i hardly ever use the shotgun when im heavy anyway.... and im always calling for a medic.... so swapping the shotgun for a sandwich really doesnt seem like a bad idea for me.

they kinda let it slip almost 2 weeks ago in some interview, that that's what it was, it was pretty much widely accepted by everyone who plays that it was going to be a sandwich. hehe |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
The nom noise that the Heavy makes while eating it is hilarious.
I was playing pyro earlier today, and I walked around a corner right when an enemy heavy started eating. There weren't many people on the map yet, so I stared at him for a second, then torched him. :D |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the arena gameplay....it's like Counter-Strike only with slightly weaker design elements. And, nothing is more boring than watching a fight between Heavy/Medic-Red vs. Heavy/Medic-Blue. No one dies...everyone sits around shooting at each other for 7 minutes...
Pyro and Solider are my two favorite arena classes. Pyro has speed and mobility, plus fire in close quarters is a real killer. The Solider is good because he can rocket jump, has range, and can kill pyros. |
Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
its more like rocket arena then it is counterstrike. kinda cuz thats where counterstike came from. hehe
its pretty fun, i like playing it while i wait to get into a server thats full. good little time killer. and someone is going to die between two heavy medics.. medics cant heal fast enough to keep em up. the new map with the new environment is a very fun map. and looks amazing. i really really hope they make a payload map in that environment soon. the scenery is beautiful, i took a screenshot (minus the hud) of the little cliff with the trees and the mountain in the background, made it my background. :D |

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
good news for 360.
problem is, and im sure valve knows this and is being forced to it cuz ms wont let it be a free update..... is that they will be splitting their userbase there will be many that wont get the update, and many more that will. so either both halves wont be able to play with each other, (first half definitely wont be able to play new maps) OR, which i'd hope they'd do would be to allow everyone to play together on maps they all have, and just have the new features unusable to people unless they purchase it. so you'll have people running around with the new weapons against people that cant get em because they didnt pay for update. which would make more people get the update to be on par. BTW, axtinguisher is really not that great.. sadly none of the pyros new weapons are an update anymore. the new flamethrower used to be good because it gave a health boost. but they took that away. so the new flamethrower just gives you crits from behind and doesnt have the air burst, but the air burst is far far more useful than having crits from behind. |
