Re: Stem Cells At Work

I'm really not sure I stand for stem-cellls. I guess I'm for supporting life, but I'm against abortion.

Wait, a solution!

We could use the DNA from criminals for stem-cell reasearch. If they die, that's one less rapist in the world and someone else (or many) get a new chance at life. It's a win-win situation.

I dont know why people are against stem cells. Like, i can see it in a religious way, that some people are brought up to believe its unnatural and wrong.

Well, true, it is unnatural, so is making a test-tube baby, and they did that a number of years ago.

I say, if it helps out society, and if it gives more people a reason to live, its a good thing.

Or you can just accept the fact that you're different than everyone else...

Actually I'm all for cell stem research. So that one day I can use my army of clones to take over the world.

Bush limited some funding for stem cell research. Another reason why I'm not voting for him.

Re: Stem Cells At Work

If people looked at our modern society, they would see that god is dead, and that we play god so much nowadays using the argument, "we don't want to play god," is beyond dumb.

Stem Cell research could lead to cloning, but I doubt it will ever be used that way. However, genetically modifying your child is very plausible. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. If we could wipe out the bad genes.....like the ones that cause certain diseases, or drug addiction, we could make a pretty solid society. There have also been documented studies that show some people have been unaffected by the AIDS virus. If we could give that gene to everyone.......

I'm not very religious myself, and to me, stem cell research is an obvious thing to look into. The other thing to consider is: Even if we don't fund it or do it in the United States, it's going down in other locations around the world. Stem Cell research is beign done right now, so there's really no way to stop it. So why not just get over with this, and start researching and using it now?

Edit: And for all you religious people, what do you care? You're not the ones "going to hell" for doing it. I know religious people that don't use things like the birth control pill, and they don't judge the people that do. It's not their job. I also know religious people that do judge, and they are far beyond annoying.

Bush and company aren't against stem cell research.

They're against the source of most of the good stem cells -- aborted, dead fetuses.

They wouldn't ban stem cell research (or limit it or whatever) because it might, someday lead to cloning, when it has so many other obvious benefits that have nothing to do with cloning.

It's just about abortion. I wanted to get the facts straight because I still wonder how people can still be asking this question about stem cells.

It comes down to politics. Those that are against abortion cannot openly support stem cell research because it would be seen as a backdoor support of abortion through supporting research that uses aborted babies.

The pragmatist can see that the aborted phetus's are going to waste and could be used to better humanity regardless of one's moral stance on the argument, but the politician cannot be seen as being weak on such a hot button issue. So we have a stalemate.

Another reason why I am not a republican. (I really need to start a new poltical party called the "Pragmaticans")

Yes, to answer your question it could be used to make new internal organs. There is so much power in this that it's insane. Heart transplants, liver and kidney transplants. It all could be so easy.

Yeah that's awesome.
