maybe they've talked MS into it since.

altho the updates for TF2 would be FAR FAR FAR greater in size than that of l4d.

not sure if size has any thing to do with it. or maybe they can do it free but still are going to wait till they're all finished.

which honestly is a stupid idea to give 360 players the update at all at that point. because if some buy it, some done, you're splitting up the already small userbase on 360, and it will be harder to find matches.

I couldn't disagree with you more. While the usergroup on the 360 is comparatively small, when considering how long ago it came out it has a far larger user base than many other on-line games of similar age. But lets keep the word "small" in perspective. The Orage Box has sold close to 2 million console copies if not more. The platform is not something to be ignored because it's a "PC Game", whatever that means anymore.

Also, its 360 user base is very LOYAL. People play is DAILY. If you were to release the updates to the 360 and charged for them, I doubt it would split the user base at all, and most are rabid hardcore fans who are salivating for these updates and are willing to pay $10 for them.

In the end, the problem here is a lack of imagination. All Valve and Microsoft would have to do is develop a subscription system that would allow gamers to sign up for Orange Box/TF2 updates and then download them as they became available for a one time $10 fee, or have each update cost $2 a piece or so and download them ala carte.

In the eyes of many TF2 fans, both Valve and Microsoft come out looking bad, and a reasonable solution should have been derived a long time ago.

Re: GT TF2 Thread! "LAST ONE ALIVE SHUT THE DOOR!"

last i read, valve was pretty dead set on the updates being free.

and even so (while i do disagree with you on some of that, we'll leave it be) the fact is valve will still want to wait till they're all done before doing anything of an update on consoles. and to be honest, if the console users do get the updates, they would probably be better off getting them at the end.

a lot of this is more like a testing phase on pc. these updates cause balance issues, and render opposing classes much less effective until they get the update of thier own. then things are getting tweeked and changed with little updates after.
plus when they come out you get EVERYONE picking that class, which ruins the matches. fortunately on PC you can set servers to limit classes. so say a spy update comes out, instead of having 30 spies running around, you can limit them so only 4 on each team are allowed. (or less or more) As far as i know, you cant do that on consoles can you?

but if consoles do get the updates and valve works out a payment plan, i dont see it happening till after they've finalized these

Re: GT TF2 Thread! "LAST ONE ALIVE SHUT THE DOOR!"

The updates drove me away from playing TF2 online. After the Pyro update was 2 or 3 days old, I was wondering how people had fully upgraded characters. I just assumed some people are just "really good" or that Valve had been keeping tabs on stats the whole time.

I later found out that people have created "achievement servers" where you can go and just kill some bots on easy or something and get full achievements. I think it defeats the whole point of the system, and I think Valve should release the updates but get rid of the unlocking system.

Yup. A few bad apples ruins them all...

The thing is, I don't feel like stooping down to the "achievement server" level. And I know that I am better than a lot of these players...because A) I'm an arrogant prick, but B) I was pretty damn good at being a Spy/Soldier when I was playing TF2 consistently.

Having said that, I've returned to playing Counter-Strike because I found a good server with a good community. I plan on getting back into TF2, but it is lame as hell with the updates.

Re: GT TF2 Thread! "LAST ONE ALIVE SHUT THE DOOR!"

point of the achievements isnt to keep people from having the upgrades though.
for some people they like having to hunt those things down and having something to play for. others just like it to be open and just play the game.

more power to ya either way. that part doesnt really bother me as its pretty easy to unlock what you want to. i just dont bother for the classes i dont use. and i only play on 1 or 2 servers so dont care to find an achievement server.

there was a command to put in console that unlocked everything. many did that for the pyro update, but they patched that command shortly after.

the sandwich so far is the only one that seems worth using though. the krits on medic is sometimes useful, depending on who is using it. pyros alt is pretty much a downgrade now that they took out the bonus health. the added airburst on the default flame thrower is FAR FAR more useful than trying to get behind them.

as long as they keep releasing new maps with the updates, then the updates are great. the pay load gametype is my favorite. and thats all because of the updates. and im still hoping for engbat when the engy update comes out :D come onnnn engbat! :)

of course finding a good server with people that respect each other is key for any game. i cant stand anymore CS though, wish they'd just do the CS2 already. hehe

Well then this entire problem falls in the laps of Valve. It's not like Microsoft's business plan of charging for every major upgrade is anything new. Valve knew this when they started developing for the Xbox so they should get off their high horse and act like adults, IMO. A deal is a deal.

As for waiting until they can upgrade everything at once, I see you're point, but in the end I think the addition of ala carte upgrades would lend more to continued interest and waiting so long just frustrates your 360 players, as they look at every update for the PC version as a slap in their face. People will only wait so long, and I can tell you most 360 players I've talked to are not blaming Microsoft for this and are willing to thrown down some cash for added playability, if only for new maps.

As foor unbalanced games, well, have you ever played on the 360? Every game is unbalanced because 3/4 of the players outright SUCK. They can all play with the Sandvich all they like, I'll still brain `em with my wrench.

And ill still axe them some questions.

But I think Valve was waiting for at least half of the character updates to be done before they were going to put it on 360. But it will probably just be delayed some more.

But 360 seriously needs to get some better players. Sure its fun kicking ass, but I like a challenge every once in a while.

I thought you would like this:

Btw, how do these Valve guys make money? They sell The Orange Box for $15, L4D for a bit more, and they keep making expansion-like patches! And no monthly fees...

I dont think this will help with anything but you should all sign this petition to get the TF2 updates for the 360.
