Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
I got my pair polarized for $160 on eBay. Need some help?
Do you have a preferred lens size and colour, and frame colour? |

I went to the store the other day and decided on the gunmetal Persol 2244-S. Know where I can find the best price? |
Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
Gunmetal frame? Ok. Polarized or no? What coloured lens? Or are you just looking for the cheapest?
|
Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
Well, do I really need polarized? I'm basically buying these because I need them for my 30 minute drive to work that often faces directly into the sun.
I'm not sure on the lens color. |
Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
Alright. The colours are essentially dark green or dark brown. I would recommend dark brown for driving. I'll look for prices right now.
The cheapest I can find, cheaper than eBay, is $123. :) Polarized goes for around $150-$160. They don't have gunmetal + black in anything but polarized, but I say these are pretty good choices. http://www.framesdirect.com/Persol-2...-mdn-lani.html |

This post is for BaB because he wanted pictures.
Newest addition - Oakley Eyepatch. Yarr. I was in Sunglass Hut today with Typhoid and saw these, and they were SUPER cheap, so I broke down and bought them. (There goes the rest of my dividend. :D) The fact green wasn't normally available on the website, and the little pirate icon sold me right there. :D |
Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
I've been trying to find a pair of Ocelot-like sunglasses, to no avail.

Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
I could take a picture of my glasses, but the price of the picture would probably be worth more than the glasses.
Hint: They're the $3 - wait - less than $3 kind. |

So those are the sunglasses we've heard so much about! The glasses look nice, and they also look nice on you :)
Here's mine - I asked my dad to buy me a pair of Ray-Ban aviators on his recent trip to S. Korea. I forgot to add that I specifically didn't want the gold one. And unfortunately, I got the gold one. I think it looks a bit weird, but I've grown to like it. And I like the way it looks on my face. |

Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
Thanks. I'm still very content with them. (Because I had to buy them in such a rush, I was afraid I would regret it a bit.
And Bube, those are cool. Look good on you. :D |
Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
I replaced the gold ones. Even though I got positive comments on the pair, I just couldn't like the way they shone on my face. So I got a black pair. It's just a bit different than the gold one, but I think it's much much better.

Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
I'd have to see them in close-up. I really don't think those gold ones looked bad on you, but hey, it's your preference that matters. :D
I got my glasses customized. The arms were too long, the glasses slided down my nose. So they changed the arms (I think they melted them). But they're still not perfect, when I don't keep my head up, or when I'm sweaty, they slide down. Then the sun shines over the glasses, into my eyes. Also, they rest on a spot of my nose that's not very comfortable. Not on the bone, but on the cartilage. (Sorry if that was not very pretty English. Technical talks like that are always a bit hard in a second language.) |
Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
I just realized that I never posted a picture of me wearing my sunglasses. Here one is. They are Oakley Whiskers with polarized lenses.

This new one's a bit more tear-drop shaped, and doesn't look as good on my face as the other one (just a bit, imo) but the way it looks on me, as a package, is much better. |

So I went back to the store because my sunglasses slided down my nose. He bended the end of the arms a bit. I think he used a hair dryer or something similar to soften the arms a bit.
That wasn't enough so I came back a few weeks later to ask for the same thing. Then he bended them a bit too far... and one of the arms a bit outward. :( You can see it in the attached picture. The right arm sometimes doesn't even hook behind my ear! Now I'm trying to bend them in a better shape again. Does anyone have any tips? I tried holding the arms in hot water, to soften the material a bit. (I considered holding them close to a candle, but it's probably too hot.) Also, a friend bended the nose bridge a bit and I'm not too happy with that. It's not symmetric anymore. Can I safely bend it back? |
Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
That sucks. :( That's the main reason I stick with acetate-plastic sunglasses.
I would go back to the guy and see if you can get an exchange or something. I don't know if real Ray-Bans are supposed to bend like that because I've never owned metal ones worth more than $40. |
Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
Hm the salesman told/showed me that the arms are flexible and you can bend them... So I guess I'll just bend them in shape after I've heated them up a bit.
I tried googling. I thought that maybe there was an optimal bending temperature or something. :p No luck of course. |
Re: Post your sunglasses! (56k need not apply)
Ok, I bended the arms of my Ray-Ban into shape.
I stuck them in boiled water to heat and soften the metal a bit. That seemed to work pretty well. :) You heard it here first! |
