Re: Ps2 phr33ks...
I will say that i will stand by my PS2 until the end. Not to say i hate any other console, i just prefer PS2. There is just more framiliarity in the buttons, and the controller setup is so easy, and again, not pickin on other systems here...Although it did feel like hugging a grizzly bear when i played on an XBOX controller..( penny-arcade)

Re: Ps2 phr33ks...
right... between PSX, PSone, PS2, and the PSP... the controller design is basically the same thing.
the xbox's controller (not to bash, but to point out) is just... way too big.... the gamecube's controller is just.... not user friendly... it doesn't have a easy layout... all the buttons are disorganized. Nintendo's best button layout was SNES, and the NES...and maybe the n64's controller... cuz I liked holding it in the middle sometimes... [edit] pay attention to the market and you'll see many family games for ps2... Ratchet and Clank Jak and Daxter Spyro DDRMAX-my mom plays occassionally for the work out. Sly Cooper just to name a few... |
Re: Ps2 phr33ks...
PSXCUBE... never mind...
I used to like the PS2 controller but then it just kept on slipping when I was playing with friends, the GC controller is nice and comfortable, but I agree with rasengan, the buttons are disorganized, but once you get used to it, you'll see why its a good controller, and I dont even want to get in the X-Box but I will anyway. The X-Box controller maybe big but you'll (eventually) get used to it, the smaller version is ok I guess. Let me ask you guys a question that rasengan and I have been arguing abou: Do you think that Sony took the idea for the controller from Nintendo? SNES controller setup was stolen from Nintendo, and was put into the PS controller. That why I think that Nintendo was forced to change their setup of the N64 controller. What do you guys think? |
Re: Ps2 phr33ks...
well... lemme present what I think of this....
the SNES has A B X Y then two shoulder buttons, R and L...and a one-part D pad... The original PS has... X, Box, Triangle, Square, 4 Shoulder buttons... it's a possibility that Sony may have been inspired to use shoulder buttons only because what else would you use your middle and index finger for.... its there and you can put more features in a game with a console with more buttons, and not hard to reach buttons too. But keep in mind NES was like the first console... a classic one, and it basically paved the way with controller design... So would it be fair to say Xbox stole the design of their controller from a mix of PS and Nintendo with Analog like Sony controllers, Shoulder buttons like Nintendo, black and white to serve as the Z button for Nintendo and such? All controllers have their own distinctive layout and it's not fair to say anyone stole from Nintendo because Nintendo was the first console probably all of us bought... Playstation's original controller also had grip stems on the right and left, the original SNES was a rounded rectangle... |

its not what you think. thats a fact man. Its not a secret, the Playstation was going to be a CD addon for the SNES, hence the controller design, when nintendo and sony broke on the idea. Sony kept the basic layout and added to it. (VERY smart on thier part) nintendo wasnt forced to change anything. |
Re: Ps2 phr33ks...
i didnt know that... so sony started out as a partner company helping nintendo, then just broke it off and decided to make money off their little technological venture....
heh... coolio's I didn't know that... |

i think it was nintendo that actually broke the partnership, they thought it would be a bad idea to make an addon, plus didnt like CD's as a format. So instead of just moping, sony picked up what they had and finished it off to make its own console out of it. |
Re: Ps2 phr33ks...
The thing isnt who made the controlers and who made them first. Its the layout and the convienience of the controllers.
Like the origional XBOX controllers...well, they sucked ass..but the smaller ones are way better, and a little more orgonized. I think Nintendo is just trying to be different with their controller styles. like the N64 had that 3-pronged controller thing, which was surprisingly comfortable to hold, and then the GC ones, well, IMO they are just too strange... And i think the reason why the XBOX contollers were so big at first is because they were mainly supposed to be for older people (not kids, obviously), or maybe it was a ploy to make people buy extra controllers and spend more money when the smaller ones came out. EDIT: ya...Nintendo made their biggest threat...Sony.... |

Thats retarted...why would they ( microsoft) think that a bigger system is better? It just takes up more space and collects more dust.. |

Re: Ps2 phr33ks...
Sony took the "basic" design from Nintendo and also borrowed the joystick idea from Nintendo:p
But hey, that comment there wasn't fanboyish at all. I was just cracking a harmless joke. |
Re: Ps2 phr33ks...
it was already established that the Playstation was intended to be an add-on for the SNES... but it was broken off and so Sony kept the idea and went with it.
Now whose to say the Gamecube isn't copying SONY's Dual Analog setup? Now the gamecube has a joystick on the left and the yellow analog on the right...and we all know SONY came out with the dual analog's first......... so...... did Nintendo copy SONY? I wouldn't say they did, but the way your saying SONY copied Nintendo... it might be fair to say Nintendo copied SONY too............it goes both ways. So basically the two companies have borrowed from each other........ it doesn't really matter...... it's just button setups [edit] now that I look at it... ![]() Thats an exact replica of a PS2 Dual Analog controller, with the GameCube's Dpad and Joystick switched around so it don't look the same.... and the button setup just scrambled. It almost LOOKS exactly like the PS2 controller...... LOL....whatever..............I'm just saying..... I hope I don't stir up mixed emotions... |
